The Altarians are upset.
The asked me to destroy 'Capro 1 Starbase immediately', which of course I did not.
When I went to the Starbases tab I could not find this Starbase. It was not alphabetical. It was not able to be listed by any regular means. It could have be 'Generic Starbase without a name but She was pretty clear it was 'Capro 1'
If you are going to have the AI request me to destroy something please SPLIT the screen (so I can see where it is), or some means for me the player to figure out where this Starbase is. On insane maps I have 100's of Starbases and this may or may not have been a mining one I could have given up. As it is now, I have NO idea where it is, what it is or if any ships are stationed in it (which of course go away if I destroy it).
Just need to be able to make a choice with more information.
Thanks
Given some of the past errors in these messages, are you sure Capro 1 was actually your starbase, and not someone else's?
Anyway, I heartily concur with your request.
I agree.
"Go to" button, a map, clear indications of what value the starbase has, would be very nice.
More information. You could have most of the details available in a single line, in different coloured text, with simple map coordinates, if you like.
For an advanced race in space, its awfully clear we don't know what's going on.
Yeah, there are a few pieces of long-hanging quality-of-life fruit that could be reaped by Stardock without (hopefully) too much time:
#1) We need the ability to rename things, especially Planets and Starbases
In Civ4, one of the ways I would keep track of what cities needed was by tacking on (X) to the front. Where X might be "E" for economy, "P" for production, "R" for research or some other thing. That means I have to have the ability to rename the thing when needed. Because a particular planet might be "E" at the start, or maybe I put an asterisk on it because I need to come back to it in a few turns.
For starbases, it would make it easier as I could put "(E)" prefix on Economy starbases, or change their name to better reflect where they are. Or whether they need upgrades or are maxed out.
(Ideally we'd be able to apply custom tags to every entity like starbases / planets, then filter by tag.)
#2) The text input dialogs (descriptions / names) do not support basic keys like Ctrl-A (select all) or Shift-Home or Shift-End.
#3) All lists (ships, planets, starbases) should have a text filter box at the top of the list so that we can quickly filter down to just "colony" ships or planets named "XYZ". Or in the case of the original poster, filter down to just the starbase that the alien race is upset about.
You can. I've done it multiple times. The only thing you can't rename are stars.
What we need are easier ways to see selected planets and bases on the map! I cannot remember how many times I have clicked on the planet list to see the location of my planet, only to have the map center on a cluster of planets with no way to easily tell which one is the planet that I am looking for. Frustrating.
Hmmm, I will have to click around in the colony management screens and starbase management screens again then. Because left-clicking on the name field at the top of the screen did nothing.
We need the ability to post notes on our map.
In the Planet screen, click the Govern Planet button. There will be a Rename Planet button there.
Hell yes!
Especially because a lot of pretty static objects like star bases and shipyards disappear in the fog of war.
