Here are some EXAMPLES of some of the events:

Peacekeepers A large force of time travelling robots appear and declare that they have been sent back to stop the conflicts that endanger the future.

Space Monsters - Distant relatives to the Living ships of the Dread Lords, begin to appear in the galaxy again. They will continue to spread until exterminated.

I'm not entirely sure why this conversation has become so rough, but please remain civil while discussing the topic at hand.
All this dlc is all well and good but it doesn't fix the issues with the game. Why the heck should I give you more money when you have done a poor job of getting the patches done? How long has it been since we asked for the option to disable or tweak surrenders? Instead you give us a dlc of potentially game destroying events instead of just making the game better. It's like oh btw you know how we've been ignoring you well we think we deserve some more money. I won't be spending another penny until you fix what you've made let alone adding to it.
We've had plenty of patches and they're coming out at a decent rate. I don't think we can really complain on that score. Though some of the priorities for patches have been a bit... odd, and there's been a few outright blunders committed during efforts to improve balance, but in general post-release support has been plentiful and the game is already much better than it was at release.
I thought the mega events were free. Now you have to pay for it? You Devs are getting greedy and losing once long-term fans. Sorry, this is pure greed and you haven`t even fixed the game yet.
Shame on you.
In my POV they did one big mistake with this DLC - calling it "Mega Events DLC". Some different name would be more appropriate. Like "Galactic Events" or "Cosmic Events". You know what - i would be even more happy with "Sh*t That Suddenly Happened DLC". Less confusion with in-patch included mega events and less complaining.
IMHO only.
Ten are free; five are DLC. The DLC also contains art assets for the Dreadlords.
The problem with this DLC is, that the game itself without some flavour is quite boring and buggy. Example(s)?
"This site is protected by pirates, do you want to engage?" ENGAGE WITH WHAT SHIP/FLEET? WHERE? HOW MANY PIRATES?
Or you build a galactic wonder. Woooo, I made it! If I would only knew about it. There is NO feedback, it's like building your 30th factory.
Or invasions. You don't know why you won or lose, you see nothing, it's just a summary screen.
There are major slow downs for many users, even if you meet the recommended requirements.
a.s.o.
And now a patch whewre you can export your designs to some website, and you can put your ship design on your desk if you pay them some money. Yes, that's what you really need in this game at this point. And the new mega events are all boring as hell, but not the ones you can pay for. These are quite interesting. Tricky!
I can understand why some people are angry.
Besides that: Steam says on the DLC page my language is not supported. Is my game now on english if I pay? Can I play? Is it a language mix? I don't know.
Just gonna leave this here.

Sorry I really don't have a problem with this when you bought the original game did it mention Dread-lord mega events? Or Mega events at all, no it didn't. So they added Mega events for free but then want to charge for some extra mega events in particular those that include lots of art assets like dreadlord ship parts. Your complaint is that they should give you those for free as well even though they weren't part of the product you bought as advertised.
You my friend have a very great sense of entitlement, most games don't give you any free extra content in patches after they launch just bug fixes. Your complaint is that they aren't giving you all extra content free.
Of course as a founder I got it all for free anyway but that's part of why being a founder even though it cost me extra in the long term is a good deal and why I was willing to pay so much up front for a game still in Alpha.
No the Mega Events system has been implemented in a patch for free along with a number of Mega Events (additional content stardock are giving you for nothing).
The Mega Events DLC is actually a bunch of additional Mega Events that are somewhat more substantial than the free ones , (and dreadlord ship parts) for which they wish to charge people less than the price of a happy meal. This has caused much rage in some quarters and cries of shame from those like yourself who believe all additional content should be free to everyone or that $5 is more than this DLC is worth (in which case don't buy it guys).
Um, yes they were. They said mega events were going to be patched in long before the game launched. So they are part of the product they advertised.
Then when they were building the mega events, they picked the most interesting ones and ripped them out of the base game and repackaged them as DLC.
No it isn't. My complaint is that they took content they promised would be free and started charging for it.
So basically, "Fuck you, got mine"?
(The bold italics are mine) I would like you to point me in the direction of where is was stated this would be the case. I've never seen anything written about specific mega events being promised for free in a future patch. Please show me so I don't feel you're just blowing smoke up our collective butts. THanks.
Before I lock this thread, I want to point out a few things:
As others have mentioned but it may not be that easy to understand for people not familiar with game development, what makes GalCiv III such a big deal is that it's a brand-new 64-bit strategy game engine. This isn't some 32-bit Unity game (no offense to Unity we use it and love it!). What it means is that we have no real limitations on where we go. Our design isn't limited based on someone else's engine and this engine is brand new.
The reason GalCiv II stopped at Twilight of the Arnor wasn't because there wasn't demand for more expansions. It was because it was as far as we could go with a 32-bit DirectX 9 engine. We literally could not jam in anymore into the game. That is the same reason why we haven't done any more Sins of a Solar Empire expansions. Everyone knows people want more expansions but Irconlad just can't jam anything else into the Iron engine. By contrast, GalCiv III is on a brand-new engine and the full team is budgeted to work on it for the next few years.
