I no longer see it on the roadmap given news of the expansion. Planetary invasion/defenses still feels pretty broken. Is there still some update planned for this? Is there going to be an invasion UI?
Also, where's me bloody Terror Stars!
+1 I've been completely surprised this happened yet. This was mentioned leading up to the release that this wouldn't be ready for release but would be shortly there after. Now we're approaching the first expansion yet no invasion information.
As was stated in this podcast: http://explorminate.net/2015/12/16/strategic-expanse-interview-with-brad-wardell-2/
It won't be arriving until the first "full blown" expansion that will end up being a standalone.
Straight from Brad's mouth. Can't say I agree with the decision, though.
But, we're *getting* the first full blown expansion. Mercenaries. In Feb.
That said, I don't see word of the invasion update in it's feature list. And it's off the roadmap.
In the interview Wardell stated that due to the way some people responded to the planetary wheel changes they are not gun shy about making major overhauls to existing systems in the base game. As a result they have decided that invasion won't get a look in until a standalone expansion that is probably coming in 2017, which would explain why it is no longer on the roadmap for vanilla GC3.
There is something of a curse of being as open about their development plans as Stardock tends to be, in that roadmaps can and do change. It takes quite a bit of resources to implement a new feature, and sometimes there are second thoughts in strategic planning. Have you ever started planning to conquer a rival civ in game, only to check things out, realize you are too far behind them technologically or find another civ that's a better choice for some reason to consquer? Plans change.
There you go you damn wheel whiners. You've made everything worse for all of us.
Nope, Mercenaries is an add on expansion. The "full blown" is the stand alone due next year
Are people expecting tactical combat with invasions or something I don't think it will ever happen not sure I'd want it personally (more micromanagement) so I think Stardock were right to delay doing anything to it when there are areas of the game that have more serious issues/need lots of attention.
Planetary invasions work (the pop bug was fixed) other than to add flashy graphics and maybe some tool tips it's fine imo, defenses could be increased with a tiny bit of xml tweaks if someone was so inclined.
This. I knew the backlash was detrimental to the game and its direction.
What I find interesting is the Stand Alone will 'fundamentally change' the very game we play. Invasions/Production/Research and the number of hexes you can move are all going to go drastically down in all likelihood. I for one cannot wait for all this change to happen!
Its a stand alone so you can either buy it and change your game or not and keep your game the way it currently is. Oddly I have not seen a way for anyone who has a dlc/expansion to not play with one. Can we play without DLC that we own?
You can uncheck dlc in your steam library if you don't want to use it. That will probably include the Expand-alones.
I don't think it's fair to blame people who objected to the wheel change. Everyone should be encouraged to provide honest feedback. If you have a problem with how Stardock responds to that feedback, that's on Stardock, not on the forum posters.
I would love a system which is not over in 1 turn, both sides could send troops until the attacker claims all the tiles, or the defender clears all the attacking troops.
You can hate me for saying this, but to me it makes more sense to wait until at least another year before looking at this game again. So for know uninstall and lets wait to see what will happen in a year.
