Mentor/Mentee Multiplayer Matches (MMMM...)
So I had this idea. Which I totally stole from other MP game communities. But it's a good ideaworth stealing. The MP community in Sins is like that grass you see pushing up out of the concrete. It wasn't really supposed to be there, but it's kind of stubbornly persisted and waxed and waned, sometimessprayed with weed killer of bad balance or neglect and sometimes bouyed up with sunshine and rain of devpatches and forum initiatives.
I remember when I first started playing Sins MP back when vanilla Sins came out. UE Carbon was organizing a tournament. I remember playing one game. The rest of the players never connected with their opponents, apathy set in,and the tournament fizzled. I played just a little in Entrenchment, not at all in Diplomacy, and then came back for Rebellion.I don't think I really grasped the game all that well until Rebellion - I've easily played more in Rebellion than I ever didin vanilla-Entrenchment combined.
I want to see how much interest there is for a MP forum mentor-mentee initiative. Mentor would be someone who knows the game well enough to teach a beginner. Mentee should be obvious. Mentor doesn't have to be a "pro" or expert. Just have a decent enough understanding to help bring a mentee up to speed in playing online. I see this as a good opportunity for new players in Rebellion or long time SP players who have dabbled in MP and want to get better and participate in it. If enough people are interested, it's a chance to increase the number of players online and get more games going. We could even organize some mentor/mentee 2v2 matches and see who's imparted their skills the best. Mentees don't have to all be total noobs either - maybe some are at an average-ish level already online but want to up their game in specific ways.
So, I'm just testing the water first to see who is interested. If you are, please post below with the following:
1. Mentor or mentee2. Estimated skill level online (beginner, semi-competent, average, above average, skilled, pro)3. Time zone 4. Times usually available to play5. What you are interested in teaching/learning (eg. maybe all the basics, maybe a specific race, maybe eco slot or suicide slot specifically, etc. or just anything goes)6. Steam name
If there's enough interest, we can use this thread to connect mentor/mentee. Sometimes as a mentor it helps to watch a replay first of the mentee playing to get an idea of where they're at. I'm expecting semi-apathy/feeble interest but like the game enough to try anyway and see what happens. Remember this is for online play which generally means fastest settings and pirates off.
Mentorabove average/sometimes skilled when I'm not too sleepyPST (GMT -8)most weeknights 8-11 PM and weekends could be all day or not at all, depending. Can teach anything Advent related Manjushri
REPLAYS:
By default, your MP replays can be found in the AutoRecord-Multiplayer folder of your Sins Rebellion folder (which itself is inside IronClad Games folder). You can turn on Auto-Record inside your in-game options to capture them. To download and watch replays, follow these instructions:
https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/430699
Feel free to add any replays you'd like advice on by posting in this thread with a link to the uploaded file (if not sure how to do this, just ask or check the free file share websites people use in threads like this: https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/430829).
MentorSkilled (Zombie will disagree, but he has a habit of catching me on my off games)CSTSome weeknights 6-11 PM, some weekends (anytime on those)Expansion and eco play are by far my two best areas...great with AR, AL, and TR...Vasari, not so much even if they are OP...Seleuceia
Mentee
PST, on a ton. Im usually an agressive player in most RTS games. Add me or pm if your down to help / play!
in game name = Exhale
Exfleet - please add how you'd rate your skill level and what you're interested in learning from a mentor. Opening game? All races? Economy? All of the above? Cheers.
pretty much everything. I havent selected a race i feel will benefit me best yet, i could use eco help as well as ship composition. 1-10 id say my skill is about a 4 or so.
I'd be interested in this as a mentee
1. mentee
2. semi-competent (lots of SP and small LAN experience, usually play either TEC or occasionally VL)
3. GMT
4. somewhere after 18:00 gmt
5. mostly early game starts
6. Steam name same as this
I've added ExFleet and will try and get some games with him - probably 1 is all I have time for at the moment. Hopefully more mentors will step forward?
Exfleet - do you have any saved games you'd be able to upload and link? Just so I can see what you're doing in games at the moment? I'll have time this Friday night and on the weekend to play - and you're PST too so should be easy to meet up.
i havent saved any reps, doesn't cross my mind when i play like shit
The replays save automatically if you have that checked in your options. You can find them in your Documents-IronClad Games-Sins-Autorecord Multiplayer by default. But no worries if you don't. By the way, in my post above I meant time for 1 mentee, not time for just 1 game lol. We can try a 2v2 vs. Hard AI to start maybe. Then a 1v1. Eco and ship composition should easily show up in those...
Mentee/Mentor. I could teah someone who's really new, but I'd really rather learn from somebody who's really good.
Average
EST
Weekdays are kinda sketchy for me now, but most Saturday evenings and all day Sunday, although advane coordination would be best.
I can teach up to my level of skill with TEC. I personally prefer rebels, but I could do either. As such, I'd like to learn how to be excellent with TEC Rebel. Specifically I guess I need to work on Micro, late game macro, and counters to common strategies by other races. I don't require much attention though, really I just want to see how a skilled player plays and figure it out from there.
Steam Name: Intenso
I'd be interested in this! I've been playing since vanilla Sins, but I've only ever played against AI due to my love of playing enormous maps, which mean super long games
1. Mentee2. Beginner. Can generally beat Hard AI players if this gives a better idea of my skill3. GMT +1 (British Summer Time)4. Evenings here, or most times at the weekends5. I'd be interested to hear if there are good build orders? Not really sure how best to start! I play mostly as Advent for fun, but I play the other two as well probably (which is to say equally poorly)6. graemewinston
Mentor role was assumed by many of us that call ourself skilled.
Problem wasn't with us problem was with players that we tried to teach.
They didn't want to be taught, or they had just in spite I wont do what you say attitude, some became downright hostile, some were screaming feed me and didn't listen to advices and few that did listen to advice either stick long enough to became skilled
I saw MMMM in the title. Where's the cake?
A shame this attitude still persists with some noobs even today...
The point of this thread though is to only accept players who are already interested in learning and taking advice - it isn't about just trying to direct noobs when they're on your team in a 5v5 - I've also found that situation hopeless. But why would a new player sign up here as a mentee looking for advice and then get all hostile?
In any case, it hasn't been that successful so far - I've added ExFleet here and I was on ICO a lot over the weekend but never heard from him. So, if you are a new player and aren't into hostile screaming, feel free to add me if you want some practice games to work on stuff.

Hi thedreamon - just quoting myself as a reply to your post. It looks like you are from Turkey? In which case your 9PM is not mine (Pacific coast Canada) so it might be hard to meet up but if you see me on ICO feel free to message me and if I'm free and idling, we can always do a 2v2 vs AI and I'll see what there is I can help you with.
1 - Mentor 2 - Skilled3 - +1 GMT (Central European time) 4 - Depends on how I work but I'm usually online everyday during a time or another5 - I'm up for anything tho I favor advent or Tec over vasari but I got some playtime with Vasari aswell. 6 - King_Of_spadez @ steam. Red`Ruby On Ico

Cool - that makes 4 people so far willing to teach the finer aspects of MP games. Has anyone actually heard from a mentee though? I've added one but he's never on anymore...maybe just not enough newish players even visit the forums or they just want to keep it cashualll...
