New forums for Servo! I'll take the plunge.
A little bit about me, I'm a husband and father who has enjoyed strategy games for many years. My first exposure to real-time strategy games was the Rise of Rome Expansion for Age of Empires and I continue to follow the series as well as the works of Ensemble Studios veterans to this day. I'm a computer geek and enjoy tinkering with new apps and operating systems as well as unofficially being tech support for all of my friends and family. I'm a mechanical engineer by profession. I'm excited for Servo and look forward to joining the founder's program within the next few days.
Congrats, you had the first post! And welcome.
I'm Graham, I work at BonusXP - the developers working on Servo. I'm the Community Manager and I also do a bit of game design work as well.
Previously I have worked at Ensemble Studios on the Age of Empires franchise and Halo Wars. I've also worked at Relic Entertainment and Big Huge Games.
Second! Glad to have supported you guys. It sounds pretty promising! Plus, anything Stardock is good in my book, so the fact that SD is supporting you means that *I* support you.
Been gaming for a jillion years and am the founder of eXplorminate.com, a 4X-centric game site. I go by DevildogFF everywhere else!
Excited by this game and its potential. Plus $20 is a steal!
Optimistically hyped for this! Still playing AoM regularly to this day. I really hope this game will be good, become decently popular and the community will be listened to for opinions on certain things.
Good luck!
I'm not really sure where to ask this question, because the forums are still very new and not really divided up into that many sections.
What I'd like to know is whether or not the designers of Servo are serious about releasing this game with the cartoonish graphics shown in the screenshots and the game trailer video.
I realize that the game is still in pre-alpha development, and a lot can change between now and release date. But if this train is headed down a track with a final stop being Servoland decorated with childish graphics and animations that are more suited for phones and tablets rather than PCs used by serious gamers, then please clarify that for me so that I can get off at the next stop.
As an avid PC gamer, hardcore IT guy, and a long-time Stardock supporter, I'm always up for a new RTS game, especially one that hooks me from the get-go. But based on what I'm seeing right now, I can't see myself getting the least bit excited about Servo.
Probably a new topic would have been the best idea for this question/concern, but I'll throw in a response anyway:
Art is subjective so we all may disagree on what the game looks like or is going to look like, but here goes. I'm surprised to hear the word cartoonish used to describe the art in the game, I definitely don't think any of our artists would use that word to describe the artistic vision for the game. Cartoonish or childish, no. The game is being built for the PC/Mac , not for phones or tablets. It's being made for people that play PC RTS games, not for Clash of Clans or Candy Crush fans.
We fully agree, we've got LOTS of work ahead of us in terms of art, animations, and FX - hell a few weeks ago we had grey boxes for some things in the game and far fewer animations and almost no FX - those were jammed in for GDC and the video/screenshots. We really are pre-alpha and concentrating on iterating on the game to make something truly fun at its core. Until we are happy with that, playtesting and iteration are going to trump art.
I don't know if that addresses your concerns/questions, please feel free to start a new topic if you'd like to discuss further.
Now back to your regularly scheduled introductions...
Nice to see, that the RTS genre is going to get some new and promising candidates.
Myself plays RTS since the genre is alive, guess Dune 2 and Warcraft were the first ones I had my hands on!
A bit disappointed by GreyGoo, the latest RTS game to be mentioned, I´m looking forward to "Act of Aggression" next, which will catch up on classic hits like C&C Generals - or the game for Eugen System itselfs: Act of War, which was a great RTS!
I stay tuned with Servo - looks promising....
excited about this ... I was heavily addicted to age of kings in college ....now I am a husband and father but still need a little competitive video game fix. Lately I have been involved with ww2 aviation games but that old rts map based itch is back...this looks AWESOME. My only request , please allow an option to browse the forum in a more generic "classic" looking mode so that it is more discreet while at work

Hehehe, welcome timos. I don't know if Stardock's forums support a "boss" button like those old PC games did, might be a good feature request.
Hello! I'm Josh. For my day job, I flip burgers at a McDonald's and play a bit of video games in my free time. I've always kind of sucked at RTS' but enjoy playing them. I grew up playing AoE 2 & 3 and a little Empire Earth.
I like the art style of this game. Reminds me of Supreme Commander 2's art style in a way.
Hay, My names Tom, I work in a school and enjoy wide range of rts games. started playing command and conquer red alert on ps1 when i was 6-7 and got hooked, been disappointed by grey goo, etherium and the later of command and conquer last good rts would be supreme commander 2 and play loads of mods for cnc generals. also looking forward to act of aggression greatly
Love playing this game and watching what it grows into if this is just its start cant wait to see new weapons, pilots and mech types. Brings back the feelings of earth siege customize a war mech and filling the hole in my heart left by cromehounds good work guys and see you all in game.
Hey, I'm Jamie. I'm a UI/UX Designer and a massive RTS gamer. I've played everything for Age of Mythology to most of the Total War Games and everything inbetween. I liked the idea of Servo when I heard it in the SD news, and for an Alpha it is highly entertaining so far.
I'm also a father and a husband, so like others my time is restricted! Though if anyone is up for adding me on Steam and playing some Multiplayer sometime please feel free to do so: (Please ignore the SteamID, its an old, old, account!) - Undead1bunny
I'm looking forward to where the game is going! So keep doing what you're doing guys!
Welcome, glad you guys are enjoying the game. Undead1bunny sounds somewhat familiar, maybe from the Age of Mythology days?
Hi, I'm Andy. I'm a software developer by day and a game developer by night.
I bought Servo right away because it looked like Metal Fatigue. Pretty much the only reason.
Hello! My name is Logan, I am a college student and AoE 3 is easily my favorite RTS. I havent been gaming on the pc much as of late but I am looking forward to watching this game develop and become something I can hold in the same regard as Age 3. So far I am enjoying the game, the servos are very fun and the loot system already has me hooked, albeit earning credits is a bit slow. I obsess over the tiny details and the numbers behind games (I am pursuing a math degree), and I have no doubt this game will keep me interested for a long time.
Hi all, My name is Joseph. I've been a long time gamer and cut my teeth on the ZX Spectrum. My first experience of RTS was Mega lo mania and I've been hooked ever since and played nearly all the seminal games from then on. Ive got a lot of favourite games from the genre too many to list (just typed and deleted 17). From what I have been able to play of Servo its a good idea and reminds me of the old Mechcommander games (that I loved). I know I haven't got many parts yet but I would love to see more variety in Servo designs.
It may be! The amount of time I spend on AoM was borderline incredible! aha It was easily my favourite game growing up, well between that and Populous!
