Dream Team Academy
So, I have decided to challenge some of my clanmates and other pro players of the community to take *one* new player under their wing and help them get better at sins. We will look for people who are dedicated and are serious about getting better. I am not trying to help out every person at once, but rather focus our attentions on one or two people at a time to get them caught up to speed and ready to contribute to 5v5s.
This means each pro takes a player under his wing, and at the very least should:
If you are new, or a pro, you can post here to sign up and I'll add you to the list.
For the new players:
You need to show some commitment and enthusiasm if you expect to be tutored. Every pro has his own standards for accepting an apprentice. For example, if I have a vacancy, I expect new players to add me on steam after sending me a PM on sins forums notifying me of their interest and steam name. From there I will conduct a small interview just to get to know them and determine their enthusiasm. If I like what I hear, I will add them to the list.
In your post, be sure to include:
For the pros:
If you are a pro, you too must be committed to helping a player learn in the long haul, and even if you are bored of sins, you still are around on steam to answer questions when you are playing other games. Be communicative and encourage them to play sins with you when you are.
Pros signed up:

Im a pro and ready to Help
I am a newb seeking to gain a foot hold in the SoaSE MP scene (been playing rebellion MP for about 2 weeks now- albeit spending more time watching + [trying] to analyse SIN MP replay videos than actually playing).
Steam nick= Zyzyfer
Faction preference= Tec rebels (been playing 99% with).
I got point 1 covered (pro opening- taking asteroids with single colony ship), but I am sure there are other pro tips/ways to expand.
I've also been watching a lot of replays, following players such as (my apologies if i misspelled name as I am going from memory here), aquia, greg, ooloo, radioactive, red ruby, and anyone with DT in nick to name just a few...
Anyways SoaSE seems to have a steep learning curve, wherefore it would be of value to have a mentor.
who are you?
Hey, I'm Radioactive. I'll add you on steam at some point we can chat and see if I would be a good fit for you.
Edit: The steam name you gave me yielded no results on steam.
I'll help out. So sing me up I guest.
Doci here, open for any one willing to learn and be my apprentice. Add me on steam if you wish to partake. Steam name: simplygone
I don't mind helping. However, I am not nearly as aggressive as other "pro" players, so my guys might be better at soft eco...
I could help, but I don't know if I am to be considered a "pro" just yet. Rebellion was also my first Sins edition in which I tried multiplayer. I'm sure I can hand out a lot of tips though. Up to you Star.
I don't know if you read my post but i would love to help gets some better experiences in the game.
Ill sign up.
Steam and ico name is Angel182
Btw to add the info:
My steam name: *=IMA=*EadTaes
Should also add that I am a TEC Specialist/Trainer only. They would be better off with someone else for the other races.
"Little Star" here. While I'm far from pro, I'd be willing to pay it forward and devote whatever time I can to answer questions for new players even if it's just about my experience so far with the community etc. Obviously the disclaimer is that I'm still being mentored so it's mostly basics, but if anybody just wants another player on their friends list add OckhamzRazor on Steam.
Good luck with the program... I can attest that it works!
Would love the help, this game is so overwhelming to me right now. After years of Starcraft and learning that any "idle time" = lose, it kills me to read all the research trees instead of doing something immediately more productive. Every infocard I read I feel is another expansion for them
But that's all something I can learn from playing. I feel like I need help knowing what decisions are best and how to build up without screwing myself over.
Steam ID: chefwong
Do I still count as a newbie? I've only played this game for almost 3 weeks...got it just before the damn xmas sale...talking about bad luck wasting money...
Akaihane
I learnt from watching plenty of replays. It works.
Watching pro replays is a good way to learn since you played starcraft...you should know.
I've sent you a friends request ( I could find you but its weird I did a search for my nick and also yielded nothing). Maybe its something with my profile settings; I definitely exist on steam (I'll have to have a look at my profile settings later).
I've sent you a friends request on steam. TEC mainly rebels, is what I enjoy playing 99% on single and MP.
Accepted your invite Zyzyfer
I don't rise to the level of some of the pros that have already volunteered but I do enjoy teaching and would be more than happy to spend some time mentoring someone. I'm sure a few more "book level" players would make the 5v5 skilled world that much more enjoyable and competitive.
It's serious Ruby....
Not sure how many steamers check this forum.
You might also place a post here (steam forum) link back to this post.
I think this is a good idea, hopefully some more like Razor signup.
I'm PlayerSlayer, also happy to help mentoring 1 player at a time. But I am usually quite busy with my uni course too so if you can bear with that, I'm happy to help out.
I play all races so I can help you develop your skills to pro level at any race you want, and in any map situation you find yourself starting with. If you're interested message me on Steam (steam name also PlayerSlayer).
Also check out Ruby's post where pros and new players can get advice on how to get better https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/437125
Red's replay thread is also another good starting point. https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/430829
I'm happy to share my insights with anyone, be it a new player or a pro.
Hey guys, I'm a relatively new player to sins, and I am looking to gain a foothold in the MP here. I have a fairly decent background in RTS games, I have played many C&C games, such as Generals, C&C3, and earlier than those, Red alert / Red alert 2. I've also played Homeworld and homeworld 2. The most macro game I've probably played would be Supreme commander 2.
My prefered faction in sins is Vasari Loyalists.
As to my prefered playstyle, while I enjoy playing aggressively I'd say that I'm pretty adaptable and can play as I need to in a given situation.
Like I said previously, I am quite new to this game, but I am both willing and able to learn. I have a mic and both Teamspeak and skype, if anybody wants those, as I find talking through voice much less cumbersome than having to type in conversation. I'm also an easy person to get along with.
My steam name is Nathan1066 to anyone who may consider tutoring me.
Timezone: London Time (GMT)
Star add me to your pro list. As you know I go by DieHard in rebelion.
Although I am a bit sceptic about commitment of newbs.... remember we tried this before back in diplomacy and no newb sticked long enough. I am wiling to give pointers as my time allows. My RL is pretty hectic at the moment and I have to much to do for a 24h day but I still pop on ico one or 2 days a week.
So my mentoring would be more watching replys and giving pointers at what would I do and why.
PS perhaps you could link Rubys daily reply thread into OP. As sort of a first How to.
I'm new to Rebellion and after I've played almost exclusively SP in Trinity, I want to try my hand at Multiplayer now.
I have a strong-ish background in RTS games, including Company of Heroes, Starcraft 2 and Men of War.
As a person, I love learning new stuff, and I love teaching stuff to others. Concerning factions, I haven't made a decision yet, but I could probably do well as any of them. My biggest problem right now is probably the early game when I play as Vasari.
Since I''m from the Central European timezone and Uni starts again for me on Monday (and since I like playing a lot of different games) I'm unsure how much time I can spare for Sins, but I'd like to try. Steam name is Gneckes.
I am the "Universe" player on ICO. I'm not at PSs' level, but I'll be glad to help with new players.
Doci be my pro -Fallen_One
