The popular PC space strategy game, Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion from Ironclad Games and Stardock Entertainment, will be getting its first downloadable content on June 5th. "Forbidden Worlds" adds new planet types, planet specialization, technologies, planetary bonuses and additional Steam achievements all for $4.99.
The war between the loyalists and the rebels within the TEC, Advent and Vasari continues within the depths of Trader Space. Yet, this sector of the galaxy has far more worlds and history than any of the factions are aware. The need to survive forces each to expand into the unknown, discovering worlds of hazard, wealth, risk, and mystery. Most ominously, the Trader factions have been loathe to expand to these worlds due to the dark myths that surround them.
Feature List:
The Forbidden Worlds DLC will be available direct, as well as on Steam, GameStop, GamersGate and GameFly.

I've actually given up on either one of those and most hopes for the game, but I really don't spend the time you do waiting for me to post to pull such zingers out of your hat.
My opinion doesn't seem to matter because Goaway will spin it around to how modders aren't getting any thanks or mention whatsoever, StarClad isn't sacrificing virgins to Danman and tattooing 7DS on their forehead, the game needs a campaign, the pirates need their own titan, etc...
But, so Goaway can feel superior...
Modders added stuff like this before and gave it away. Give it away as well so you keep the community as one group.
Like Lavo, I'm pretty cautious about Steam workshop. I might use it if it were available, but both Steam and Moddb/Desura have their own monetary interests over any real desire to help mods, and it shows up when modders inevitably have an issue with them. Ideally we'd have an open source non-profit service to do this, but its not a perfect world...
I assure you, I was posting just as much when you were banned or whatever that was. It makes sense for me to be here because I like this game, it is why you spend any time at all here that is a mystery.
Of course not. Saying that modders have done all of this before is hardly constructive criticism, not to mentioned that the DLC isn't even out yet for you to even know that. I do take you seriously on the rare occasions you post something worth while.
"i have no choice but to pay $4 dollars"
i know the devs have freed up some memory with the 1.5 beta update but im kinda curious how there actually squeezing in more high res textures and technologies overall. How much memory are we talking about here?
Does the 1.5 beta end on the 4th?
Do we need 1.5 to install the DLC
frog has managed to HIDE the DLC so well that I can not find it, therefore can NOT buy it
harpo
Great news to hear. A few days ago news about a new update, and now this!!
Cant wait till next month.
Someone said "only $5" and was happy about it being so cheap. Well... a game costs around $50.
So you pay 10% the prize of a full game and get four new planet types and 5 Techs per race. Doesn't sound like that great a deal to me, even when you ignore that most of the content has been in various mods since at least the days of Entrenchment.
I'm certainly not going to buy this DLC.
$5 for a DLC is a pretty typical price point, I don't think that's too much to ask...
The content being offered by the DLC, from what I can tell, includes:
When you compare this to most DLC, that's a decent amount of content for $5....most strategy games will add a few units or a new playable faction or some small added features and a scenario....there may be well-founded criticisms of the DLC, but I don't think the price is one of them....
I'm glad we're still getting this much support for Sins, I'll buy it twice and cover Norberts.
I doubt I'll actually use this in SoGE, but I'll get this anyways as it looks fun for base Sins, and these sorts of things succeeding means continued support for Sins. Plus I've enjoyed Sins so much over the years, I probably should give SD/IC more money. :v
Thats why i suggested to include some kind of research related improvements to be a part of the social development "path"
i like how this part is ignored by everyone "Discover 40 new planet bonuses during your exploration of the galaxy, unlocking the dark past of the Sins’ universe."vas hunter?
also on a random side note i recommend implementing this the same way supreme commander 2 implemented the DLC in their. put a check box on the main screen (or somewhere else easy to access) so u can turn the DLC on and off for game play online. just a thought.
also i was going to upload a picture of what i mean but i have no idea how i know im an idiot.
easiest way is open an account on a picture hosting service, upload the pic there, and get the "Direct Link" and hit the tree button in our forum reply to paste the Direct Link

In order of inquiry: Not 100% certain honestly - at least 30MB of memory. The v1.5 beta will end on the 4th, yes. Lastly, yes, v1.5 or higher will be required for the DLC.
