We've had several of these threads around the forums for games in general, but I thought it would be a good time to start one specifically for Gal Civ. We have lots of players from way back and players who are venturing into Galactic Civilizations for the first time with GC3.
Lets take a moment and introduce yourselves and maybe a quick bit about your history with Galactic Civilizations if you are a previous player.
My first experience with GalCiv was with GC2 actually. I received it as a gift from a friend, fired it up in the evening and didn't end up going to bed until well early the next morning. It's in my personal top 10 games of all time list, and I'm just as excited for Gal Civ 3 as everyone else.
Your turn!
Hello my name is Dizzy,
And I'm addicted to GalCiv.
I turned to GalCiv as a replacement with my disappointment in MOO3 and stayed for GalCiv 2
I'm Shekky been playing space turn based strategy games since master of orion back in the 90s got into master of orion 2 and really loved it. finally in 06 bought my first pc gaming computer and discovered gc2 around that same time and have been playing it ever since big fan of the series. Unfortunately MoO3 was a real disappointment as it lacked all of the elements that Made MoO2 really fun.
Hi How here,
First experience with GalCiv2... It was either a Gamespot or IGN article that linked to the download for the demo back in 2006, played it and I was hooked. Pretty sure I got a good 1500+ hours on it. Looking forward to GC3.
Ironically I use to live in Canton way back in the day and my dads job was a few blocks from Stardocks HQ, though only TBS game I played at that time when I lived in Canton was Star Wars Rebellion and little bit of Civ 3 but I had no idea what a Stardock was. Small world.
Also played the crap out of Sins (thanks for the ongoing support and great mod community) and Elemental (also a nice sized time sink and thanks for the free expansions).
During the decline of the game Stars! I found Galactic Civ and never turned back... I was carried with the wave of expectations and entered into a new level of stellar conflict with Galactic Civ II and now look for an even deeper level of conflict with III.
Hey guys, I have been around since Galciv 1, helped beta test Galciv 2, a friend of mine used to work at Stardock his name is Jesse, not sure if he is still there doing graphics etc for Stardock games or not?!
I am looking forward to playing Galciv again though really missed playing the game and this community. I hated Civ 5, what an abortion of a game compared to the killer Civ 4. lol
I'm a minecraft addict atm and Battlefield 4, I have been running my website trying to get some traffic going again which isn't easy. There are 6 of us running it at the moment. Come visit us guys @ Multiplayer Fanatics ~ Support all games we used to be called Video Game Fanatics
I thought I could download Galciv 3 beta today but I guess not. It says coming soon in the store, I just bought it.
I must confess, I pirated GalCiv I ... but yes, did eventually buy it legally, and then bought GC2 legally. And today I finally caved and bought Founder's Elite.
I've been playing TBSes since the original Sid Meier's Civilization (no roman numerals). Master of Orion II maintains a special place in my heart, and I also still occasionally fire up a lost gem, Interplay's Mechanized Assault & Exploration from 1996. I enjoyed Sword of the Stars as well, but SOTS2 remains a disappointment even now, years after release and supposedly 'fixed.'
Fell in love with Stardock's stuff with GalCiv2, been a big fan ever since.
Bit the bullet on Founder for GalCiv3.
I am MaxWar ( I eventually converted from Evil, but I dared not ask StarDock to change my name for something as Petty as Ethical alignment.)
Been Playing 4x, Strategy games since dear childhood; Civilization, Colonization, Master or Magic were the holy trinity of my initiation to those games.
Been playing GalCiv since GalCiv 1 on windows. While I liked GalCiv1, I never thought it to be particularly extraordinary. But then GalCiv2 + expansion turnout out to be my all time favourite in the 4x genre. Slightly ahead of Civilization 4.
For this reason I purchased the Founder Elite edition of GalCiv 3.
For fun only I have played
SMAC
SEV
Galciv
Civ IV
SotS2
i am 21 and a huge gamer.I been playing GalCiv since 2008 and i enjoy the series. its by far my favorite series to date. i have played SOASE and i have over 200+ games on my computer.I cant wait to play GalCiv3.
