EDIT: version update and link to packaged mod -- rlane48
See a bunch of people asking for larger random maps, so I've been playing with making some. The code block below can go in your mods folder and you can try out two larger map types...
The first increases the size of the map, but keeps it relatively square, the second (huge/irregular) creates irregularly shaped continents by drastically increasing the map's water percentage. The huge maps pull in some big areas with fertile rivers and such that allow for city crowding (1-3 cities), which I suspect is due to the stamps they are importing. And I've only play-tested the first, and then only for a couple hundred turns. I had fun with them so far though -- I had ten players going and there was LOTS of room for expansion and exploration.
I haven't playtested the irregular maps, but they look interesting. Attempted to post a picture of one of these in a link at the bottom of this post.
Anyways, this is a start -- try them out. I'll keep working on refining them, including maybe getting into stamp creation.

very cool i'l have to try that out on my next game. Thanks for sharing!
You're welcome. Keep in mind that on the irregular maps, I never changed the number of players, so you may want to bring it down before you start one, due to a large reduction in land space.
Thanks much! Does anyone know how the system requirements scale with map size? I have a beefy system, but folks who try this may run into problems.
I have a medium-grade system, and it seems to run the 12x8 maps OK. I made larger ones (15x15), but never gave them a proper test. On those, turning of FOW in cheat mode resulted in some choppy scrolling.
Thank you so much for making these. I'm playing the huge map now, it seems great so far.
You're very welcome
These settings might even work with mods like Stormworld?
Yes, they definitely will.
Ok i'm about 300 turns into a game using your huge irregular, i did change the water percentage from 65 to 55 (both min and max) just because i wanted more land then what it was set to. But i have no problems and everything runs perfectly. So great job and thanks again!
@faacingwest -- glad to hear folks are enjoying these. Let us know how the rest of your game turn out on one of the irregular maps. I was thinking about your "more land" comment -- if the size of the irregular maps is increased even further, it might be possible to get the same usable land as the 12x8 full map... if you see what I'm getting at. It's worth a try...
I'm enjoying your mod a lot. I love huge map games that last a long time. Currently though there is the problem with city spamming. The game is treating the map like a Tiny map for minimum city placement with is 5 tiles instead of a large which is 7 tiles. So I'm currently trying to figure out how to get the game to make a minimum city distance of 7 or 8 for your Huge maps.
Sweet, I noticed the same thing and was hoping to get it fixed. If you figure it out, please let me know.
Turns out the problem is that there is a bug that causes the game to treat all user made maps as "Tiny" maps, or so I've been told and that appears to be what is going on.
So the work around for this is to change the minimum city distance for Tiny maps and that will affect your huge maps, I've tried this out and it works. This of course means editing the ElementalDefs.xml. But that was pretty easy and was only a single value change. Just have to remember to change it back to 5 if you want to play tiny maps as they were intended.
Which value do you change to make this fix?
Thanks.
The line is at the bot of the ElementalDefs.xml the one to change is this one
<MinDistancesBetweenCities_TinyMap>7</MinDistancesBetweenCities_TinyMap>
normally it would be set to 5 for tiny maps but I changed mine to 7 since I play on Huge maps usually. 8 or even 9 might be better but its a personal choice really.
Found a misplaced waterfall tile while playing a huge & irregular map. Might be related to the way this mod lays out the stamps:
[Edit: Apparently, this is a vanilla problem. See https://forums.elementalgame.com/436853/get;3282886]
Thanks for reporting regardless.
Playing stormworld on the huge map. with couple of additional mods (bridge, knives, summoners, large ui, tentstyle and swamptiles).
at first I thought I've just been incredibly unlucky. Now I am pretty sure a bug has hit me.
after more then 200 seasons I did not found a single source of horse, warg, metal or crystal or influence.
There is plenty food resources and shards, but not those that are necessary for any serious warfare. My only source of crystal are the ophidians .
What's more interesting is that it seems none of the other factions found their own sources as I can't trade with them the resources. They got some influence on occassion (presumably from missionary halls or quests) but that's it. I am battling hordes of brawlers, militias and archers (those are scary enough, as at this point of game they get into 5 man squads with 150 attack).
Not sure if save would be of any help, but something you might want to check.
Honestly I think that I've seen at least one iron mine and crystal crag early in the game, but they disappeared.
Anyone observed something like this earlier?
You sure you don't have your resources turned down on accident? The only time I ever experienced the problem you describe I realized that I had everything set to the minimum setting.
Hmm, that is strange.
When I started new game (I was starting a couple of them as I wanted to try master affliction and the mod wasn't cooperative), after this one, I noticed that I had all the setting regarding resources wrong.
I reset them to moderate values (excpet monster since I like them dense).
and this time I was playing on large map not huge.
I am almost sure I saw some mines/crystals at the begining of the game. Now I don't see any of them again.
I did couple of save/loads though.
I'll investigate further. In another game (not gonna win current one, after 97 seasons rating 29 against 181 best enemy doesn't promise success), but anyway it is not related to larger maps mod.
rlane48,
The huge maps are just to big for me, so I'd like to make mine XLarge. I changed with to 9 and height to 7.
Any side affect b changing the size that I'm not aware of?
I was wondering what does the following control:
<TinySeedSpawns>16</TinySeedSpawns> <SmallSeedSpawns>8</SmallSeedSpawns> <MediumSeedSpawns>4</MediumSeedSpawns> <LargeSeedSpawns>2</LargeSeedSpawns>
<ResearchRateMultiplier>1.75</ResearchRateMultiplier>
