Greetings!
The Founder's program will be coming to a close in the coming weeks so this seemed like a good time to get the gang here together for introductions.
Please tell us a bit about yourself, what you want Ashes to be like and some other games you enjoy playing.
Thanks!
As for me:
I'm Brad Wardell. I'm the lead designer of Ashes of the Singularity. I am looking for an RTS that has massive scale (so that I feel like I'm fighting a world war) that isn't about actions per minute. My favorite games of all time include Total Annihilation, Sins of a Solar Empire, Civilization series, Starcraft and Star Control.
I'm Eric, husband and father and a computer security guy. My RTS experience started with the original C&C (or did the first Starcraft come first?) then played many of the Age of games. I played SupCom 1, playing some co-op and versus matches with friends. I dipped into ranked in SupCom 2, but I wasn't good and didn't want to devote the time needed to get good. I want Ashes to be a game that I enjoy playing with and against friends, with a variety of different strategies that work at the casual level. I loved the complexity of Forged Alliance, but I know for a fact that high complexity turned some of my friends off from that game. Honestly, I guess I'm just waiting to see how Ashes turns out and then I'll try to sell my friends on it If I think I'll like it.
I'm Mackey, A yard supervisor at a lumber yard. I am basically looking for the same things that Frogboy mentioned in AotS, but with some sort of intimacy attached to your army through customization, which should generally lead to a victory assuming proper strategy and play style was attached to that customization. The first RTS game I played was Red Alert on the PS1 '98. My favorite RTS/RTT are World in Conflict, followed by Sins of a Solar Empire & Supreme Commander FA and then Warhammer 40k DOW1&2 series, War Game series and C&C Generals. But I also enjoy Arcade/sim racing games and The Armored Core series. I am not a fan of 1v1 anymore, but still love team based casual play or co-op when it comes to playing with others. However with a family it is hard to find the time.
I'm Bruno, retired. I'm quietly and happily stepping out of life. Games, internet and travels make it so easy.I was never so in the multiplayer probably because I'm too slow to be a competition to anyone. I've always loved the strategy games since the time of board game. The computerization of games brought the possibility to play at all times and the realization that the game is actually happening in the player's brain not on the table, the screen or even the competition. I've been sticking with the civ series since civ I. I've played warcraft and starcraft , TA , diablo too. a few total war game and more recently I've had spent a bit of time following the PA devellopment. I'll quietly and happily follow the develloppement of Ashes.
I'm Tony, a middleware engineer. I've enjoyed RTS games since i was a little kid. My first RTS was Starcraft and it was introduced by my dad's friend who told me this:
"Son, this type of game is way too hard for you at this age"
...and that's how i stepped slowly into the "forbidden" zone of strategy games.
I've played ever sincer dozens of RTS games. My first love was C&C generals and after that one, Warcraft, SupCom and many more.
I would love AOTS to be game the game i've been waiting for. The one that makes you play 8 hours like Sins of a Solar Empire without getting bored...with constant fighting here and there, with poking, retreating and backfiring.
P.S: And the superweapons!...anyone? No...? Come on! We all love them and want them...hopefully. Please
I'm Brody, a full-time C++ developer working with Unreal Engine 4 to create real-time simulations. My interests are networked physics, game AI, and software design/architecture. I've also been getting some experience with usability/UX by osmosis at work RTS games are awesome - I enjoy having to think (and are more of a fan of these types - ya know, SupCom, Wargame, etc, rather than crazy high-APM games like Starcraft). For the same reason, I'm into ArmA!
My hopes for AotS are for it to be as interesting and awesome to play with friends (against each other and AI) for hours and hours per match, like I used to at LAN parties with SupCom. Would be so nice to fight on the crazy scale that's been mentioned so far.And in my heart, I so badly want there to be a competent mod API and AI API - Starcraft still has AI competitions to this day due to its API. I'd love to be able to write my own AI for AotS, mods that add to the UI + automation systems that work to my desire, extending functionality, etc.
Hello I'm Dany. I'm a some Kind of an entrepreneur guy. i have and work in different Businesses. My hobby Started with the First Atari then moved to computers. Learned to play a lot with Macromedia Products, 3D Studio max, and Maya Back then.
My first RTS games were called Dune 1 & Dune 2. after Came C&C and Warcraft. I still Remember when the First C&C came out around 1995, it was the most Epic movie kind of RTS game i ever played in my life. Then after C&C I think it was around 1997 Cavedog came out to Life with TA, that was a Revolution to RTS games, felt in love with TA. Right now the Kind of RTS game that i like are C&C kind and not Warcraft Kind. I played all Warcraft Games because of the Stories but never Got into the multiplayer part of them, because of the so much Micro in Warcraft games, i am more of a Macro player than Micro.
I have played and tried many RTS games out there, and like many of them. I prefer the ones that have a great Single player Story, then move on to a few multiplayer games. I was a Pro MP player Twice in my life. (C&C Red Alert and C&C Generals) I will love to get more into Multiplayer games but i just don't have the time anymore.
