So we have a problem on ICO...trolls....
I'm not talking about the people who are mean or just general asshats....or even the certain someone who likes the ancient chinese dialect of ALL CAPS...I'm talking about those people who don't quit when they should, or pause indefinitely in smaller games...you know, the people who really ruin the game for everyone...
The games where this occur are absolutely ridiculous...if not all the humans on a team quit, you basically have to kill every planet owned by everyone on that team....on large and huge maps, that can take a very very long time...
Some hosts who are aware of these people and their trolling will often boot them from games and refuse to allow them in....but not all hosts are wary of these trolls or don't want to come off rude...
I am proposing the idea of a blacklist...I'm not looking to ban these people (we've had enough of that around here), but I do think the community as a whole should be aware of these people....those who troll and ruin games for everyone will develop reputations that will have unofficial but grave consequences.....you troll continually, you get blacklisted...you get blacklisted, then everyone knows your reputation and hosts can choose whether to keep you in or boot you...
This is not a joke "Official Troll List"....this is a serious effort that unfortunatley has been thwarted at every turn....
Yarlen, I'm livestreaming every game I play. Let livestreaming catch 'em in the act and then you will have all the justification to do whatever it is that you guys can do about the situation. Its just like how people are using cameras to catch the police in the act of overreaching their position. You tape that stuff and put it on the internet for the world to see.
Short duration bans could be a good solution, if caught, if you have the capability.
We don't need a gestapo-esque manhunt on our hands.
Response turned into new thread.

You can't ban or black list by stream: What if i were to smurf you and troll a mother lord of ass licking topics?
hey I was going to do that. don't fault sareth for not thinking ahead, he means well, there is just only so much you can think about with a 70 IQ.
lol! So by your claims you are arguing with a moron. Way to make yourself seem intelligent Star.
You can always socially blacklist people. Then again the antisocial are the ones smurfing. Getting records of this behavior will naturally start to show everyone their true colors.
I've lost patience with not naming people now - definitely adding Kbroke on that list - too many times now he's dragged games out and refused to quit when his whole team has left. He maxes out mines to make the game lag, goes afk, refuses to answer, and hopes a mini-dump will "save him".
I'm pretty sure everyone will agree with you, Ekko...if we can just spread the word and tell hosts what he'll do, he may get kicked enough to learn a lesson...
I don't play multiplayer and have no interest, but I have a idea.
What if Stardock instituted a timer on multiplayer games that would be agreed upon before play starts?( could this be done)
Lets say game starts with a 90 minute(30,60,90,120) count down and when one of the winning paramaters are met..winner!
Who wins when the time limit runs out? People want a winner and a loser, they don't want ties (in fact the ability to tie would encourage even more trolling) so you have to somehow have a winner...I suppose you could use a stat (like most planets) but such a stat really isn't indicative of who may be "winning"...
Most planets:
Most Capital ships:
Most money:
Most damage/taken given:
Like I said I dont play multiplayer just trying to help you guys out.....
Your dealing with people and people will always try to cheat.
That"s the reason I don't allow people to ruin my enjoyment of this game(Single player only).
I can't speak for everyone who plays MP but I think it speaks volumes for how much more enjoyable it is than SP that I'm willing to deal with trolls, crashes/mini-dumps, and sometimes long wait times for games rather than play SP as an alternative. I'm honestly not trying to diss you for you playing it - I mean this more in that I wish I could enjoy SP as much because it would be a relief in some ways but it's just way too sterile and boring compared to MP, even with all its hang-ups. Civ 5, Endless Space, Shogun II, I'll happily just stick to SP because they have waaay more depth in SP but for Sins I need to play vs. real people for some fast paced adrenaline pumping competition.
Indeed, sins is good enough that I've played it for years. No other RTS/RT4x has ever held my rapt attention for longer then 6 months.
Dreaming of a better ICO that attracts more players to multiplayer...
In unreal tournament 2004 on the TAM mode online there was an idle Kick feature where after 30 seconds of a player being idle there were drained of their health in intervals until they died and in some features got kicked out of the server.
Put an idle time on players for 4 mins without commands so it would be best if people go take shit before hand.
I'm also not a fan of communist empires that dictate who is what and who gets a social ban. I think you people play too much vasari until there slavery and dictatorship way of doing things has you all confused.
