After reading the thread on Dead Planets I noticed many who like the idea of simply destroying entire species and using burn all policy. I think we should have this in game but tie it to things like diplomacy.
For starters, Planet killers or whatever you call it or such are not enabled by default for the AI, the player has to do it first. Once that choice is made the Player suffers awful diplomo penalties for such an act (see Babylon 5). Also a check should be made on population happiness which in turn should also tie into a bonus or penalty to production.
Then the AI would be enabled to do it to you. Depending on tech level if word gets out of your genocidal deeds you will likely be the target as well of such awful destruction.
If you want to simply glass a planet by all means let the rocks fall! But there would be a terrible cost to start such an event.
Anyway, I know we are in Alpha and this can be a mod for later days. I just thought I would toss it out there and see what you all think.
All I want is my super-fleet of doom to eradicate every living thing in a 1000-light year radius.
I crave it.
Which I think you should. However the AI gets to do it as well, (once you open that door.)
i feel a urge to post a picture of Fluffy, destroyer of worlds.
What is so much worse about actually destroying a planet vs all of the standard planetary invasion options such as planetary bombardment/core detonation that cause the planet quality to drop?
Nobody gives 2 shits about you nuking a planet from 20 to 2 quality, which lets be honest is practically the same.
Why should you get a massive penalty for the one but the other is just business as usual in a war? Perhaps we also get cool stuff like supergerm warfare or something to attack planets.
Aside from that, why only negative penalties? Why wouldn't a malevolent race praise your show of force? Why would civs that fear you/are much weaker publicly denounce you instead of becoming more afraid?
Such acts could perhaps also give a morale boost to malevolent civs, and only penalties to benevolent. Or perhaps benevolent would require more checks an balances before resorting to such acts whereas a malevolent could just do it because they feel like it.
Maybe United Planets can be involved: ussualy they only have a "ban superweapons" thing, but perhaps if there is alot of malevolence in the galaxy, they can decide that if a war drags on long enough, a drastic measure is needed to end it and sanction the use of a superweapon.
I feel a lot more could be done with this then just a penalty.
Ok, that is fine. But destroying the planet seems an easy win for a human player. Just rush in with your armada and set your little Doctors to unzip and viola no more planets!
Seems too easy for this kind of game. I am just saying balance this out against a human player abusing it.
I want this, or something like it. Perhaps I dont want to invade my opponents' planets; maybe I just want to lay waste.
It would be nice if there were different types of super weapons. In order of degree of devastation:
It's typically balanced by being a very late game tech (i.e. you are already winning or its used to break stalemates), and it often has some limitations (i.e. you cannot nuke important cities off the map in civ5, terror stars only move 1 square per turn, are hard to defend and enemy sees you coming a mile away). It's also easy to imagine a superweapon requiring a limited resource or just alot of resources. There is lots of ways to balance it.
Also ofc letting the AI use it BEFORE the player is also a way to not make it easy on the human, especially on higher difficulties.
Those aren't superweapons in this game. Orbital bombardment is the first normal means of invading a planet in galciv2, followed by things like core detonation and tidal wave generators. The superweapon in galciv2 destroyed a entire solar system in one go, think on that scale
Why stop at planet destroyers? I want to be able to Nova stars.
I just don't want a way to kill in the billions, but to do it in style! Please make sure we can build our death stars like regular ships, and paint them pink yellow or black if we want to and make the hull look like a duck!
