Hi,
Many of us are experiencing regular explorer.exe crashes with this new version of Fences.
My question is simple, when Stardock will release a new stable relaease of Fences that fix these problems?
Thanks
Hi
I have been running it since the early beta versions and have had no issues what so ever. I use the multiple screen fences, folder fences and normal arranging of fences on my win 7 x64 rig. Have you sent in a support ticket with system specs and software versions installed. Was fences updated using Stardock central or just the downloadable file from the store? Is it Free, Demo or Paid Product? May be just a specific issue with an element in your system that may not be sourced without the detailed spec from all users experiencing this issue. How many are experiencing this issue?
Cheers

Yes, when will be there be a solution to this issue? Some users have given up asking for a solution to the crashes, I believe.
Fences 2.x works fine for me on Windows 7 64-bit, Ultimate, SP1 with all OS updates installed.
Does your coming here to say that Fences works on your PC solve the issue that other users are facing? This is how it goes, then: it works for some, so there is no problem at all?...
Hey jjbjolicoeur, you calling out a user for expressing their user experience comes across as a [politically correct] not nice way. I can certainly call you out for your choice of words but, I won't. You have 1 [user created post] about the issue(s) you've experienced. That is not to say others have the same experience. You have done what you feel necessary to report the issue(s) you're experiencing. It has been noted by support on multiple post's. It appears that at this point, it is out of supports hands. The developers have been made aware and they are working on a fix. I'm sure when a fix is available, we as users will be made aware of it. In the meantime, find something else to point your energy at. If you are not happy with how Fences works on your system? Uninstall it until the fix is available, Easy Peasy Frenchy. No need for negativity...Have a great day/evening...
I'm using it on both win8 pro 64bit & win7 pro 64bit and it works with no issues. I'm not saying you not having issues with it. It could be something you're running that is conflicting with it. I'm sure stardock is working on it in any case. So like waxplayer said you will prolly have to uninstall it till theirs a fix for you.
No, what it tells you is that the issue is not WITH Fences [specifically] but with an issue of some form of compatibility with a FEW users who clearly have something odd and/or rare and equally difficult to replicate in-house and thus SOLVE.
Agian you have had this same answer before. It appears the majority of users experience no issues which presupposes Fences IS 'stable' albeit NOT UNIVERSALLY stable when combined with some ABNORMAL OS setup/installation.
The process for such resolution is to open a ticket with Support.... and wait for specific response.
The issue is clearly specific to the user so that is going to be the ONLY course for resolution...
Yep. What he said.
Anyway, thank you for your kind and wonderful way of trying to help.
You're welcome...
So I should understand that no upgrade/patch will be released to adressed issues encountered with explorer.exe crashes when using Fences 2 ?
With all support tickets that you received you are unable to release a patch?
About my setup:
Fences 2.01 pro, Win7 32bits, nothing specialNo problem with Fences 1
I'm not up to speed with the status of bug-hunting/conflict resolution but I would expect when specific crashes can be replicated they'll be solved. I am betting, however not everyone's issue is exactly the same, just as not everyone's setup is the same.
The process is to lodge a ticket with support@stardock.com and wait. Be certain to provide every detail of the specific issue to them so replication/resolution can be timely...
I agree with the idea that constant complaining doesn't do any good, but if people are having problems with Fences, then that still bears discussing. If a problem was reported once and you just sat back and waited, nobody would fix anything because it would only look like there is one person having that problem. I took your approach when I first bought it and it wouldn't work and that was when it was released, I'm still waiting for a patch to make it work.
Personally I can't even install fences without it causing my machine to crash constantly. I'm running Win 7 64 bit on an overclocked i5 with 16 gig of ram, so I somehow doubt my machine is the problem. I've paid now for 3 versions of Fences and this is the first one that hasn't worked. When you look at how long the program has been out and how many people are still having, telling them to sit back and just wait doesn't help the person having a problem.
Besides, how many of us sat back and waited for Elemental: War of Magic to get 'fixed' and how did that work out? (Don't give me grief for that, I paid for that game and turned right around and paid for FE as well)
It's not the power of a machine it's the specific detail of configuaration....something ELSE you may have installed.
Mine's rumming Win 7 64 bit on a bog-standard i7 with 12gig....doesn't have an issue.
As I already said, I am willing to bet the issue is marginally different on each problem computer....it is only the result that's similar....the crashing of Explorer.exe. And again, it's not universal by any means. Yes, it may be everyone in this thread/these threads...but it's still not everyone using Fences. Replication of the problem requires specific information passed on to support@stardock.com . No amount of generalized complaining and/or discussion here on a forum is going to facilitate resolution ....other than by being reminded to contact support, as stated.
Yes, people are having crashes, but noting you have an i5 with 16gig of ram is meaningless. What is probably more useful is what 'uncommon' program you have installed which may have some bearing on the issue....
I have contacted Support several times and I am still waiting for a genuine answer. There seems to be always an excuse or other means to deter users from complaining for real problems they are facing. Sometimes you are insulted, sometimes you are told to wait (yes, but there could be a time frame)...
I have a friend who was trying Fences 2 and who was almost unable to use his computer because of constant Windows Explorer's crashes. He could only have peace when Fences was uninstalled.
It is crystal clear that Fences 2 causes Windows Explorer to crash; many have complained about it in this forum. I don't believe that the fault is with any settings on our computers. If it is so, Fences' developers should tell us what settings they have changed on some of the computers which were having problems with Explorer, which afterwards are working well. If Fences conflicts with any programs, give us a list of these programs, please.
It seems that the users must bear all the blame... But more than one user are facing the issue. Tell us where we went wrong. Our computers work fine without the crashes. We use many other programs and if there are any issues the Support services are ready to help--if they delay, at least, members in their forums are quite decent and do not insult us.
I totally second what Damion_Scott said.
I don't see/read anyone deterring any user from expressing their issue(s) with any of Stardock's software program(s). On this particular thread, you either intentionally or unintentionally or maybe out of frustration talked down to another user expressing his/her good experience with Fences. As you stated, you have contacted support several times. They are aware of your issue and I'm sure the similar issue others have expressed. As support has mentioned in these public forums, the developers are aware. However, as Jafo pointed out not everyone having a similar issue are running a similar set-up/configuration.
It may be crystal clear to you and others may share your POV. However, as it is; the developers have the task of determining what is going on. As it stands, if you have not done so already? You should uninstall Fences if it is that much of a problem to you. Stardock will not be back at HQ until after the New Year [that's about 8 - 9 days]. I'm sure they will have many tickets to respond to, that doesn't mean yours will be ignored. I'm sure when more information is available, it will be made available to us end-users...Try to have a Merry Christmas...
Hey.. well rig aside I have by the sounds of it one of the most modded operating systems (Win7 64) I'm running about 600 of my own registry fixes plus stuff like the stardock bundle terra copy and a few other little tweaks. I want to throw out there.. who is running DeskScape? And who installed deskscape before fences? Also same question applies to DesktopX.A friend pointed out how each program patches your registry, and how DeskScape mod's part of your registry so fences doesn't recognise it later. hence bad install. After un install of entire bundle reg was unchanged.... =/ Working on a patch.. keep you posted. This is something thats been pissing me off to..
