When will we get WindowBlinds for Windows 8? Windows 8 has been released for a couple of months now.
Not only WindowBlinds, how about other software in the Object Desktop for which I paid and can not use?!
Many of us have paid a yearly subscription and for those of us who 'upgraded' to Windows 8 upon release, and those who had the beta versions for longer, we have not been getting our money's worth!
Please please please Stardock, get WindowBlinds and other Object Desktop software working in Windows 8.
M$ really dorked up the window borders and other customization features of Windows 8. Even in Windows 95 we could adjust the window border colors, change fonts etc. The constant grey borders of background windows in Windows 8 is driving me batty, and if I choose a dark color for foreground windows I can't see the text. What were they thinking?! And they did it at the last minute for the RTM. The prereleases had transparency and looked clean. To be honest I can't help but to compare the UI of 8 to Windows 3.1.
That being said I'd like to thank the developers at Stardock from the bottom of my heart for working to make Windows 8 "livable" again with Windowblinds 8. Go team go! Yeah, work that magic!
Bueller....Bueller....Bueller...
Hello.
Currently Start8, Decor8, Fences 2, Tiles, IconPackager, IconDeveloper ,and WindowFX 5 are designed to work with Windows 8.WindowBlinds should still be ready in early 2013.
DeskScapes8 Beta is scheduled for this week.
Also, while not ODNT, Multiplicity 2 works on win 8.
Other applications may or may not work. At this time though, they are not supported.
So, when windowblinds for Windows 8 is ready. You will be notifying everyone that had bought it
right.
I just recently joined up with Stardock, because like many I now use Windows 8, and do not like the way it looks or runs and now have Start8, and Decor8, and Fx8, and am waiting for Windowblinds8. I started with Stardock, back when they started in 1993 and had a great time using their products. However I will be honest here and say over time I got bored with it and stoped. Anyway since then I had to start again so my descktop functions again the way I like it to.That said I needed to state here that I can't beleive some of the people here would cry about not getting free updates to support Windows 8, when these programs were bought by you to work in Windows 7. No one told you to upgrade to 8 you can stay with 7 and it will be fine and I don't see anywhere on Stardock's, site stating that their programs run on 8 except the ones I stated here and Fences, and Multiplicity, which I believe were made specific for 8 or that there will be free updates to support 8. It doesn't matter how long you have been with them they do not owe you free updates you upgraded all on your own and I bet you knew what would happen but thought by complaining here maybe just maybe they would give you a break. I think you should stop whinning and pay for the new versions just like everybody else has to. If the company gave in to everyone that thought they got shafted there may not be a Stardock, anymore you don't see Microsoft or Adobe offering free retail updates do you? Do you think for a moment that their costs haven't gone up ? think again everyones costs go up. you can allways downgrade to Windows 7 or just buy the new versions and don't worry be happy .
Karma to kenbad1010 ....it seems there ARE some people out there who understand ....
Yes, but I'm not sure I'd call Windows 7 a downgrade....hehe..
I check for Windowblinds 8 Updates every day! Windows 8 truly sucks without the desktop features that Microsoft removed. I have always needed at least one copy of the latest MS-OS to support my customers and usually it's the PC use from day to day, this has changed since I can't stand the juvenile interface that’s an ugly throwback to before the windows 3.11 days. I currently have Windows 8 installed in a VMware virtual machine and I cant stomach the looks of it even there. I have seven (7) Windows 7 copies and I'm happy with Widows 7 because it has a pleasing customizable Desktop UI. Windows 8 is never likely to become my primary OS without Windowblinds 8 now! I'll probably only ever upgrade one (1) of my Windows 7 licenses and I'm sure many like me with multiple copies of Windows 7 feel the same way. Microsoft really screwed the pooch on this one , I'm sure many haven't bought or upgraded to Windows 8 for the same reasons. It would seem, at least to me, Microsoft would have had many more Windows 8 up graders from previous MS desktop OS’s if they would have allowed the Desktop UI to retain the desktop features of XP, Vista and Windows 7. To remove these desktop features like Aero, transparency and Etc. was just plain self centered corporate money grubbing stupidity on Microsoft’s part! It's no wonder they are loosing market share to the Mac's and Linux Distros!
Please, Please if there is any chance I could participate in any beta’s of the new Windowsblinds 8 I would greatly like to do so….
