So I preordered TPM: 2012 and after reading the tutorial and hours of gameplay, Im still not sure how giving speeches work. I mean Is it random and you just try your luck on a topic that a state prefers or opposes? Example I go to CA to give a speech on supporting Reducing Deficit. Now Everyone is all for it and Ive got thumbs up for all parties in the state but my results are 0%? Same thing happens sometimes if my party and the independents only agree. Sometimes i get 1-4% but most of the time like midway in the campaign no matter what I do I dont gain anything. Another thing is It says im losing in a state when I have 100% awareness and I have 1458 Issue score and my opponent has a 840 Issue score. Is it just me or Is there something wrong here? Help or clarification would be greatly appreciated.
I have the exact same issue. About half way into the election I'll find that my speech goes from 1-3% to always resulting in 0%. Is this a bug or is this a mechanic that just isn't really explained?
You guys have to switch up issues; the voters get tired of the same issues. You can't give 10 speeches on lowering the gas price and expect the same results. I'll challenge any of you guys to multiplayer game?
Speeches give the biggest benefit early on as awarness boosts are one of their main effects. If you use them late game in states where you already have 100% awareness, it is much less likely you'll get a significant bump in voters from a speech. Also, as jeremiahj13 said, switching up the issues is critical.
Very helpful, thanks.
See, I also tried switching up the issues though, So I guess its more of an awareness thing. So Ads is what you do when you make money but If you make ads on what you gave speeches on does it have less of an effect? I mean you could easily go through and nail just about every topic that that state cares about by the time you pick your running mate so.
Yeah, awareness is definitely the biggest effect. Switching up issues is just a way to maximize the effect of the speech.
I typically use speeches late-game to quickly boost awareness ignored states that are leaning towards my opponent. It's a good way to steal a few states they were taking for granted.
