Yesterday was my first play through since release.
Seems to me like there are still many bugs for a release game.
The Icons that keep changing, when you zoom out and then zoom back in your are not refocused at center,
During battles the squares for movement are very hard to see...
I'm just surprise to see so many little clumsy tings still not fixed.
Any updates that I am not aware of?
yes, there are still quite a lot of bugs, especially concerning the UI. The next update to 1.4 is supposed to deal mainly with the UI and 1.5 with Diplomacy. The mechanics of this series have been changing quite a bit over the last 3 years so there was no real time to mostly deal with all the little clumsy things. In a game like this there a tons of little things and Stardock is not a pure game developer with lots of people only working on this game.
If they simply fixed the ever-changing/glitchy mouse icon issue, and crashing to desktop if I ever alt+tab in and out of the game after roughly 30 minutes of playing, that's really all I've ever wanted. I've had both of these issues since the beginning of Elemenetal:WoM, and still do to this day in LH 1.3.
Hopefully this will be fixed soon. The game looks beautiful. I started playing around 9 and when my wife called me to bed it was midnight. I did not see the time fly.
It's still a little glitchy. All in all it's pretty good though. Obviously, there is a lot going on with tech trees, spells, units, the UI, the AI and everything it's really complex.
I recall Master of Magic being way less stable back in the day.
you are lying! Games back in the days were perfect from the start and they were always running smoothly. There simply were no bad games then. Oh, and they were also much better than today's games of course, the game industry is going down the drain...
uh ok. I guess I'm lying.
@Phazonfreak: Where did you get those glasses? They have such a lovely rose tint to them.
I'd like to see some of these little things fixed, and I might agree the game could use a little polish. However, I would hardly say it's "buggy."
I thought it is pretty apparent that I was joking and making fun of the people that actually think like that, but irony does not always translate well on the internet...
I think it would've been a lot more obvious if someone else in this thread was actually ranting like that.
Is anyone else dealing with frequent crashes? It happens to me quite often: the mouse icon will change to the hourglass, but it will freeze there. Eventually, if I click anywhere, I'll get an error message saying that the program has stopped responding. Any suggestions? This has happened since I first bought the game a few months back.
I don't crash the game runs very smoothly on my machine.
The graphics are very beautiful.
Maybe buggy was not the right word. Just little things that I would not expect to see in a finished game.
When I zoom out and then zoom back in it does not zoom back to where i was I find that to be aggrevating. But it's nothing that would make me stop playing.
I finish work early and back I go.
I think I started the game on a to easy difficulty level (left it on default) because I have 3 heroes and no army and I am like 50 points in advance from everybody. People are groveling at my feet... (kind of like that) but I would prefer a bit more aggressive. So I might have to start over.
So all this ti say that I'm sorry if buggy was to negative. I was just wondering why things I think should not be there are still there. But hell I'm no developer so maybe I'm just not understanding it.
This happens to me somewhat often. It's annoying and I might lose a turn or two because of it. I set up autosave after every 1 turn in the program options. I also frequently crtl-S (quicksave) before pressing enter to end my turn as well. So usually I have either an last turn autosave or a quicksave to fall back on just in case of crashes.
There is an option (under "Advanced Options") to zoom in to your mouse cursor, rather than the center of the screen. I don't remember the default but maybe this is why zoom isn't acting the way you'd expect.
I have never experienced such a crash. However, since your issue might be mouse related, you could try this...
There is an advanced option to use "Hardware Mouse Cursor." Try turning it on and see if it helps. Admittedly, it's a long shot.
If that fails, you might try turning off some of the basic options that will improve performance, such as particle effects, dynamic shadows, and anti-aliasing.
Finally, make sure you have the latest video drivers. I have had games where updating my drivers fixed any issues I had. In fact, you might try this first.
^ Actually I used to get a very similar, if not identical crash. Switching to the hardware mouse cursor helped me immensely, and I only crash now if I alt+tab the game after about 30 minutes of play (the infamous "DX Error: Invalid Call" crash many people have been getting with this game since the beginning of Elemental:WoM). Without ever alt+tabbing, I now pretty much get zero crashes -- a claim I couldn't make back in the E:WoM days.
It's still a hardly ideal solution, since I'd much prefer to get the dynamic cursor that's supposed to display throughout the game. But it's better than constant crashing no matter what you do. Just hope these specific few bugs that have been plaguing the game for years now get fixed eventually...
Thanks for all the good advice, guys!
Oddly enough, I happened to turn off "Auto Turn" a day or so back, and I've only had one or two crashes. Not sure if it's related at all, but I used to have a lot more crashes. I think the problem happened when I would be frustrated by the unending hourglass mouse cursor and would click around in anger. This tended to freeze/crash the system.
Don't be silly. If they were to waste time on bugs, then we would have to do without bunny slippers and lollipops. Please get your priority's right.
Stardock turn around let me grab that knife out of your back lol..
Amen on the mouse issue!
So have any of these people with the mouse issue tried using the "Hardware Mouse Cursor" option?
That has worked for me. I have just bad mouse when the Choose Research dialog opens. If I pick hardware mouse it is always always just Windows pointer. But then you lose genuine clues when mouse it supposed to change, so I have gone back to "buggy" cursor!
Same. I tried it but it sort of made the game more difficult to play.
I am getting lots of random crashes. It is unstable.
It especially crashes a lot when one of your cities is finishing an improvement this turn (at least with very big maps).
