Hi all
I am new to this game and playing turn 264 as the Terrain Alliance.
When everytihng happens to go fine, Drengin Empire pops out and declare war, their super powerful ships begin killing all of my fleet, starbases and resources with ships I haven´t even built.(Their power is 1950 against 335 mine...)
I managed to ally to other faction and they also declared war against Drengins but these keep on destroying me.
This is the third game I set up but those alliens are really hard to beat.
Any help will be great !!!
You've probably lost. What difficulty are you on?
Of course, more is needed to know what you're doing wrong: what is your strategy during the colony rush? how do you design your ships? what is your tech plan? how do you specialize your planets? how many of what starbases do you put where? what kind of garrisons do you maintain?
The Drengin are focused on military and getting those ships out there. It causes them to have relative weaknesses in economy and research. To deal with them you will have to better use your economic management to either build bigger fleets or better weapons/defense. At advanced levels you can deal with ship roles, but right now you should be focused on gaining an edge in numbers or tech. It is possible for them to have a higher faction power than you because of sheer ship numbers and you have a capability of producing lots of smaller better equipped ships. The Drengin are mean bad news, but you can usually find some sort of edge to have over them. Watch out for the Arceans, as well. I think they are actually worse.
For those who are wanting to offer more specific advice you will definitely need to supply more specific information. So many of the parameters change the game so differently that it is hard to generalize without being vague. There are principles like having a tech edge, but they are better illustrated by examples more directly related to a game in progress or something.
Welcome to the game. You made it to turn 264 without getting wiped out. That's better than some people manage. It's better than I manage some times. But then again, that does depend a lot on the different parameters in each individual game.
Thanks for the quick answers.
I am playing Galaxy Gigantic and Type Random.
Opponents are : Drengin,Yor,Altarians and Iridium
Everything else on custom settings because I am learning the game,I also didn´t build any ship.
First turns enabled manufacturing focus and then turned to research, now manufacturing slider is 80% militar and social 20%
I have all victory conditions enabled and 47% of influence victory, then 16% of conquest vic and 16% of technology vict.Could build several small ships but useless against Drengins.
Also using durantium, antimatter, prometion, thulium and approval relic.
I stopped the game because I believe am a few turns away from defeat and don`t want to begin a new one without a proper guide, this is my second game and in the previous one reached turn 160 before those Drengins destroyed my systems.Of course I could play without that faction enabled but there must be a way to overcome this.....
Hmm, maybe some more questions:
how many colonies do you have? (how many do the Drengin have? if they are ready to negotiate peace you can see this in the diplomatic trade screen below the ship and starbase section)
How much population do you have on your colonies? How does your total population compare to theirs? (you can switch the minimap to various graphs or go to the timeline section in the "govern" menu)
Have ypu watched your diplomatic relations before the drengin declared war, could you have known it was coming? (well I guess the last one comes with a little experience, the biggest pointer would be the "you are ripe for conquest ---" status in the relation description or simply the military graph).
Most important question you didn't answer: what difficulty?
I'd recommend a smaller map with more AI to start out. They'll all be pissed at eachother for a very long time and give you a chance to get set up before they can actually do anything to you.
Don't ever put the military slider at 80%. It's the early game, you've got nothing but empty planets and you need to fill them with crap that you cannot afford to rush buy.
None of the strategic resources give you anything for holding them. Are you USING them for anything? Since you say you aren't designing your own ships, don't bother trying to get them as they are useless otherwise.
I think it's important to clear up a misconception you have: that drengin are strong. They are not. They are honestly one of the weak AI, along with the thalan. You're being taken in by their military power, when that's their shtick. Tons of good ships is their whole thing - you won't be beating them that way until you get very good at the game. Don't let your path to victory be dictated by AI: decide how you will win, and go do it. You might go for war, but you could also buy someone off to fight them, pump influence and flip everything, turtle and out-tech everybody, or take your ball and go home with all those ascension crystals.
Difficulty : normal
I am allied to Altarians, so we are supposed to support each other.
I know their main hability is military power, but they were hostile from the first turns and then they declared war, then I have no option and must defend.
I decided how to win,but the AI throwed me these pesty alliens and my strategic plan was suddenly changed
Lower the difficulty so you can learn the game systems at a more manageable pace.
Not designing ships is breaking your own legs. From the descriptions of your tech level, you are also teching up extremely slowly. Turn 264 should be "I built a few larges", certainly not "I could build some smalls...". If you don't built large fleets AND you fail to tech up you're toast.
My two cents stardock has a user guide read it. Steam also has guides. You should start at the easiest level and work your way up. Remember as far as planets the more the merrier. I would recommend abundant. You could use at least two shipyards as soon as possible. Turn your homewold into an all factory planet. Coersion is bad avoid it in the production screen. Custom build ships that is really what the game is made around it will help you beat the dregiñ. Altarians are the weakest while the Ionians are the strongest. You should try to Allie with them instead. If you are going to collect resources use them either while building on planets or to make ships.
OK then I ll start a new game taking all this in to consideration, thanks again.
Something i didn't know about coercion you can overcome it with ecenomic starbases or enough approval something like five starbases per planet.
iTs very simple. Diplomacy, Dipomacy, Diplomacy.
1. Always talk to them and assure them of your mutual friendship.
2. Discover Diplomacy Researches fast.
3. Give them gifts of credits or researches.
4. Give them tribute of credits.
Do this until you have the military might to stand up to them. Then destroy them.
Eventually you will get ahead in research and ships and can blow them out of the water.
ALWAYS Research fast. Having more research is worth more than ships, because you can build a ship with 10x their weapons and armor quicker.
Remember, AI is "stuck" building stock ships at their current research level. You can ALWAYS make ships to counter thiers (I.e they use lasers, build ships with shields)
You are a food species. Act like it.
