Guys.
I have really tried to love this game. The concept and the game design are superb.
But the programming is so incredibly, titanically incompetent beyond description that I cannot stand it any more. The program eating away tons and tons of RAM so as to make the whole PC unsresponsive for minutes. The program eating resources even when it has been exited (but the process is still in the task list and eating RAM almost half an hour later). Crashes. Cheating AI (in 2016 - I am writing this at the same time as a non-cheating AI is beating the world's best human go player three times, possibly five times in a row!).
Guys, really. GalCiv 3 boils down to: "Cool ideas, horribly badly executed".
And after ten months of it being out and several patches (we are at version 1.6something, after all), you guys still couldn't fix it. So you never will.
Get yourself better programmers or educate those you have for a few years.
How much memory does your computer have? Insane maps with 100 players will eat 12-13 GB memory. This is a 64 bit game which opens up the amount of memory it can use and it does.
This is a bug that was fixed since about 1.3, however, has crept back in as of 1.61. I suggest instead of being part of the problem you think of ways to be part of the solution, create a support ticket with ways that you have seen this happen, such as what game settings/how long playing and how exited the game. This will help them reproduce the issue so when you exit the game the game actually ends.
Here you do have a great point. After 10 months I too wish several of the more severe bugs would have been squished. However, just like everything else some things take time, although I believe 10 months is more than enough myself. I do though still believe they will get squished and continue to do my part to report everything I'm seeing in attempt to help them locate and destroy them.
Remember, just like any company it's not always an issue with one certain person or group. Asking them that they find a solution to be able to fix the issues at hand instead of calling them incompetent just tunes them out and no reason to listen to you anymore. Try talking to them while expressing concerns versus trash talking them. After all when communicating to any company your frustrations talking calmly but, still expressing your points always gets further than yelling, screaming, swearing, kicking and screaming, that they just do the minimum to get you out of their face and move on with their daily business.
I don't have a huge amount of functional memory in this computer. Clicking on options/graphics and then turning off things like enable Gel UI and enable bloom helped to greatly reduce these memory freeze up issues.
I always wondered, what is Gel UI?
Personally I have a big issue with useless Sentry button.
I only can suspect the intent behind the useless Sentry Button is to encourage the human players to wipe out the AIs so he won't have to deal with worthless reports anymore.
"Hassabis says DeepMind’s system works pretty well on a single computer equipped with a decent number of GPU chips, but for the match against Fan Hui, the researchers used a larger network of computers that spanned about 170 GPU cards and 1,200 standard processors, or CPUs.
Last I looked, I have one quad core CPU and one 2GB video card. I doubt Stardock (or any average Joe) has the resources or manpower to have the same setup strictly dedicated to AI programming. They're one of those evil corporate entities that make computer entertainment products for money, which they then hopefully turn into selfish, greedy profit so they can turn around and make more computer entertainment for us. And, unlike Google, they didn't post $17.7 billion in revenue in 2015.
So, there's that.
Oh, if ONLY Stardock had the monies, capital, research budget and time that Google have to make such an AI possible in a 4X game. If ONLY Brad Wardell made the salary of Google CEO Sundar Pichai. The yachts, the drugs, the call girls...the GAMES...!
*sigh*
