Hi all,
i know IconPackager 5 does not support Win10.
But did anybody try if it works anyway?
Thx
Do not try it on Windows 10. It is not supported and might cause issues with restoring icons.
I had IconPackager installed when I upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. HUGE MISTAKE that I wish I had known about beforehand. Now most of my icons are replaced by a shield looking thing. I have been able to restore some of the default Windows icons, but all of the other icons are the shield thing.
I am frantically looking for a fix to this since I do not want to re-install Windows 10 and see if 'starting from scratch' will fix this problem.
Does anyone know if there is a way to fix this problem that does not involve a re-install?
Thank you.
so is there a fix for this? I have tried a few things and a good chunk of my stock icons are trash.
Ditto.
It looks as if posting here is a waste of time. I have been waiting to no avail. I have pretty much come to the conclusion that I will either have to reformat the computer or wait to see if there is an update to IconPackager to make it Win10 friendly...
Sorry to hear you're experiencing this problem.

i found that this worked for me just be careful changing your registry. This should be a sticky I bet a lot of people are having this issue when the upgrade to 10.

This blank icons bug/issue, despite being a well known problem for MANY YEARS (I'm sure Stardock is very much well aware of it), still hasn't been fixed.
I have no idea why IconPackager uses a IconHandler sub-key for exe files, since it doesn't even change the icons for those, but the fact that it does and that it doesn't remove it on uninstall has caused countless grief for many (me included).
Me included not because I use IconPackager but because, as the developer of the Winstep Nexus dock, users blame Nexus for this issue more often than not: 'Oh Nexus is showing blank icons? What a buggy application! Uninstall!'. I even have an entry on the Nexus FAQ for this issue (but who bothers reading FAQs?)
I'm seriously thinking of taking the matter into my own hands, automatically detecting the problem when Nexus runs for the first time and offering the user a fix (clearly pointing the finger at the REAL culprit). Come on, guys!
Stardock knows I usually don't meddle in this kind of stuff, but this has been a real annoyance to me because of users thinking the blank icons problem is a bug in the Winstep applications themselves.
Perhaps Stardock should hand over the sources of all the abandoned apps to JCRabbit.

This worked...
Go to 'Start' open run command, type in Regedit. In the new window of Registry Editor go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shellex and delete the subkey/folder 'IconHandler'
On NO planet in the known universe should an end user have to do registry changes manually to uninstall an application to avoid their system being borked.
NONE.
On NO planet in the known universe should an end user have to do registry changes manually to uninstall an application to avoid their system being borked.NONE.
In a stardock free world no, but here on planet earth this is how its done for windows 8.1 & 10.
For those of you who don't want goofy shield icons all over the place after attempting to use icon packager you need to remove this key which icon packager creates yet fails to uninstall.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\shell icons
Once you delete it, restart and icons are back to normal.

My Stardock and Wincustomize subscriptions are up for renewal. I was using Window Blinds and Icon Packager everyday. Is there an ETA in the updates for Window Blinds and Icon Packager for Windows 10?
I need to know whether or not to renew subscriptions.
Thanks so much!

I'm in the same position. I've tried to uninstall Icon Packager but then I havethe "missing shell" problem and I have to recover using Acronis. I just leave it installed now but I can't use it; I get the 'not for this operating system' error message. Not much help I know.
I havn't tried this resolution:
