Just... wow.
Alright, history - I'm one of those who had XP, tried Vista, hated it, skipped to Windows 7, loved it, tried the Windows 8 Consumer Preview, loathed it, hated it, swore up and down I would never install such a broken OS and I would stubbornly wait until Windows 9.
Until I found out about this.
I was skeptical, so installed Windows 8 on an external drive, then this overtop of it, and... wow.
So, seriously. Wow. This... this makes Windows 8 /useable/. It makes it an... actual... human-useable OS for the desktop. It... I don't know how to be effusive. Suffice it to say, I'm now using Windows 8, and every part of it I loathe is nicely, surgically cut away by Start8.
Bravo. And thank you so much, Microsoft should be paying /you/ for developing this brilliant app that fixes their busted OS.
Are there any plans to allow 'widgets' to work again? The only thing I miss now is not having a desktop clock, calendar, weather app, and CPU usage set of widgets on my second monitor to glance at. Which is another failing of Windows 8, but compared to the rest, it's bearable.
The best thing about Windows 8 is Start8 lol!
Damn right it is!
I am not sure if Stardock is a publicly traded company but if it is I am going to buy stock!

Sorry guys, if I link to another site, but the widgets are still alive

the best mini app well worth the 5 bucks.., a must have for those who prefer win 7 usability...though I have no issue with the Modern Style for media consumption but for productivity I rely on the desktop style.
thank you for developing this add on.
Yeah, Microsoft took away the best feature of Windows, and Stardock put it back.
I have a feeling one day (soon) Microsoft is going to approach Stardock about purchasing them. Would you guys allow that?
@ schollenbruch, a little program so as to use gadgets in Windows 8 eh. Interesting.
While I hope eveyone at Stardock becomes rich due to tons of sales, I suspect that once Microsft took over, some of the products would just be maked as OBE or worse yet made fugly to match the Windows 8 interface. I can see the adds now - WindlwsBlinds 8, comes with your choice of 16 themes (light, dark, little less light, little less dark, ...). No need to spend endless horus trying to find the right theme online. You think 16 themes are limiting, be thankful we didn't give you 2 like we did for VS 2012.
My killer Windows 8 app is Windows 7.