I am Krankher and I am about to turn 50 and decided turn-based games are more my speed now, after getting the snot beat out of me by my kids playing COD and Halo and such. Think the ungrateful brats might let me win occasionally. I started gaming with a C-64 back in 1984 and never outgrew it. Spent hundreds of hours playing the original Imperium Galactum. Have loved space based strategy games ever since. Also love a good rpg which is hard to find now. Did back Wasteland 2 on kickstarter which shows some promise of being a good old school rpg, since I still play the original Wasteland and remains one of my favorites still. Still playing GC II and I hope I like III even more.
I remember you Marvinkosh I couldn't figure out how to get that mod to work. Some of us just need to be able to download and play a mod. I do understand not all mods are made that way. P also found it hard to download and install mods in general on Stardock. I could use a guide on how to install and make a mod for Galactic civilizations 3.
Hey, I bought my first computer in 1978 an Atari 400 with flat membrane keyboard and 8K of ram. C-64 was decent but early on they died faster then they sold them. I am going on 59 years old, good to see some others my age. I used to hang out in IRC channel and meant quite a few people around our age.
I have my own minecraft server, I'm really addicted to Minecraft Feed the beast with Direwolf20 modpack.
Well maybe I can put together a video tutorial or something. Using one particular mod isn't really too difficult, or at least it shouldn't be. But across all the games I play at least, there are a lot of different mod installation procedures. Some games, for example, do not like mods in ZIP folders, and some do.
I'm not really sure what sort of modding I'll be doing with GC3. Perhaps an Even More Space Weapons mod?
Might you consider using a non broadcast format, record game-play, save it to a file, and upload to a viewing site (like youtube)? It s not a live broadcast over the web, but a vid recording people may view at their according to their own schedule.
Yeah. I did that today, tried it out, worked great.
Cool. Its what I do as well. What software did you choose?
Hello, all; glad to be back in what I consider to be a superb gaming family. I joined the group in 2006, and helped get the games out. Only a couple of tiny things, mind you, but proud I still am. This was, and I hope still is the most friendly and caring group that I have ever come across, and I'm sure that will continue. I couldn't afford the big one, so I will have to wait until after A, but after that, look out, so to speak. It already feels good to be in gaming home.
Just used what I had, Open Broadcaster Software, but with a local file. And tweaked the settings a bit for YouTube.
I found GalCiv 2 at a store and thought it looked cool so I gave it a try and have been hooked ever since. Just cant get past mission 3 in the storyline. but I have been playing on and off since buying it. I have the first Sins none of the expansions.
Dem pesky Dread lords ships ruining you day? Been ages since I played the campaing so I do not remember what mission 3 was.
But Its funny because earlier today in another thread it has been discussed about how using lots a cheap ships with only attack is a valid method to counter the Dread Lords uber space squids.
Hi all! I don't even remember how I discovered GalCiv II, but I remember I bought a boxed version that came with Dread Lords at some point before Twilight of the Arnor came out, and it immediately became one of those games that I always go back to several times a year. I play a lot of video games, but I suppose you'd still call me a casual gamer in that I enjoy games for the story rather than the challenge. Though I've never actually played any of the three campaigns in the second game and its expansions, I've enjoyed many narratives through custom games and it never gets old. The second game has given me many, many hours of enjoyment and that's why I chose to become an elite founder. I really want to support Stardock with value for the value they've given me!
Your join date is three years or more after Twilight of the Arnor came out?
I was going away and knew I'd get bored at points, I decided to take my laptop (Rubbish) and a game that it could run.
This was a last minute Idea and I saw this game on the floor I had never seen before, "galactic Civilizations".....huh I picked it up and left.
That weekend I discovered one of the best games ever because of the scale, the control it provides and the randomness. I think it was fate that put that GC there, I'm not sure why but I still have no idea how the game got to be in my room.
Naturally I purchased GC2 and bummed that all night. Thanks for reading.
Different account. I don't know when or why I ended up with two, but I bought the games on Steam with this account along with all the Stardock games I currently play.
