Hey guys, I've started work on Vasari model in Zbrush that should rock. I've been wanting to do this for a while but haven't had the time, and I noticed a definite lack of 3D Sins character models. So, here's to hoping I'll start something.
My first model will be a Vasari shock trooper/marine type character.
I'll have to take a bit of creative license, as I could only find 3 images of the Vasari. If you know of any, please let me know. (Stardock/Ironclad, if you're reading this and you have some reference images for the Vasari, gimme pretty please)
This is what I have to work with:
1) The Vasari in-game HUD portrait
2) The Vasari loading screen illustration (Vasari elder pointing toward view screen)
3) Vasari portrait; profile, with odd helmet
Modders, please feel free to use the photo-realistic graphics I produce with these models in your loading screens, etc.
I'll most likely be releasing the models themselves, although idk how useful they'll be to you.
Any requests for Sins related models, leave them in this thread.
Here's the complete base mesh for my Vasari shock trooper. Nothing special yet, other than that its ready to sculpt. This didn't take me as long as I thought, and actually, at the time of this writing I have the level 1 details in. There's hope for a decent colored version soon.

I'm not sure about the leg spikes...
Also, if you have any suggestions for weapons/props/etc let me know.
Thanks guys, glad you like it.
Pose test, click for detail.

Yeah biatch...that's a Novalith warhead.
His wrist wave cannon is almost done. I'll also be adding a shield to the opposite arm. Last stage will be various gadgets on his armor and helmet.
Later I'll add some more lights to the scene, to get some dynamic lighting going on. It's a bit dark right now.
Here's something for the TEC fans. Of course I'm taking huge creative license here..this is just how I see the TEC in a surface war. This is the base mesh I made this afternoon.
This is a TEC heavy infantry...the "A-10 Heavy Gryphon"Heavily armed and armored ground units capable of short bursts of aerial maneuverability.
That looks very oddly proportioned with the extremely narrow waist and massive everything else. It also looks like it was made out of granite slabs. It really looks more Vasari than TEC. Think converted industrial equipment for TEC power armor, like a smaller version of the power loader from Aliens with guns. All their warships but the Kol and Titans are converted industrial or commercial vessels after all.
Thanks for the feedback!
Right now it's essentially clay molded into general zones. There's no detail yet. The "Converted tech" look can easily be added in at a later stage.
The proportion emphasizes the armor, which would be required to stand up to direct assault from big guns. If there's a real person in there, a proportionally sized waist would hamper lateral trunk movement.
His waist and hips don't look right though. I'd widen them a little so the massive upper-body doesn't look like it would snap off if he moved too fast. Assuming he's got thinner plating over the smooth areas, it looks like he doesn't have a pelvis.
Well, you have to keep in mind that it's a mec, so the person inside is not the same size as the machine itself. Once the hard surface details are in, the whole thing should meld more. The person within comes down to about the mec's knees, and the person's arms fit within the plating just beneath the rib area. The head fits within the machine's cranial dome, but is itself about half the size.
As far as the waste looking too spindly to support the upper body: a machine like this would presumably be supported via hydraulics and pistons, so it's kind of irrelevant, imho.
As far as cannon, this could easily be a convert from a civilian design. Mecs like these, incredibly strong but able to move like a human, would be a god-send to heavy industry.
You said heavy infantry, so I was assuming this was some sort of power armor and not a full mech suit. I'm glad that got cleared up though. Forget everything I said.
This isn't anything official anyway, just something the modders can use if they want. Also, I'm not a military buff, so I may on occasion use the wrong terms .
Cannon attached through third limb.

And from the side:

