The last time I tried to play a complete game was when there were only two DLCs out (one being the map pack from Fallen Enchantress). Anyway, the game seems much improved. If nothing else, I'm glad to see the skill trees streamlined a bit.
I won't try to claim it's perfect, but it really has come a long way since launch.
Personally, I could wish the elemental summons aspect was better. It seems pretty weak.
The trait that gives you elementals from shards? I haven't used that yet, although I was planning to give a summoner-type a go next to see if it was more to my liking than previously.
Try some mods!
XtraDeconstruct is huge and great. If you want to summon your brains out, try demons and Wizards (which also has religions now!).
Children Of Storm is the mother of them all, and oldie but goodie.
Or just download anything by me. : )
