I've accused the game of doing this for a LONG time, but never had a replay to prove it...UNTIL NOW...
Played a 2v2 on ICO, me and another human vs. 2 unfair AIs, done on the pre-made map Backstab (or something like that)...
I have linked an autosave (1:15:00 in) and a replay (about 5 minutes worth) that capture this issue...focus on the asteroid right next to my HW (Eumolos IIRC)...near the end of the replay, you will notice that a light green ogrov just RANDOMLY spawns near the CENTER of the gravity well...by the end of the replay, a total of 4 light green ogrovs have just popped out of nowhere at my planet...I loaded the autosave and let the game run for several minutes -- 3 times in a row, the same 4 light green ogrovs spawned at that planet, so I'd say this issue is reproducible...
You can clearly see there are no ogrovs in phase space, they just magically POOF appear there in the middle of the gravity well...I have witnessed this occur several times in the past, all in SP (though it's rare I deal with AIs in MP), but apparently it can happen on ICO too...
I don't know if this is a bug or a sneaky "feature" put in to beef up the AI, but in either case I find it to be a serious problem...

More serious than illuminators' innate resistance to corvettes though? Now, that's the real question...
Ah, but this particular map is quite unusual; the wormholes terminate at asteroids rather than another wormhole. If you watch the replay and switch to Provians (light green) you should be able to see some Ogrovs actually jump from wormhole Ennomos to your asteroid Eumelos. By the same mechanism, wormhole Algoa connects directly to asteroid Adachi. So I think this is not a bug.
Also, the map's description does give you some warning: "Abnormal distortions of phase space have created strange wormholes with only one entrance."
Well dammit....
It's okay Seleuceia. Have a brownie, it will make you feel better while you come up with your next Sins conspiracy theory.
I wrote almost every line of the Ai code and I can assure you it does not cheat in that manner. Without seeing the replay I believe Agaricus's interpretation is dead on