Hey guys. A few things.
Any critique on that cannon? I've been told that the placement of the third limb is a bit awkward, and the cannon design isn't very ergonomic. I'm inclined to agree with both assessments. What do you think?
Also, I'll be starting on a Advent tonight, and I might do a different Vasari design.
BTW, do any of you guys have the Sins ships in .obj format? I want to create some hi-poly, hi-res battle scenes. .Max would also be workable.
I'll also get around to pulling out a decent render of the current Vasari model ASAP.
Thanks all.
Yeah, I think some sort of arm cannon or standard battle rifle would look better.
I know myfist and a few other modders have them in .obj. Ask in the modders get an answer thread and they'll probably hook you up. Otherwise I think I linked you the max script before.
Also I know these are supposed to be hugely detailed models, but if you wanted to see these in game one use could be as bodies for when ships blow up. One mod did that by adding them as debris, but it was just a pretty generic human model. Something more detailed for Sins would definitely be cool.
Wow, that would be awesome. I could create a displacement map and then decimate the model, to make it more game-friendly. Although decimation creates triangles, so I don't know if that would be a problem.
I would definitely be interested in creating those types of models if you or someone else would use them.
Here's some early Advent hard surfacing...nothing special, I'm just concepting at this point.
I crafted her face with the idea that she should look a bit childlike, and/or that you'd have to look twice to see if it was a guy or a girl. I imagine Advent are all so genetically perfect that in youth it would be difficult to tell the difference.
I'm just doing her head for now, because I want to get a lot of detail into it.
Advent Acolyte
Edit: Removed the screen grab and replaced it with a more photo-realistic render.
Here's what I've done so far. Eventually I intend to get all ships done, but I won't be able to resume work on this for a long time, due to RL time constraints.
Thank you thank you thank you.
I'll try to do something with it tonight.
This Advent bust should be done soon.
I don't want this one to look too organic, but wouldn't the Advent meld organic tissue and their electronics? I'm trying to avoid it, but if it's cannon, I'll add it.
Ok, here's the complete Advent bust. Just doing some conceptualizing for a full-body model. Sculpted, textured, painted and rendered in Zbrush, and then composed the final render in Photoshop.
I see this character as a zealot warrior..born and bred to do battle in honor of the Unity.
Hope you like. Critique, comments welcome.
Wow--really, really nice!
Awesome! Cant wait until she is finished!
Hey guys, been away a while , busy with work stuff. Can't wait to get started on this again.
I'm going to start over with the Vasari, and will give him a less "mushy" look. He'll be more segmented, less organic and all around more awesome.
If you guys have any idea for how any of these guys should look, please chime in.
Hey all, so I've been working on this for a couple of days. I took Lavo_2's Vorastra.obj model and brought into Zbrush where I did some retopo work so I could paint and texture it. I then created a luma matte from the renders and dropped it into a 3D environment I'd created in After Effects.
Then I mixed the audio and animated the ship firing a few weapons and charging the maw. I realize it may not be accurate, but this is kind of a test flight, to see if I could do it.
Once I get a more powerful computer next month I plan to make a few BSG-style space battles.
Although the clip reads like an intro to GoaFan's Enhanced 4X mod (which I love), he didn't ask for this, and it isn't endorsed by him. It's just a (very short ) fan film.
It's really, really short for now. Sorry 'bout that.
Recommended viewing is 720p at full screen. I definitely don't recommend you watch it here, on this page. It will be quite small.
That's definitely pretty cool Codex. I think it's a little short to replace the full intro cinematic, but if I can just replace the Stardock and Ironclad intro I'd use it.
Cool, thanks.
I'm going to expand the video to include a "making of" section that shows some of the process of getting it from Zbrush to After Effects.
I'll also how a slowed-down version of the intro at the end.
I knew that 4 seconds would be a bit short. What would be a comfortable length for you? 10-15 seconds?
I could create a new version with two titans approaching each other slowly, firing at each other over several seconds.
Of course, since your mod is focused on strategy and less so on space battles, you may prefer a different theme altogether.
Basically just let me know what you'd like going on in the BG and I'll produce a stand-alone version for you without the watermark.
It seems a lot shorter because there's only like 8 seconds of content in a 45 second video. The rest of it is logos or text, which is really unnecessary imo. You could probably gut everything besides the animation and then the text for the mod's name and that's it. Though I really like the little wireframe kind of deal you had going on, it didn't really fit into the composition in any way.
I also think you should tone down the camera shaking to about 1/8 of its current intensity.
All in all though, good stuff.
I pretty much agree. I think you could just have a single screen with GoaFan77 Presents..." along with whatever text or logo you want for your credit with making the video, cut out to the maw cinematic, and once the Vorastra passes have "The Enhanced 4X Mod" like you did, and have that under 15 seconds.
I noticed ZombieRus has replaced the intro video is one of his mods so its definitely possible to do. I'll ask him what video formats it takes.
Thanks for the feedback guys. I basically agree.
That video was a bit rushed because I wanted to get initial reactions to the animation itself, and in hind sight, I probably should have just ran the clip as-is instead of creating intro graphics for it.
To be clear, the actual intro I was proposing for Goa is the space scene at the end of the video, not the graphics that come before.
I'm going to redo it, incorporating Goa's suggestions.
I'll also produce a side-view of two titans closing with each other and firing at once another just for fun.
