There was some kind of game update that downloaded today and I can no longer delete factions. If you unsubscribe they are deleted but I have several that I need to delete that the originator has taken off of the workshop and I can not unsubscribe. If I go to my files and delete them from faction Steam re-installs them. Is there some way to stop Steam from restoring the files?
I have turned off anything I can find about cloud in Steam properties. This is driving me nuts. Anyone else having a problem? BTW the delete function also does not work for any factions, even those that have nothing to do with steam workshop.

You may have to go in and manually delete the workshop files.
Look here:
Windows(C:)/Steam/steamapps/workshop/content/(some numbered folders)
In that content folder will be some numerical folders ("466309364" or "465897654" and so on). Open those folders and check the contents. If you see the name of the factions you downloaded (or ship templates, etc.), try and delete the faction folder from here.
Haven't tried it so don't know if it works though I have used a similar method in other Steam games.
Thanks P-DEX, that worked. I am a control freak when it comes to my computer, and this was driving me crazy.
Try un-checking this option, to see if Steam re-installs those factions after doing so.

No that does not work. The solution posted by P-DEX is the only way I have found to get rid of the factions in question. The delete selection no longer works at all for any in game faction, even those made by you and not D/L to the workshop. If the unwanted faction was subscribed in the workshop just un-subscribe and it is gone. My problem was that the factions I wanted to delete had been removed from the workshop, so I could not unsubscribe. This would probably be a rare occurrence, but if it happens, deleting from your My Docs faction files and from the Steam workshop files, will remove them.
I am not sure what is going on with the delete function not working in 1.1 any more. I assume yesterday's patch has something to do with it. If you are just deleting a personal race creation that has not been sent to the workshop, deleting from your docs file is not that hard, but I'll bet that if delete isn't fixed for the formal release of 1.1, some people will be unhappy.
Glad it worked, Franco.
I recently deleted some of my custom factions on the Workshop because I read that they were not displaying properly. I'll upload them again after I have troubleshot them. Apologies if this caused any issues.
Not a problem P-Dex, I look forward to seeing them again.
I certainly can't say that I appreciate my criticism of Star Dock's documentation efforts being censored, however I am still interested to know the updates added to v1.1 between June 17 (date of the link you referenced me to) and July 9. There were 2-3 additional updates, none of which have been documented. Will the final v1.1 changelog be updated?
Censorship issues aside, I am no longer having problems with deleting factions after updrading to Final v1.1 (no optin anymore). I can fully delete them by deleting the faction in the New Game - Choose Cilivization screen. I verified that also once doing this, I am no longer subscribed to that faction in Steam Workshop. I am assuming the correction was made with the final v1.1 released today. Without documentation however, we'll never know.
It is still showing opt-in for me, but the delete function is working now and the workshop activity has picked up a lot. If it has gone to final release I can't see it.
I thought you had deleted the post, but I guess the point they were making is that the 1.1 opt in was advertised as sketchy and perhaps subject to unannounced fixes. I would certainly assume they will announce the final release, if it has not been done yet.
1.1 "is" final. Its being advertised for the public on steam. Everyone is upgrading to it (or has the ability without an opt-in). After I got the final v1.1 update patch (final opt-in equals final v1.1), I finally had the ability to disable the opt-in in the properties-beta tab. Opt-in was still there besides the game name, until I 'launched' the game. After quitting, I checked, and opt-in is gone. AND, if I go to the beta tab, there is no opt-in avail. I'm on final v1.1, as you probably are yourself - you just need to disable the opt-in in the beta tab.
