...that a worthy successor to Star Control 2 might actually be made. Normally I don't get excited for far off things but I can't help myself with this one. Thanks for taking this property up, and outbidding some phone financial software company that likely would have sat on it... or worse.
Happy days and jubilation!
Thanks! We'll do our best!
I couldn't agree more!
I am also totally psyched to see more zany space exploration and adventure! Good luck, and remember to have fun with it!
I'm unspeakably excited to see this happen! Star Control 2 came out shortly after as I entered college; it quickly became an obsession. I stil consider it the best PC game ever made. I've been hoping for a worthwhile sequel since then, and when Atari seemed to be doing nothing with the IP for years, I'd kind of lost hope.
Thank you so much for picking up the ball and running with it! I'll be eagerly anticipating release, wishing you guys all the best until then, and probably buying several copies when it finally comes out. Please let me know if there's anything a fan like me can do to help.
I couldnt agree more then he did already.
on another note, its gonna be tough to live up to expectations...I dont doubt it, but.....please get the community in the boat too.
I can't wait for the new Super Melee. I loved the campaign but modern tech with the super melee mechanics would be amazing. There was so much strategy in the various ships of the original game. The earthling cruisers were pretty pathetic but get them near a gravity well early and they can clean house depending on your opponents ship composition (damn the Thraddash).
Star Control II is quite possibly the very best game ever created. So... you know... no pressure.
Thank you for picking up the ball, Stardock. If the game lives up to my ridiculously high expectations of a true Star Control title, I'm gonna make sure all my friends get a copy of the game. Although, most of them are already fans of old so they won't take much convincing...
To my great shame I never really played Star Control II, but I have an old buddy who was a die-hard fan and would talk to me about it all the time. So I grew somewhat familiar with it through him. If anyone can revive such a game I think its StarDock.
It's never too late to rectify that mistake. You'll find the game in its free, updated form at http://sc2.sourceforge.net/
It's one of those games that hold up very well to this day. The game mechanics are as solid as ever, the writing just as good, the music updated (if you wish), and the experience is still unequaled. Spend a weekend playing it. You won't regret it. Just make sure you don't dawdle by exploring the entire galaxy. Make haste towards your objective, as you don't have unlimited time.
I actually downloaded and started playing Ur Quan master HD yesterday Really like it so far.
Just stellar what SD has done!
Remains to be seen. Its one thing to sculpt your own 'verse, like GalCiv or Elemental. I think trying to further the creation of someone else and retain the creators' vision expressed through various nuances its fans will go for is harder, and you won't know whether you've succeeded or failed until release.
I am not sure as to why you say that since Stardock has not shown anything from their star control project so far. But if you are refering to simply the fact that they are doing something with Star Control, then yeah I guess it is.
This article here is giving good hopes that they might be doing it right. OR at least wont completely ruin it.

What i didn't like about the Galciv games is how they did the weapons and defenses, they had different defences for each weapon type and thats just a bad thing, i like how Horizon and Master of Orion 2 did it, where all weapons needed to get passed the shields, then the armour, to hit the hull and thats only if the weapon didn't have shield piercing properties.
I hope you make sure to have this game like that.
Not sure you posted that in the right thread buddy
Btw, my first Ur-Quan masters game just ended, I failed. I took too much time Vets of the game will know what happened then, I wont put more details so as not to spoil it for others, if they feel like trying this game. It is very worth it. This game is great.
I am playing it without any kind of guide/walkthrough as to keep the magic there. I will start over and now that I better know how to get around in the game I should get much farther!
If it were anyone but Stardock... I'd be concerned, now and forever... but it's Stardock! and I'm one hell of a happy camper! I'll also probably fixate on the forums till a preorder becomes available
Yes! If it were anyone not Stardock, would be very *Frumple*.