I see AOTS as a new Revolution to RTS games. I hope for it to be, I will be here supporting it as much as possible.Thank you.

I don't remember what my first RTS was but Total Annihilation was the most influential, and is a longtime favorite (just wish that the guys over at TA universe could figure out how to get it working on Windows 8.x/10 with their new patch). Of course I played StarCraft, and before that Warcraft I and II, but the massive scale which TA allowed, and the huge modding community (I even made some units for myself with hacked together models and scripts) always seemed more fun. Warcraft II did have a lot of personality though. Supreme Commander did a lot of things right, such as the grand scale of the world, units, and weapon ranges; but I was a bit annoyed with the behavior that the units would show (though scripts were available that allowed this to be fixed; just needed a bit more oomph in my PC).
Other RTS I enjoyed in their day were include Machines (1999), Command & Conquer series, Fragile Allegiance, Age of Empires series, Dark Reign, KKnD2, Homeworld series, Warzone 2100, Ground Control, Metal Fatigue (2000). I also enjoy the hybrid turn-based/real-time Total War series. More recently I enjoyed Sins of a Solar Empire, and was a Kickstarter backer for Planetary Annihilation (as well as a few other games which are not in the RTS category).
What do I want Ashes to be like? I have not played the alpha (due to what I think is a technical glitch in the system which hands out codes, I sent in an email about that to support) so I don’t have a good feel for the existing gameplay. Why I decided to back this was because of the “meta-unit” idea. I really like the idea of smart units working together in an intelligent way. It bothered me in Supreme Commander when the enemy scout aircraft would flying in and take the first barrage of anti-aircraft fire (even if it would have been taken out by a tiny fraction of it), and then the attack aircraft close and fire while the surface to air missiles are reloading. However someone else was also bothered and made a reduced-overkill and re-target script for the SAM so that they would behave more like you would expect of future tech missiles (if you have read about how some missiles [such as the SS-N-19 Shipwreck] work, you would expect that future missiles could work together too)…
Anyway the idea that I can put my units in some sort of task force, and it will behave intelligently is very appealing. Like if the group has lots of artillery it will not close with the enemy and will try and keep its tanks (or whatever the equivalent is) forwards to intercept enemy tanks that do make it close. Or if I have some anti-aircraft units mixed in with tanks they will stay near the tanks to provide cover, but not rush into the forefront where they would get decimated by units who out-armor and out-gun them.
Also big scale sounds good. Planetary Annihilation can run with thousands of units moving about all at once, and from what I have heard Ashes of the Singularity plans to take advantage of the GPU for some stuff that normally would have to be run on the CPU, so maybe we can have even larger amounts of units fighting at once.
Note: I tend not to play competitively, I more like to skirmish with the AI, and when possible get a bunch of friends over, to curb stomp the best AIs we can find. (or in the case of some AIs, when I am rusty, they curb stomp us).
Hi there, I'm Areeb. I'm currently studying a combined degree of International Studies (Asian Studies and International Relations) and Communications (Public Relations) in Australia.
I have always gravitated to games which require an immense reliance on strategy and tactics regardless of the genre, from RTS to even FPS. My first ever RTS I played was Age of Mythology and afterwards I got into C&C and finally into my favourite game Sins of a Solar Empire. I have loved Tom Clancy's FTP game Ghost Recon Phantoms as the only FPS game I ever liked, since it had a very tactical frame of mind to play. I see Ashes of the Singularity as a formidable RTS game which might reinvigorate and perhaps even change/create a new form of RTS, and I would do everything I am able to support Stardock and the effort they are making to try and enhance the game even further. I honestly can't wait until they introduce the new races. What I would like to see improved is a more strategic and tactical element of the game to be implemented something akin to Sins of a Solar Empire, however I understand that DLC's and Expansions would be the more lucrative way to go on that, but I trust that the developers have the right sense of balance to not alienate the gaming community than has been seen by other developers. What am I saying, it's Stardock, I trust you guys to make the right calls.Anyway, I hope I can provide feedback which will create this game into a more refined gem than it currently is. So keep up the good work and all the best!

What i expect to AOTS .
Call me Kazz.
I've been gaming on PCs since just before DOS.
I've been in IT-related fields and consulting since that time. My wife says that currently I'm retired. But there's one youngster in the house and my wife travels a lot so the 24x7x365 support gigs I had are over and her travel is erratic and often short-notice. So, I guess I'm something close to a Mr. Mom!
As I've pointed out in some of my early posts, I'm LOUSY at RTS games (among others). But it's a way to get some of my friends to hang out, game, and chat that won't happen otherwise. Certain games and types of games do that and RTS' are one. I'm just hoping to understand and know the game well enough to hold my own once they have their copies and join in!
Any pre-conceived notions I have about RTS games and what they should or shouldn't be aren't deeply rooted. So I'm hitting this with an open mind - at least as open as an old fart's mind can be!