As an aside to an earlier post - Sins: Rebellion is $40, not $50, for those who didn't own Trinity.
Just dropping in to leave some feedback of my personal experience with the Beta.
New planet textures look awesome - good job there.
1. Planetary city lights on the dark side of Terran planets is completely off the landmass, and by quite a bit - it's very noticeable.
As far as I can tell all the others look fine.
2. Normal AI has lost its bite (and in general all the AI's), Normal does not attempt to recover (or does not seem to) from a major loss and also does not seem to attempt to capture natural worlds near its capital when it could.
1) Is fixed internally (bad export).
2) Normal no longer gets any resource bonus, so it will be quite a bit easier than it was. Normal is now a true baseline level where the AI gets no special treatment. I'm experimenting with adjustments for the other AI levels, however.
I played Sup Com 2.... and it is a less than stellar idea...... because it still did divide the already small MP community.
I like Stardocks idea much better!
Yeah, but if it uses the steam DLC system I think you'll still be able to toggle DLC on or off. It's quite possible large mods that add their own planets will not be compatible with this DLC so that could be important.
Question:
Is the culture bonus on the culture/population planet specialization going to just be a bonus balanced on the current metric of culture(which is to say going to not matter in any kind of competitive play)- or it going to be substantial enough to allow culture pushes to be significantly more powerful then they currently are?
Honestly it would take something along the lines of a 100% multiplicative increase to culture output(as in the equivalent of having 2x as many culture structures)actually make culture-pushing cost effect(cost the defender just as much tod efend against the culture as the pusher spends on culture buildings)>
+100% may sound like a huge bonus, but I think it would be reasonable considering the defender can also gain that same boost by specializing their own planets.
Culture offense might actually bve useful if the defending player could ONLY defend against a culture-specced-planet's culture ina cost effective manner with a culture-specced planet of their own. At the very least it would present the opportunity of "aiming" culture pushes at the enemy's trade-specialized planets which can't actually defend against the culture push effectively.
Well here's to hoping the boost is substantial enough that culture gains some usefulness- otherwise I expect to see trade specialization be a no-brainer choice for anyone that has any time to build an economy.
If the DLC is a way to upgrade/add new features exploitable by modders, extend player options and continue to reinvigorate the game then give me 1,000's of DLC at $5 each; it's a small price to pay for the game I love. This is not sarcasm. Everyone who plays on the largest maps possible for days at a time knows what I mean.
Sins is not "just a game" for some of us.
backs out of the room slowly...
Yarlen, just a quick question, or really two. Will there be a trailer for this new DLC (Forbidden Worlds)? And will you post the screenshots to the Media section of the website?
Oh, and if you ask me, the next DLC, if there is one (and I hope there is) should focus on culture. And maybe also have some new character portrait sets. That would be amazing.
I suppose I could complain about copying, but I like Stardock too much. Also, I've missed Sins Plus, and UZI might be kinda pleased to see his old mod resurrected like this. It'll definitely be nice to have people playing it's offspring in MP.
(Oceanic, Forest, Urban, Barren -> Oceanic, Greenhouse, Ferrus, Barren)
I would prefer, if the next possible DLC improved the exploration thing even further. I mean, forbidden worlds is definitely a step in a right direction, but its still just few new planet types and their bonuses. What we need for the sins universe to feel more alive is few additional minor races/factions with some unique ships/structures/technologies to achieve this. Obviously, under assumption, this is actually technically possible, given the RAM limitations - i realize it would require new models with textures and all of that needs RAM and more RAM. But perhaps they´ll find a way as with Forbidden Worlds
