Hi guys, i am having problems importing custom .mesh's into 3ds max 2012. I am using the latest version of the importer tool. I want to look at some of the custom ships in 3ds max for reference on how things are done, ie with multiple UV's etc. but whenever i try to import a .mesh to 3ds max i get the error multiple Materials not yet supported. I read somewhere that i should try and import them into XSI, but the tutorials i have read say you need to first import the model into 3ds max. How can i get the model into 2012?
Cheers
The Max plugin doesn't support more than one material right now. You can overcome this issue if you use the Sins Data Converter tool to convert the .mesh to txt format, open it up and change numMaterials to one, and then delete the extra material entries from the file. You should then be able to convert the file back to bin and import it into 3ds Max.
Yes, it the biggest problem with the 3DS max plugin. You'll have to redo adding the multiple materials to it. There is documentation on adding multiple materials included with the general mesh information, which you can get by downloading the forge tools in the download section of this site (note that all the tools also included in it are obsolete for Rebellion, use the tools in the rebellion install folder).
Also, nice avatar Lavarider. I think you could find a good image of Quadraxis with a background though.
I'm aware of that image. The pic I uploaded for my Avatar was supposed to have a black background... Apparently transparency appears white on the Sins forums. I've just been too lazy to change it.
I'm not sure why, but the version of the importers I have both import multiple material meshes into 3ds without issue, even if they will only have one material.