Never ban a player for being idle, for being unresponsive and a bad teammate.
If theres no 1 else left to fill a slot for your team them let them play because everybody should get the chance to play the game.
In all honesty if you think about it then you will realise that the course of events of the game will eventually balance the game in the long run. What i mean by this is people you want to ban or kick will either smurf and be better players, won't get chosen by certain teams and will evolve as the game ages. The biggest problem is the type of game lobbies and the type of games you all play. While starcraft has more 1v1 spotlights, sins seems to enjoy the team games. If you change towards smaller teams then the game will become more evolved and each member will be pressured into doing there part--each member will be watched more closely by the community as a whole.
Leave the social banning and blah blah on automatic gearing. You don't need to manual that shit.
Dude do you have a life? It's just a game!
This has been made over four months. So yes I do.
Voicing my support for this idea. I'm so borderline about whether to really get into MP because of bad experiences with people online. Unlike a MP game like Starcraft, an immature person and/or troll has the power to RUIN your experience in Sins. In most games, you can just ignore their chat and play with your head down, but the matchmaking, team play, and victory conditions of Sins gives the bad guys much more power.
I always laugh when people accuse their fellow internet-gamer nerds of not "having a life." Dude, you are posting on a forum about a spaceship game...just like the rest of us. In fact, the more of a life WarneverChanges has, the more important it becomes that he maximizes his fun when he plays Sins. It's the person without a life that doesn't care about their time being wasted by a troll...
Thank you...someone here understands...
This seems like the appropriate thread to talk about a funny game I just had. JakeMac, reputed nephew of HuyMac, was claiming AL are OP due to his uncle teaching him that Suppression reduces incoming damage by ~50%. Due to AR Wail, this group of 10 intrepid players was allowing VR. Harla was the VR player on the other team so I thought, why not, I've never even played Vasari period online so this seems like a good time to start. I'll admit my nearest 2 opponents were both noobs so I wasn't pressured much but I got a jumping starbase online in under 30 minutes - probably not optimal but I figured not bad for first time. I used it to rescue an ally and then had a normal one holding a chokepoint. I felt like I was playing a DOTA game. Jake was the last to quit and he did manage to kill my SB using 100 disciples and his own level 2 Titan vs. my SB alone thereby proclaiming VR starbases are not OP. The End.
someone just got karma .
So, although you admit that you were playing below optimal, that you were not under pressure, and that the starbase was killable, you somehow arrive at the conclusion that VR starbases are not OP?
Playing against skilled players its still going to be OP, if you want to curb stomp some noobs with VR and snatch an easy win be my guest, but its no way to try to balance a game by negating most of the player skill to come up with balance areas that need work.
Just because a starbase is killable doesn't make it balanced, so the cornerstone of your argument falls apart right there with that bit of logic.
I also find the logic behind the thinking for this game funny...
Jake made the claim that VR SBs are not OP...Ekko is merely sharing Jake's mystical insight with us all....
But more importantly...
SARETH AND EKKO AGREE
Yes, thats why I used the word "also".
It's used in the context above to show that "I ALSO find the logic behind the thinking for this game funny..."
Really sel, a reading comprehension moment for you?
Congratulations.
Sareth you are really being a little prick on the forums lately. Please fix the attitude, thank you.
ooloo is the one I'm blacklisting myself.
He is WAY too cocky. Every game he insta AFKs, always let's people wait for 10 minutes or so. Always whines about stacked teams. If he feels even a little behind when teams are picked he will scream and rage. If he gets doubled, because "I always get doubled because I'm too good", he insta leaves. I mean he is absurdly good, but I feel like he knows it a little too much and people have been sucking his cock too much.
The daybefore yesterday we had a game going. Ooloo felt it was stacked to his disadvantage. He suicided his capital and left the game.
From that moment on, I am not playing with him again untill he improves his behaviour. I hope others will try to put a strain on him as well so he get's a little less cocky.
If the MP community adopted a maximum time limit for games and decided on what constitutes a victory when it is reached. Why should StarClad have to determine who wins and what is 'trolling' or even consider a list of 'poor sports'?
MP community picks 5 key elements and awards a point to the player/team with the most points.
1 point for highest economy
1 point for most planets
1 point for largest fleet
etc.... there's a ton of stuff.
Let the MP community figure this stuff out, but can a timed game option be there to stop wanderers and runners?
