I have two questions to ask about the mid game of galactic civilisation 3
1: what research do you need to follow to allow the building of bigger and stronger battleships playing as the human I always end up with little ships with a lot of beam technology but do little damage against my opponents in mid game.
and
2: What do you need to do to have lots of money in the mid game of galactic civilisation 3? I always end up broke.
There is really no other way then take a closer look to the 2 of the 4 branches of the research tree for getting bigger ship hulls and develop the economy for more wealth.
You can start with the engineering tree for constructing 3 ship hulls (small, medium and large). The communication branch is where you money you can earn with commerce facilities on the planets and prepare a trade ship with a cargo module and use starbases for trading. Putting some starbases to form a economic ring around a planet and get a starbase market on the starbase.Trade license for a trade route to set up.. and wealthy population + xeno economics as technology to research for generating wealth.
wrong button..
I added here strategy information i collected from @marigoldran, here a colony rush building and more .. the information is repeating itself bij adding more and more info.

START A NEW GAME. IF YOU BUILD A FACTORY OR ANYTHING ON YOUR PLANET YOU HAVE OVER COMPLICATED THINGS. RUSH BUY SHIPYARDS WITH COLONIZER ON ALL OF YOUR NEWLY COLONIZED PLANETS. FOLLOW THESE DIRECTIONS: 1. FROM TURN 1, SET ECONOMIC SLIDER TO MILITARY 100% AND PRODUCTION 100%. BUILD COLONY SHIPS FOR COLONIZING (30 turns). YOUR COLONY SHIPS SHOULD BE SENT IN RANDOM DIRECTIONS (TOWARDS STARS). IF YOU SEE A COLONIZABLE WORLD, COLONIZE IT AND PUT A SHIPYARD THERE TO BUILD MORE COLONY SHIPS. IF YOU ARE RESEARCHING ANYTHING OR IF YOUR PLANETS ARE TRYING TO BUILD BUILDINGS, YOU'VE MESSED UP THIS STEP. GO TO STEP 2. 2. BUILD CONSTRUCTORS FOR CONSTRUCTING ECONOMIC STARBASES (1 CONSTRURCTOR PER STARBASE. 3-4 ECONOMIC RING STARBASES PER PLANET. IN OTHER WORDS, EVERY SHIPYARD SHOULD BUILD 3-4 CONSTRUCTORS FOR THE CREATION OF 3-4 ECONOMIC STARBASES AROUND EACH PLANET). ONCE EVERY PLANET IS LIKE THAT, GO TO STEP 3. 3. TURN SLIDER TO RESEARCH TO 100% AND GET LARGE HULLS AND BEAM WEAPONS ASAP. GO TO STEP 4 4. TURN SLIDER TO PRODUCTION MILITARY AND BUILD BEAM BASED BATTLESHIPS NON-STOP FROM SHIPYARDS. PUT 3 OF EVERY BATTLESHIP YOU BUILD INTO A FLEET. GO TO STEP 5 5. SEND FLEETS AROUND THE MAP AND DESTROY EVERYTHING AND ANYTHING THE AI HAS IN SPACE FOCUSING ON AI SHIPYARDS AND STARBASES. THEN WIPE OUT THEIR REMAINING SHIPS. 6. DO NOTHING ELSE. IF YOU BUILD A FACTORY, BUILD ANYTHING ON YOUR PLANET, IMPROVE A STARBASE, OR VIOLATE THESE DIRECTIONS IN ANY WAY YOU HAVE OVER-COMPLICATED THINGS AND PLAYED THE GAME WRONG ON NORMAL. Start a new game and follow directions. These directions are provided to be AI-proof. As in even an AI could follow these steps and win. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Oh yeah, one other thing: You start with 5000 money. Starting from turn 1, RUSH BUY COLONY SHIPS FROM EVERY SHIPYARD UNTIL YOUR MONEY GOES UNDER 500. THIS WILL DRAMATICALLY SPEED THINGS UP. FOR IDEOLOGY, GRAB ALL BENEVOLENCE (THE RESEARCH LINE AT THE BOTTOM). GET NO OTHER IDEOLOGIES UNTIL YOU HAVE GOTTEN THAT RESEARCH LINE OF BENEVOLENCE FILLED. THIS STEP WILL ALSO SPEED THINGS UP LATER. IF YOU ACCIDENTALLY START RESEARCHING, SET ALL OF YOUR RESEARCH TO GET LARGE HULLS IN ENGINEERING ASAP. FOLLOWED BY BEAM WEAPONS. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Oh yeah, if you run out of money, the game will automatically set your economic slider to all wealth. When that happens, just turn the slider back to whatever state it should be in on the next -----------------------------------------------------------------------------turn The instructions were clear: you start the game with Colonizer(trait) and probably Patriotic (trait), which allows players to rush shipyards on newly colonized planets. Consequently you don't need to waste 50 turns building a shipyard. And yes, you should be exploring with your colony ships BY HAND. If you aren't going to follow instructions then there's no point in explaining anything more to you. Best of luck in your game and in your life. Janhardo, 3% of x is 8. What is the value of x as a fraction and as a decimal? In order to understand this game, you need to first understand the concept of percents and fractions and be able to get at least a 500 score on the math section of the SAT. If you did not master basic math, you cannot master this game. This game relies heavily on the concept of percents and decimals. If you do not know