Just finished all thew way through with my first mod and the last planet was named JMSTY. Here's a screenshot.

BBeing all in caps, I had to woindwer if it stood for something. For example, the JMS could be someones initials, and the TY be 'Thank You'. Maybe, 'J. Michael Straczynski, Thank You'? Not sating it IS, just that it COULD. Which would make this victory epic, considering what the mod I created is. Here's a screenshot of the faction and it's home star system.
gThe race is the Minbari, based in the Chi Draconis system, a binary star syetm, and the planet Minbar (still working on getting three mons to orbit the planet). It's based on the Babylon 5 'verse, which J. Michael Straczynski created. And I had no CLUE the planet was there, btw.
So, short story long, if it was a deliberate tip-of-the-hat to JMS, rock on! ^m^
If it was an accident, I'm still gonna go with epic in it's own right. Great game, Stardock and EVERYONE who's had a hand in this masterpiece!
Considering that a lot of us fans got in on the Elite Founder deal which includes the right to name a star it may be a fan name. But the coincidence is nice.
As with all great art, the interpretation is open to the viewer. I think we founders came up with great names! I don't care what anybody else thinks!!
I'm glad you got a kick out of it. I think that is the best thing to do with some of these names. I come up with quick little flashes of stories of settlers who named their system out of some pique or sentiment or really strange reason. GalCiv leaves a lot of space in its lore for you to put in bits of your own if you want to. The star names list is just one tiny part of that. And one tiny part of that is mine, but I'm NOT telling which one.
Aw heck, I wouldn't really want to know which part's yours. It'd take away from that whole I-love-x-name-you-know-who-you-are thang.
Came across another little gem this morning. 'Wishupona Starbase' ... ha! I hope they keep these names (at least SOME) when the finished product is released.
Good on you, Founders, Coders and fellow sci-fi geeks!
Hey B5 fan where is your minbari Sharlin Class Cruiser screenshot?
Working on it. Code ain't right somewhere yet.
I saw a planet named Katie Jensen or Jenkins or something, sounds like a high school crush
Oh yhe topic still lives? I bet Zathras is still working on that cruiser while Zathras is refining the mod.
This is why star name mods will be so popular. Breen-alpha-beta-gamma-delta. Five versions of each name is perfect.
I just found a couple of stars whose names honor famous science fiction authors: Jack Vance and (Terry) Pratchett. Very appropriate. Looking through StarNamesText.xml I also see Asimov and Clarke (but no Zelazny, there should be a Zelazny).

Good to see someone's found the star I named.
I know I should have picked a more staunch name but couldn't be bothered thinking of one at the time. And, of course, once you've submitted something and can't get it back again, it's like "Oh, crap, why didn't I think of Soundgardenitus/Shihadiorious/some other better, more Space Emporer Killin' Shit quality name then?
In fairness a lot of real world things get named weirdly: Farewell Spit, Accident, Boring, Dull, Killmacow...California probably met a few "WTF?" reactions: it's named after a fictional location in an adventure novel.
