I have an Auto-Save 3 turns prior however I can't seem to stop the game from hanging on turn 182 and every reload on the save after this hang crashes the game.
Galaxy is an Immense, all AI's are Genius and one of each race is represented.
I have both save games and a Stardock Support Tool export ready to be provided.
I know the version is 0.70, however I don't know where to find the exact version of my game. Current date is January 24th.
Current version of the game is found in the bottom right corner of your screen when you start the game, in the main menu. This may be related to other posts.
My version literally only says 0.70 = / hmm Maybe I need to log out and let it update. Only mentioning that because I noticed someone else mention a 0.70.5.0 in their version.
Have another hang at T208, same situation, different race, all other races involved again, Immense map, Godlike AI this time. Passive playstyle for the most part by myself, using influence and money--not idea what the AI's have been doing to be honest.
Again I have a save either one to three turns prior to the immediate load-in and crash, but the game always freezes at T208 no matter what I do now.
= /
Same with mine, and it only went up to 0.70 two days ago. So where are people getting these other version numbers? Could they be mods? I am sure the devs don't want to be debugging mods at this point in the Beta.
If it hangs, use the Windows Task Manager to "Create dump file", move the dump file to a "dropbox" like facility, open a ticket, and share the link to the dump file in the text of the ticket.
Turn hang bugs here; both of them were I believe in the 100s. The (Turn) button grays into (Wait) and the game is otherwise just like I'd never pressed it. I can control my units, change production queues, etc.
Edit: I noticed we have a tilde console input and I'd really like to try a command that forces the AI to cycle a turn. It seems to me (perhaps due to a lack of pausing or jittering) that the game isn't trying to cycle the turn - that the dysfunction is actually with the (Turn) button. Just an observation of course, not a critical analysis.

If you right click the GalCiv3.exe select properties and select the details tab you can see the exact version number. I hope that helps
Example:http://screencast.com/t/AIPVHOCrPa
OK. The level shipped on Jan 22 shows 0.70 in the start up window while the details of the .exe shows 0.70.5. Hence, they are the same version at this point.
Mine is 0.70.5.0. To ammend my earlier post: I suspect rather that there's a trip in the code that handles unresolved / incomplete actions from units the player controls. In both my hang-turn saves, I've noticed there was a remaining fleet or ship movement that had to be commanded. Obviously this doesn't always cause a hang, however, because I've seen the (Turn) button reappear before after I've assigned post-(Turn) commands during that check.
Moved to support.
Thank you Island Dog and Raynman. 0.70.5 Confirmed! Finally makes sense, = ) You can understand why that last .5 can be a bit confusing and critical when it comes to beta testing!
Anyhow, appreciate the help. Has anyone on the client side, been able to come up with reliable methods to get around the hangs? I understand Stardock is probably working furiously on this, but anything we can do to help them out and help out our less-patient testers out there can only benefit us all.
Island Dog or Raynman, do you need anymore saves attached to my support ticket I submitted? I can probably continue to create one for each race and so forth, though it does seem to be recreatable, across multiple platforms and specs.
FWIW I'm getting a hang too. I'm in the 400s. I've played one game w/o incident. But current game has hung at least 3. CTD a few times. The scenario there is probably related to the bug when you cannot see queued items. Sometimes when I cancel an item I CTD. I wonder if the other bug is happening.
400's on what size of map and how many AI ayork1? I suppose their difficulty may be in important as well. I don't think system specs are relevant here because for me my game would never come close to filling 32 GB of RAM. I'm also not CTD'ing until I attempt to load the game after saving it while it's at the "Wait" hang moment. Any saves prior to that turn will always lead to an eventual "Wait" again, but never CTD, unless I load that specific turns save.
Since I saw the suggestions to lower video settings, etc,. I tried running a Tiny game with all the minimum settings. Well, I don't know if I have a meaningful sample, but my rate of freezes (not CTDs) seems to have increased over my Immense games with video settings high! Now it is true that turning down the video setting drastically increased the frame rate, the smoothness of scrolling, etc. But as I say, in my case it doesn't seem to have anything to do with freezing.
(I have submitted a forced crash dump in a ticket for them.)
Personally I am positive they will get this, but I am impatient like others.
I got it on turn 223, immense, all races, normal difficulty. I was playing Tor.
Just got another one, myself. Turn 247, I created two DMP files (the second because the windows crash process was only 63mb versus the game's dumplog which was around 4 gigs), and I ran the Stardock crash support thingy. So I'm gonna submit that ticket now...
I sure hope Stardock's on it. After some searching I found that people have been reporting this bug (or possibly a similar bug) since back in October/November.
Anyway, gonna submit it now and hope for the best.
I think they're good now. They have a Beta 4 Patch 1 which is unreleased mentioned a hang fix.
*fingers crossed*
That said, definitely keep the DMP files in the folder just in case right? = )
Oh, awesome. Let's hope so, I'm fiendishly obsessed with this game. And I can't even estimate all the time I've spent in GalCiv 2. Oh man.
The Beta 4 Patch 1 at this time is Opt-In but there are some hang/crash fixes as mentioned above.
i have found that when my game hangs i can go to option and change anti-aliasing to 0 and i can play some more and when the game hangs again later in the game i tryed running game exe as administrator
Trion3,
Is this still happening for your with new games started with the beta 4 opt-in patch 1?
yes atm i can get the game to run if i do crash i reload and zoom all the way out and i can cuntinue to play
I would say then if you're still having the issue with new games created with version 0.71.1 create a new support ticket/support tool or add to an existing ticket of yours and note still happening in version [0.71.1].
