So now that we've got our first look at the battle viewer, can we get some more details on how the fully fleshed out fleet combat will work?
It seems as though it won't work. If tactical combat would be in, there would be no need for a separate viewer - as you could just as easily watch combat play itself out in a tactical combat mode. I hope I'm horribly wrong though, I'd love to see some interactivity.
At least some options/tactics would be nice. Did anyone play Endless Space? You have "battle cards" for this. Its still only a "battleviewer" but in each of the 3 phases you can select different tactics with the cards and you have formations and targeting options at the beginning of the battle.
Some kind of "Retreat" action would be nice too. Scouts without weapons are just killed every time.
I don't think he meant actual tactical combat with player intervention. But there have been mentions by Frogboy and the Stardock people that GC3 would have a more complex combat system, possibly with some pre-combat decisions. So the question is legitimate : what will be there? How will it work? Because so far, we have a few minor changes from GC2 with the introduction of new stats, but they don't yet really change combat all that much.
Correct, I was referring to the combat enhancements that have been hinted at (pre-battle/ship roles, etc) but not explained in detail. Also, nice to see you SpaceVoyager, I remember you from the Kerberos forums before they went teats up on Sots II and started making meh iPad games.
True, I was there. I still take a look from time to time in hope Kerberos will be able to tackle bigger projects.
