So I had the largest empire surrender to me. Fantastic, I now have all their terrible ships and all their terrible planets. So I start going through each planet, setting them to automated governor mode as I dont need the planets which involves a fun bit of clicking per each planet, one by one. Then I have a trillion ships to worry about, many of them tiny and small. I go through the Govern section and try setting all the ships to move to a singular world so I can then begin decommissioning them all in groups because apparently there isnt a way to do it in bulk (yay!). But apparently that is not enough, as even though all the ships have move orders and a destination the game still wants me to give the ships orders (why?). At this point about 45 minutes have gone by of doing nothing but CLEANUP when bam, the game crashes to desktop. Le sigh. So, lesson learned here, dont play with the faction surrender option on as it will just introduce nothing but grief in the long term.
And I am still baffled why (unless its somewhere and I havent noticed) there is no option to mass assign planets a specific task and no option to mass decommission. And why cant an Economy governor for example be smart enough to realize that said planet wasnt build as an economy world and should be auto-rebuilt without the players input? Having to manually scrap 5-15 buildings PER WORLD just to let the governor do its job is just silly when you have many dozens of worlds.
I agree with your points and would add, "Why no way to do a mass update for ships?".
I'm on the edge of abandoning my current game because I the next time I research a tech I'll have to run constructors to fifty starbases... such fun.
Ah yes, the good ol constructor spam. I actually managed to greatly alleviate that issue by making a small mod myself that doubles a starbases range and removes exclusivity on modules. So I can build 1 starbase that covers a whole system and provides mining/economy/military etc . Makes starbases significantly more enjoyable, though why it requires a mod to remove the base games tedium (you wants to build 3-4 starbases per system??) and hasnt already been addressed after these many months is baffling. I did read somewhere about a future redesign of starbases so hopefully it will get fixed properly, one day...
One thing I do like from Distant Worlds is the way you can take ships and 'retire' them and get random tech bonuses in various trees. When pirate factions or ships are captured, Ill go through the Military ships listing and retire every ship that is not one of my designs.
Granted the two games are very far apart they are both Space 4x games. GCIII is in beautiful 3d while DW is very low tech 2D.
I ALWAYS disable surrender ever since it became available. The AI surrender for the stupidest reasons.
Yes by all means play without the idiocy that is surrender!!
Perhaps we can have an option to send ships to a shipyard and instead of fortifying it you can choose an option to scrap them. Although that will require yet another click to decide between the two options.
(you wouldn't want to build another orbital building called scrapyard to avoid the click -- would you?)
There's nothing more frustrating than having that one or those two obsolete designs in all of your fleets. So you decide to replace them. Go to the control menu and order all of those ships to a rally point for decommissioning or selling to your neighbours. Bu 'lo and behold, unlike in GalCiv2 here the ships wont automatically leave their fleets when you order the entire class. And since I'm whining, why the hell cant I see anywhere how many of each type of ship I got?
Once, I had a lot of tiny ships build before and that I do not want.
Instead of searching them and decommisionning one by one, I "sold" them to a minor faction.
I did not got a lot of money for them, but it was easy to spot them (they had a specific name) and it was just one click to offert them to the minor faction.
I assume it would work for ships coming from a faction that surrender to me.
Sorry for my English, I'm not a native speaker.