There is no doubt that even though I currently hate Windows 8, I’ll eventually have to use it but not before Windowblinds 8 is available for Windows 8. I have (1) one purchased copy of Windows 8 now and undoubtedly I’ll be purchasing Object Desktop with Windoblinds 8 when it’s available. I have in the past purchased Windowsblinds 6 and loved the product.
Hopefully I’ll be a beta tester and be able to see Windows 8 in a better light soon!
I went back to Windows 7. The GUI of Windows 8 is awful, it's ugly as sin. I also had to fight with it considering that it keeps thinking that I have a touchscreen, no... I don't have a touchscreen, I have a keyboard and mouse. Even in the traditional desktop desktop it kept wanting to go to the full screen Metro stuff.
I finally got fed up, I went back to Windows 7. Now I can use WindowBlinds. I'm happy again.
Any word or update on WB8 for Win8?
ChicagoRican...
The developer is working on it, rest assured. It hasn't been abandoned.
Some things I've learned here:
1. At Stardock, they try as hard as they can to get it right. They don't release anything willy-nilly.
2. To "get it right" on as many computer software configurations as possible, a lot of testing is required. That's just to save customers (and Support) as much grief as possible.
That said, there are many vid cards/drivers, etc. out there. The testing staff and developer is a small number of folks (we aren't talking Adobe, here), and they are tasked with more than one project at a time. That's because the owner and CEO of Stardock prefers to have a very special studio, not an automobile production line. Stardock is very special that way.
So, I guess what I'm asking you is to please be patient, because the wait will be worth it.
Not everyone will have perfection right off the bat, but the aim is to put out a product which will run as it should for the vast majority, and try to help the customers who run into problems, as best they can.
Well said Doc!
I know we were told first quarter 2013, but this quarter is almost over and we have not heard anything in nearly a month. Is WindowBlinds still going to be released this quarter or has it been pushed back? I'm not trying to be impatient, I just would like an update as to when we can expect this awesome software to come out.
First quarter may not happen but it is in active development still.
Better to have it right than fast, right?
Thanks for that update! I agree with having right rather than fast. I just wanted to know what we were looking at release wise, so thanks and keep up the good work!
With the release of new apps specifically for Win8 and their widespread popularity I wouldn't bury Stardock just yet.
Removed by me as it was not support related......have a nice day.
After using Windows 8 for about 2 months, I reloaded Windows 7. I didn't see any benefit to Windows 8 and trying to make Windows 8 look like Windows 7 just to run the latest version of Windows was frankly stupid on my part.
If you have a choice, just use Windows 7 and the latest version of WindowBlinds. It will gladly welcome you back as a long lost old friend.
I went back to Win 7 after two weeks of the dual personality nightmare that was Win 8. I feel stupid myself for having given Microsoft money for the downgrade. It just didn't suit my computer use. The arrogance of Microsoft's leaders prevented them offering a choice when installing the new operating system, ie; touchscreen or standard desktop format. Give me a choice damn it!
Now Windowblinds is blessing me with choice again.
The way I see it, I paid for an Objectdock subcsription, mainly for Windowsblinds.
6 months after the release of Windows 8 I can still not use my subscription.
I paid Stardock for something I can't use.
When raising this in the past, I've essentially been told it's my own problem and and that I am stupid or lazy for not reading the fine print when receiving email promotions for Stardock products on Windows 8.
I feel totally ripped off and am not a happy customer whatsoever.
Can't believe there is not even an official launch date for WB 8 and that no more information seems to be known today, than back in November.
Been trying now for months to find out why I should love Windows 8 but actually hate it, going back to Windows 7 this weekend.
That will be 'Object Desktop', not 'Objectdock'.
The former is a subscripyion service for many of Stardock's products, the latter is one of those which DOES work on Windows 7.
It 'may' be a typo but it sends the wrong information.
IF [and it's a non-starter] Windows 8 had been a 'simple' progression from 7 then Windowblinds would also be a 'simple' progression.
That Microsoft chose to impose upon its users something so profoundly flawed is certainly no fault of Stardock's, but the latter is now relied-upon by many to "fix the mess".
It's not simple to do....if it was I'm sure MS would have just found a way to mess it all up somewhere else.
cordelia0507 your recent subscription gives you access [for 12 months] to a large number of products, many of which ALREADY work on Win8, and several desgned SPECIFICALLY for 8 - and those HAD TO WAIT for the release of 8 before reliable implimentation.
Same goes for Windowblinds 8.
It will come, and when it does it's entirely yours to use and keep, so there is no 'ripping off', in spite of one's inability to read....
Reminder to all.
