in windows 8 task manager will show harddrive usage increase when moving mouse around desktop screen. climbs to 80% and drops as soon as mouse stops.
it only happens on the desktop. not over windows
disable fences and move mouse around desktop screen and problem doesn't show.
enable fences again and move mouse around desktop screen and disk usage appears.
using a logitech g5 mouse.
dsbig123, one bit of information you are not giving is when you enable Fences do you have a fence established and what's in it. The other possibility is that you are just seeing the effects of a program running in the background i.e. anti-virus or anti-malware that sometimes run in the background when activity is low.
on my ssd drive the same thing appears the usage goes from 1% up to 100% if i move the mouse.http://abload.de/img/idletoactive2ppe9.jpgBut i guess that is normal...
sorry for the delay.
I do have fences establish, left quater half of screen is hidden fence and trash is in a fence to get it from moving when changing resolutions. and they are all locked
there was no other process running that was causing usage, antivirus was disable at the time.
What version of Fences are you running?
I'm going to resurrect a far dead thread because I just noticed the same issue. My work PC sits under my desk. So I installed a system tray hard drive indicator. When I move my mouse across the desktop with Fences enabled, the drive activity greatly increases. If I turn off Fences, I don't have this problem. If I move the cursor over a window I don't get this, either.
A necromancer raises the thread!
I have the exact same issue, no matter if i have any fences or if i remove them all, i can even hear the drive grinding away every time i move my mouse on the desktop, after disabling/uninstall the issue is gone.
This was not present on the old free version of fences, although that has other issues on windows 10.
I was using the old free version for quite a while on win 7 with no issues, after upgrade to win 10 the old fences would not allow me to move icons on desktop when installed so i thought id give the latest version a go and after the trial finally purchase it. But after using fences a bit i notice the grinding sound from my drive every time i moved the mouse cursor on the desktop, double click hiding/unhiding the fences would make the grinding go away for a few seconds and then it would be back. I had the latest fences 2.13 trial installed.
I should note that i probably wouldn't even have heard the grinding if i didn't have my computer on my desk (it has this nice shelf for the computer)
As much as i love fences and have gotten pretty used to them i have decided i rather not have this strain on my drive every time i move my mouse on the desktop. (oddly enough i spend quite a bit of time on my desktop, its why the fences were so useful)
If there is anything specific i can provide to help you find the cause, i will gladly help.
Hi,
Same problem for me on Windows 10. I've got Fences 2.13. If I move the mouse over the screen, the hard drive is fully busy.
If I stop the mouse, it stoppes. If I do it inside an opened window, the problem does not occur.
If I disable Fences, the problem does not occur. When I enable Fences, the problem comes back.
Please report as a bug (as I've paid for this version...).
Thanks !
Don't know if you saw my thread but try disabling Desktop Pages in the configuration menu.
That's exactly what I said "If I disable Fences, the problem does not occur.".
But then, what is the use to have this software if it has to be disabled...
Yes I know that you disabled fences. What you said implies you turned it off completely. However, disabling Desktop Pages still allows you to use the primary Fences feature but you won't be able to swipe to a page off-screen which seems to be bugged causing constant HDD writes.
Ok very sorry, it was my mistake !
Thanks a lot for this tip, disabling Desktop pages is working for me.
Have a nice day.
