I bought rebellion on steam and installed whenever I register to just sits there and will not load the game. I have just spent 6 hrs updaring drivers and changing settings and checking files plus reinstalling so on. The game didnt come with a cd key via steam its just in my library like all games so I cant even log in on stardock and register the game with a code. Please some one just give me the fix.
I (and I suspect many others) have the same issue. I've seen a variety of post (here and elsewhere) by Kryo suggesting we email support@stardock.com for a resolution (which I have done). However, as Stardock is closed for the holidays, we likely won't here a peep until next week (perhaps late in the week if the backlog is great).
I definitely don't begrudge them their holidays but it is unfortunate that many of us who got the game and were excited to play it over our own holidays are left disappointed. This is not the fault of the employees who are taking a well deserved rest, but ironically (considering #8 of Brad's very own Gamers Bill of Rights) an issue with the included DRM.
Stardock seems to have gone from a company with excellent products (Windowblinds/ObjectDesktop/GalCiv/Sins days) and very lofty ideals which I really admired and supported, to one where they are having trouble executing (Demigod/Elemental days) and struggling to live up to their own expectations. I do hope they are able to regroup and regain their lost mind share. I want the old Stardock back.
I just wish that they wouldn't allow there game to go on such a great sale when they are not working I mean obviously from so many post of people experiencing this issue throughout the yrs with there games they would know a lot of people would be buying there game and having questions!
A DRM within a DRM thats preventing me from playing the game I just bought, great work stardock.
Will see if it works tomorrow, if it doesnt then I may ask for a refund from steam because shit like this really piss me off.
Ok, I was able to find a resolution to my problem without yet hearing back from Stardock. Figured I'd post here in hopes it may help someone else.
First of all, here are the contents of my sdactivate log:
Using silent activation with null serial mode. Application start: 2012-12-31 6.1.26 Silent mode Mode 2 Submitting activation request... Download: failed HttpSendRequest Result parsing error (1) Error activating the product Please ensure the serial number entered is associated with the email you used and attempt to activate again. Include this log file if contacting support.
In particular, note the "failed HttpSendRequest" if this is not the problem reported in your log, then this solution likely won't help you.
This post suggests that the problem seems to be SSL related and happens if you haven't used Internet Explorer to initially make an SSL connection. To be honest, I don't understand the details but the solution was simple enough: Simply use Internet Explorer and go to https://store.stardock.com.
Yeah, that's it. Whatever IE does to some Windows settings with the https request seems to do the trick. After that, I tried to start Sins:Rebellion again and this time the activation worked without a problem.
Perhaps the forum moderators should sticky this information? It might save a lot of support emails. While the solution was simple, finding the information was not.
Hope this helps. I'll put this post on the Steam forums too.
I'll try to bring that to the attention of someone who can do that, whenever they reappear.
