Another poster reminded me recently that GCII had a list that included un-colonized on the left of the screen. I recall the list but I didn't find it helpful and therefore didn't look at it much. The new system of sending constructors got me thinking that a way to queue colony ships would be a great feature. This is particularly true when playing the new excessive, gigantic and insane maps with abundant settings. There are many ways this could be implemented. One way (probably not the best way)would be to include discovered, un-colonized planets on the go to list.
Yeah, we could use rally points but I am not a big fan of rally points as they work now.
Another little feature that I find myself wishing for is the ability to scroll through the shipyards like we can on the planet screens. It would also be helpful to have a button on the planet screen that would take you to the shipyard servicing that planet.
Little things like this are a sure sign that the game is coming along well. I have really enjoyed playing B5 and since the patch, I am not having any serious bug problems, although I am still not being warned about the pirates. It doesn't matter because I always say go anyway. If my HP are too low I take the ship out of action until the HP are over 50%.
I have been very lucky with GCIII. I haven't had a CTDT is several weeks.
Yeah, it's pretty vital, IMO on large maps. Being able to quicky and easily find the best uncolonized planets and then fire off ships at them was a godsend for my playstyle. Even better was having a list of planets held by other factions. It let me find who held what where very quickly. Made it eaiser to plan which planets I should prioritze when it came to sending.... friends to meet them.
Oh man, I would love this. MoO3 had a similar feature and I used it like mad. Personally, I think the list should be limited to discovered planets and allow you to filter by bonuses, class, etc. This would make it MUCH easier to manage the flood of colony ships that I start at turn 30-50. When you have 15-20 heading towards new worlds, things can get a bit confusing.
In another vein, I'd like a UI toggle option to turn on ship pathing. This would allow you to quickly see where all your ships (esp colony ships!) are going and whether you've missed any planets on the screen. It can be difficult to remember where you're sending ships when you have 10 of various types in a loose group all going to slightly different locations. Hair has been pulled.
MoO3, yes, that was what I was remembering! Thanks!
And I second your idea that it should be limited to discovered and filterable/sortable by class, bonus, type (to filter out extreme) etc.
I love having a list of discovered planets that are unowned. Sort by size or bonus then send a colony to the next one on the list.
*cough*
Great post btw
Yep, that was you Ed
One feature I liked about the GC2 planet list was all of the ways the list could be sorted. There were a few ways I used more than others, but I think I used at least half of the sort options regularly.
FWIW the comparable lists in GC II were in fact restricted to planets one had discovered.
True. I forgot about that. It was very useful that it was presented that way. It made choosing a planet for a colony ship easier.
