The frequency of Mega Events is set under "Game Settings" when you start a new game.
Example Events:
Gold Rush: Strange subspace wave has been opening space-time rifts and dropping extremely valuable artifacts across the galaxy.
Land Rush: A mysterious explosion has created a shockwave that has converted several previously dead worlds into habitable planets.
Wormholes: Survey teams are reporting a vast increase in the number of wormholes in the galaxy.
Anomalies: Survey teams are reporting there has been a sudden spike in the number of Anomalies being found.

Distant Resources: A breakthrough in deep space scanning has been made. As a result, we are now able to detect previously unknown nodes of Antimatter and Elerium.
Tech Breakthrough: Independent researchers have a new technology and are sharing it with entire the galaxy.
Pirate Colony: Pirates have started their own colony on a barren planet.
Added 3D printing support to GalCiv3. You may export your ship designs locally or export their ship directly to a 3D printing service (Sculpteo - http://www.sculpteo.com/en/).
AI Improvements
AI will now decommission defenders if it has too many and it wants to make room for better model defenders.
Ship designs were upgrading too often for the AI because the AI was constantly changing its mind on which defense type it wanted.
Fixing an issue where preset ship blueprints were only using point defense.
AI will build better ships to defend their planets with "best defense" system
AI will rebuild AI fleets to optimize logistics

If you have a ship with animations can you set the state of the animations for the print?
Eg I would like to print my Shaman (AKA the umbrella spy/sensor ship) in its unfurled state.
The Shaman in its unfurled state.
The Shaman but completely closed.
WoW, Derek you were reading my mind!
Thanks for the notes and tell everyone at the office you all are AWESOME SAUCE!
Looking forward to the smarter AI and mega events. Cautiously optimistic.
Cool! I look forward to this. Is it being made available on Steam today?
Awesome thanks Stardock!!!
Cool Beans cant wait to try it out!
Available now as an opt-in. Instructions on opt-in is at top of changelog.
MMmm Has not updated ??
The Opt-in is not working on Steam
Same here. I'll wait...
Has it as listed as available, but it's not downloading for me either. I keep trying to opt out and then opt back into to trigger it, but I gets nothing.
Same here. Able to select it and show it as active but nothing downloads.
EDIT: I also tried to verify the integrity of the game cache files after opting in hoping that it would activate the download of the appropriate files but it did not.Tried to opt back in and closed and restarted Steam and it still will not update. Good luck getting Steam to help you figure it out as I'm looking forward to trying this one out.
Ever since I opt-ed in via password for the initial closed 1.1 opt-in, I don't think I've been able to get any opt-in patch that wasn't a hotfix. Is anyone else in the same boat as I am, or is this just a case where lots of people aren't able to get 1.2 opt-in?
Same thing here it shows have 1.2 as opt in but nothing downloads and says ver 1.1 on main screen.
Have undone opt in and closed steam and reclicked opt in and then closed steam and when restart steam shows opt in on game listing but nada still just ver 1.1 on main screen ingame.
Hmm now that you mention it BuckGodot I also did the one via password when it was a closed opt in as well.
Same here!
Guys,
take a look at When you can't update (to a Beta of) a steam installed game
This looks to have done it. So it probably was that Closed Beta. Annoying.
And thank you, of course.
Yes, thank you!
Also, what is this new visual effect the notes speak of? I gaze at them and yet..
I'm not entierly positive, as I haven't been paying close attention to the Designs Folder, but it looks like the Founders Ship Designs DLC might, MIGHT, have been updated.
At the very least there are files in the Desgins folder that have the phrase FounderModel that have a Date Modified of yesterday.
EDITED::: Nope. Looks like these are tied to the "Register the Game" 'free' DLC.
This is all nice, but mostly unnecessary.. I mean events and printing stuff is nice... but I started playing the day it was released and followed the forum a lot and a LOT of people, among other things, are asking for one thing: improve the GUI and management. What is it so hard in doing that? for example make the lists on the right (planet, ships, starbases etc) better? like, I dont, know, be able to unite ships in fleet so you dont have a list 300 ships long, or maybe have basic SORTING possbilities in the list, or at least sort planets by name! (I know it is possible under "Govern" but the list on the right is way faster to use..)
Thanks that worked like a charm !
3-D printing, what a cool idea! I'll never use it, but the concept is neat.
I'll also chime-in, though, that basic improvements (e.g. missing UI conveniences) should be a higher priority that will help vastly more players.
Still, neat idea there.
I wouldn't worry too much about the 3D-feature messing up priorities. It probably was something that they could implement with a little effort or that already had some basic building blocks there, and since it "sounds cool" you may as well add it as a cherry topping for advertisement value...
The main thing about v1.2 are the AI improvements and bug fixes. Plus the new parameters and options used in their implementation (and the event stuff) and thus available for new modding possibilities.
Sure, I want the UI improvements, too, and it's an important part as well, but AFAIK it is coming as they are also working on UI stuff that should reduce micro-management. See the last dev stream if you missed it.
So, waiting for v1.3, or next DLC, or expansion pack, whichever is coming out first.
Though, I do hope they caught all the good technical UI improvement suggestions from this forum. Maybe we ought to have compiled a list?
The question is, why havent they yet. UI improvements are the most requested improvement and they present us 3d Printing... sound like troll, especially considering that most of the UI improvements requested are really really really easy to implement.
I already made a list (as have other persons), but they did not care.
Brad mentioned in another thread the 1.3 update should include UI improvements. Please see reply #6: https://forums.galciv3.com/469771/page/1/#3578543
