It's a bit dumb that colony capital placement is always random. Quite often I would prefer to be able to place it manually for the optimized tile usage.
*EDIT*
I've just devised a quick simple mod as a crutch solution for the problem: you can now destroy your colony capital and rebuild it as any other improvement on any tile you wish with minimal production cost (will always take just 1 turn). Unfortunately mod won't work if you're loading old saves, but in a new game everything works like a charm.
How to install:
1. Download it
2. Unpack into your mod folder (My_Documents/My_Games/GalCiv3/Mods)
3. Make sure 'Enable mods' is checked in game's options menu
Current version has a bug that allows you to build surplus colony capitals on other planets once you destroy it somewhere, I'm looking into fixing it.
As the game gets updated, I will also keep track and update my 'mod' to the latest version.
It is the most often requested thing for GalCiv III.
Yep everyone asks for this. The Colony is almost always is a bad position.
I would love this!
In that case let's hope Stardock listens to people with this. It's most likely an easy feature to implement. Remember how spy placement screen worked in GC2? This one can be done in the same way I think.
The issue is that at start up the planet and map are randomly generated. Personally I prefer a bit of randomness. You tend to get the colony in a crappy area which is ok as not all planets need to be 'perfect'.
Bumping this thread since I've updated the post and added the 'mod' to solve this colony capital placement problem for now.
WOW had a hard time finding it again!! Thanks! 4 the mod!
I understand people wanting this, but I have come to appreciate the randomness and the varying puzzle that comes from the placement of capitol and trade goods. I'm glad it is available as a mod. I would prefer it not be the default, though.
I agree it should be a mod or a option to or not to.