what those things are, then I would advise playing Mario Kart instead. That game does not require an intuitive grasp of fractions and percents. On the other hand, if you're willing to learn math through gaming, I am more than happy to try and teach it to you. BUT YOU MUST FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS, DO YOU UNDERSTAND? EDIT: I'm not calling you stupid. In fact I believe you're ABOVE average American intelligence. There are people who are BELOW average intelligence and I'm quite confident you're NOT one of them. See? This means you're smarter than most of the people around you. I really do believe that and I'm not just saying that to make you feel better about yourself. Ok, that's promising. 1. START A NEW GAME AND CHOOSE A CUSTOM RACE. CHOOSE THE SUPER TRAITS COLONIZER AND PATRIOTIC. SELECT THE NORMAL TRAITS FAST +2 AND MILITARY PRODUCTION +20%. Ok? U MUST SELECT COLONIZER. THE STRATEGY DOES NOT WORK IF YOU DO NOT CHOOSE COLONIZER. ONCE AGAIN, YOU MUST SELECT COLONIZER OTHERWISE YOU ARE A BIG GIANT DOOFUS. 2. Gigantic or huge maps is fine. Change planet and star system settings to abundant/abundant/abundant. Normal number of AIs. 3. That's it. Now just build colony ships. Every time you colonize a planet, rush buy a SHIPYARD with your COLONIZER trait. IF YOU ARE SPENDING 30 TURNS BUILDING A SHIPYARD, YOU HAVE MESSED UP. START A NEW GAME AND GET COLONIZER TRAIT. Unless it's been patched the Colonizer trait SHOULD let you build a shipyard for free in ONE TURN on your colonies. 4. For ideology, CHOOSE THE RESEARCH LINE OF BENEVOLENCE. If you have any questions, ask. IF YOU HAVE NOT COLONIZED 30 COLONIES BY TURN 30, YOU HAVE FAILED AND YOU ARE DOING SOMETHING WRONG. We can talk about percentages and economic management later. YOUR HOMEWORK IS TO FIGURE OUT A WAY TO GET 30 COLONIES BY TURN 30. Key is getting Interstellar Specialization 2 (less mass for colony modules) and Dense +2 as a trait. This lets you put colony modules on tiny hulls. Rush buying a tiny hull with a colony module costs 110 credits. Rush buying a support hull with a colony module costs a lot more. Also, don't forget the constructor trick. Pragmatic Level 1 gives you 3 free constructors. Quickly colonize a planet outside of your home system, and choose Pragmatic +3 Constructors. Upgrade Constructors to colony ships, move them to your planets to load up on population, and send them out to colonize.

The larger hulls are available though the engineering tree (oh btw if you are using the default research screen, switch to the tech tree, that way you can see where everything is and what you have to research to get it.) Weapons are in the military tree. It is usually good to specialize in a weapon, at least initially. Even if the AI is building the proper defense, going deep into one weapon line will let you overwhelm their defenses. Missiles are long range and great if you can wipe out ships in the first or second volley, but lose effectiveness as the fight goes on due to low rate of fire. Lasers are versatile: medium range, medium rate of fire, and very accurate, but the AI tends to research shields first so I tend to avoid them. I personally like kenetics. They are short range and have the lowest accuracy, but high rate of fire means that they usually come out on top if is a battle of any length, also the AI almost never researches them early, which means you can research them and trade for beam and missile techs once your opponents start building armor.
This is a much bigger problem then it used to be, but there are three basic things you need to do:
1) Get tourism: This is a nice passive flow of cash just for controlling territory.
2) Create economy worlds: It is good to have at least one world devoted exclusively to making money. In 1.3 specialized worlds are still heavily favored. building a world with a large cluster of markets will go a long way.
3) Trade: make sure you are always using all of your trade licenses. Make sure that all your routes come from the same world, and that world is economy focused with a trade capital and trade center. Send your routes to the furthest worlds that make the most money, and don't send them to civs you think you might end up at war with soon.
Also: Don't sweat your economy too much, especially early. If you expand faster then your economy can support, that's probably a good thing. If you go negative, you will be forced to devote your whole economy to credits until you go positive, then it will automatically switch you back to your previous settings. It may set you back a little on manufacturing and research, but it should be fine as long as your are building toward a sustainable economy.
