I know that there was a poop-storm with the release of E:WoM. I've worked for several game companies doing front line support to QA, and I think I know how you all felt about the release of the original game.
I had kind of stopped paying attention to patches and moved on game wise until I found out today from a friend that you had released a new version. When I did some research on it I found out that since I was an early adopter of the original game that I would get a free copy of the new one, as well as the expansion coming out. I immediately re-installed the Stardock download software and downloaded E:FE. That was at 2 P.M. Pacific time.
It is now 4:30 effing A.M. and I have had old SNL on Netflix on one monitor and E:FE on the other. Having been a *big* fan of MoM when it came out, you really hit the nail on the head for me. It is scratching that itch I forgot I had. I really hope that you are able to add multiplayer. I would even be ok with non-tactical combat if it means I can run a server for friends to play with me, but I understand your desire to make sure everything will run well and that it is something that the community really wants.
Again, thank you very much for making things right for me. I truly appreciate the hard work you folks have put into this, and I hope that someday I have the opportunity to make it out to your neck of the woods so I can buy you guys a few beers. It would be a good excuse to catch a Wings game as well

I am in a very similar position, so I will add my own "thank you" to this thread.
I also preordered WoM, and despite I never lost track, real life issues prevented me from trying Fallen Echantress until past week. It's been 10 days now and I think it's enough to say that I have slept very few hours during that time Last monday I just checked my watch and it was 4am! I had not suffered from "just one more turn" problems since Civ 4 / Heroes III times.
Of course, the game it's not without its issues, but you have an AWESOME very well done base here. I think it can be compared to Heroes of Might & Magic I. HoMM1 was a very simple game (few factions, few units, few spells, few skills) but yet there was some magic about the game that made you continue playing it again and again. HoMM2 and HoMM3 expanded that far beyond while keeping and improving the original magic. Just imagine what EF2 (LH?) and EF3 could be...
The whole thing, from Elemental conception until Fallen Enchantress release should be studied at business schools like a success business case. You have made History (with capital H) here not only in the videogame industry but in business in general. A company so committed with its customers as Stardock deserves a place in the "Best companies to be a customer of" Hall of Fame.
Thanks for the kind words!
What a coincidence I was just thinking of making a post similar to this. I only returned a few days ago and just cannot stop playing Fallen Enchantress!!
I was an early adopter of Elemental with hopes it would be the remake of MOM but due to performance issues of the initial release and poor gameplay I could not bring myself to play it. I patiently waited for Fallen Enchantress, however when FE 1.0 was released I still had the bad experience from Elemental in my mind and could not bring myself to play FE more than a few minutes. FE had been sitting dormant on my hard drive since.
Recently I thought about trying FE again and noticed there is a 1.20 patch out and updated my slumbering copy of FE with the new patch. After trying the new scenario and custom games I'm hooked. I absolutely love the new game play with emphasis on heroes as well as magic which was what made MOM so addictive for me. Also the new designed factions/races fit a lot better with the fantasy theme, well done on this regard also!
I've read some bad press about the scenario for FE but I find the change from city building to just plain old adventuring refreshing. You get plenty of city building in custom games anyway so I'm glad that more time was devoted to the quest story telling (main and sidequests) rather than making a butchered city building tutorial with limits which is what other games usually do with their campaigns.
Having also heard about the first expansion approaching in March I am even more excited. The new hero recruitment system and the level tree paths will make the game even more addictive as you can now customise your heroes to your heart's content. Being an early adopter of Elemental back when it was in beta I hope we will be given the opportunity to sample the beta for Legendary Heroes when it is ready!
Big thanks to all at Stardock for coming through with your promise from 2010!! I honestly cannot believe how much better a game you built from what was Elemental. It was a long wait but definitely well worth it!
I had never heard of Elemental before I saw an ad for Fallen Enchantress on Steam. I had played Sins of a Solar Empire, and while it was impressive in depth and scale, it didn't really appeal to me in a personal way.
I hate to admit it here now, especially when it may yet have consequences, but I pirated the release version of Fallen Enchantress in order to try it, and even though that version was unstable and inefficient in performance, I was amazed at the level of depth, replay value and sheer entertainment. I have, as I hope records will indicate, legally purchased the game since then (I literally bought it no more than week after trying it, the moment I could afford to) and I play it almost every day. I am most certainly going to be buying Legendary Heroes and while I don't see how a game of this type could be made multiplayer, I'm confident that if anyone could do it, it would be the people behind this game.
I like to think I have somewhat discriminating standards for games, and Fallen Enchantress is on par with Dragon Age: Origins and some of the earlier Command & Conquer games in terms of real effort on the part of the designers. While I know that one customer doesn't mean much to the corporate overlords, I want to say that if you keep making things the way you've made them, I'll be on board for as long as I own a computer.
tl;dr: Shut up and take my gildar
nice things you guys said.
I must agree, you did it well folks, I wish we had a heroes expansion done soon, so I can finaly play without the need to checking if there is anything new....
