So I promised a few people in multiplayer Sins of a Solar Empire that I would post this, for any who are interested(please Private Message me on these forums with your response):
So, you think you want to make a game? I am looking for aspiring or professional: Artists(Anyone), Programmers (any type), Designers(Web, Game, Graphic, Other), Composers, Musicians, Economists, Marketers, Statisticians/Mathematicians, Bloggers, Physicists, and Motivated, Specialized Dreamers of any sort. Oh, and Lawyers. You should love and have played a lot of video games.
That's right, I've been spending most of my time off founding a company. Its mainly founded on hopes and dreams, like most Indy's. Feel free to flame all you wish, I'm only expecting a few genuine offers. This is a long term slow growth development cycle that will only receive pay IF or WHEN the game ships. We will be accounting for final contributions to the game to earn a direct % royalty payment.
There are many plans in the works, my local team is currently at 10 solid people and 8 "up in the air" types after 2 weeks since recruiting began. I'm in an area where there is very little competition with other game companies, an area with a very strong art community and almost no creative projects. So, suffice it to say that we have 6 3d artists already on board. The business model doesn't require a local group, so that is why i'm reaching out into the internet on my favorite forum to see if there are any interested people.
The game concept idea has been carefully crafted over 5 years, and like all game ideas, it is terrible. That being said, I'm up for the 5-10 year production cycle that this business model will require to make this terrible idea into a great game. With this model you will be able to work your regular 9-5 job and you would choose how much time you wish to put into the project. You will be able to work on the project anywhere in the world that you have the engine installed, with a good internet connection. If things go as planned you MIGHT be able to earn some rent money for completing tasks. However, to be absolutely clear, this is not a for pay opportunity, it's for dreamers with the ability to make things happen.
Cheers,
Seth/Carpetbomb
If you want people to join the project, why don't you explain the idea they would be working on? That's likely to get you the best response.
Hi TAO, I approach it from this angle because making a game over a few years is a serious commitment.
I want the kind of people on my team that can make a decision for themselves, to have an answer that is solid and definite to the question above. If they are ready to make a game and want to know about it, by all means I'll share it. But it won't be on a public forum like this.
Posting an idea up on the internet is just a way people who aren't going to make a game tell people about their ideas. I'm not one of those people.
I would volunteer my freelancing work.
I am a graduate in computer graphics with a focus in spatial animation and 3D work. I'm actually working with some friends on a start-up business as well. I can, however lend my talents to another work, just to get a break in styles and work styles. It wouldn't be a full time commitment, but one can dream, can't they?
My other strong point is in analyzing and enhancing existing ideas and operations. I feel I may be a good help with finding a singular focus on your game idea, and improving other ideas.
Some of my work in the Sins universe is with the Distant Stars Mod. The Vasari flagship is my own creation. I also have a few works within the "show off your sins models" section.
If you wish for more information or works, let me know.
Good to see someone following their dreams

Indeed, against all the naysaying out there there are some people who get it. Its easy to say no, it's hard to do.
We are strong on 3d artists, and we will be stronger still with your help sivcorp(my PM will be arriving shortly). Note: I am in the middle of dealing with the legal aspects of ownership of assets made for the game(i'm going to form the corp later on for many reasons, this is just a placeholder contract for now). I don't want 100% ownership, instead it will be something along the lines of "you make it for the game, the game can use it no matter what, yet you can still use your work in the game for other projects". I want ownership to be like this because I want people to be able to work for themselves, I don't want money mercenaries. When I say it's "our" project, I damn well mean it.
Also, there is a significant risk with doing a project in this fashion, so I wouldn't want to tempt myself long term with attempting to control another person's hard work.
The company will start to truly exist as a game company when we ship a game and have a revenue stream.
Thank You's go out to the two PM's I've received so far
Apologies if you find this OT sareth, but i thought of you when viewing this video. i dig crowd collaborations on the net.. at the speed of light, with no physical limitations, and some of the human social frailties reduced. There is future in this, i can't guess at the form it will settle into.
