I've been playing GC3 for about two weeks now. Its always been rather slow loading, and scrolling. Did a lot of googling, disabled AV, but the disk read is 80-100% according to task manager. So that's the culprit of my slow downs and i hope they get fixed. My second problem is what i stated in the title. When viewing the diplomacy screen, after an alliance treaty, some of the worlds were missing, view jpg . Then i clicked the 'Show All' options and it didn't get any better. The 2nd bug and third problem is the in-game designer, click 'New Design' and there's no cube or whatever to build off of or anything in the left pane. I am also typing this now because for some reason my turn button stayed a faded 'wait' button, even though i could select planet, build things, select ships, etc. Bug/Problem 4

The disk slow down i thought i fixed turning off AV, but Task manager i finally caught showing GC3 using HDD 2.2mb/s, more than any other app. So i hope that gets fixed soon. My settings were: custom race, med galaxy, i think 6 other races at start, minors abundant?.
And my system specs
CPU: i5-3570k stock
4(2x2GB) corsair ram
GTX 560 1GB
40" emerson 1080p TV/Monitor
Windows 8.1
It sounds like you are hitting the swap file hard, see how it does with a smaller map size, you are at the minimum 4 gigs ram & only at 2/3rds the recommended, I've got 8 gigs, and the very idea that knowing my computer is forced to hit the swap on inane galaxies makes me giddy considering how many years ago that I built it (the answer is almost 8 years ago..)
yea i thought of that as a possibility, but my RAM usuage was only at about 1.3 GB for the game and another 1.5gb or so for everything else. So still had about 1gb left to play with. Ugh and not to mention i couldn't imagine playing on smaller than Med Galaxies. I like a decently long game. I have roughly 12 hrs in this one as we're just half way through the "Age of War" and I'm the strongest followed by the Krynn. BTW this is the second game I've played where they became the other powerhouse, wonder if there's something to it. I'm assuming I'll have this med galaxy skirmish wrapped up in another 8 hrs at the most.
I wonder if Small galaxy but habitable planets+sun systems maxed out would run any better than my Abundant med galaxy. interesting thing to test here soon.
If it does galciv4globaldefs.xml has a
<DefaultTileMoveCost>1</DefaultTileMoveCost> <MinTileMoveCost>0.1</MinTileMoveCost>
you could jack that up a bit and edit shiphullstatdefs.xml so they all have at least that many moves and can do so giving you the effect of a larger universe even if it's smaller
You could also just decrease the amount of stars in the maps to ultra-low values. In MapSizeDefs.xml simply change the value of <Base> for all map-sizes. For example, divide them by 5 and the maps "shift" downwards in amount of stuff while still keeping their size in hexes, which should reduce the work load of the game significantly while still giving you the feel of bigger maps.
meh thanks but a big map that's emptier isn't my cup of tea. i like a galaxy with about 9-14 hexes between habitable systems at most.
Thanks for the post about this. I'll make note of it.
