Just picked up Sins Reb, and straight out of the box, the game is not for the faint at heart. Deep, unforgiving, and totally awesome! I spent some time reading various strat guides, and after a couple of paragraphs, all I'm getting is blah, blah, blah. Which is what I would expect when you combine multi-layered game and shallow intellect

The best thing you can do is read the guides.. though so may be out dated.. but on the whole it's best to learn the history of the game through the guides, it'll give you an insight into current balances and why things are as they are.
Just play games, don't expect to win. Turn auto record matches on so you can watch players who beat you, copy them and most importantly. Understand why they do things.

In all seriousness though, I was getting fed up with the new players who come in and complain because they can't figure out how to deal with something so obviously it must be horribly unbalanced.. Seeing someone who actually tries to learn what they should do is a breath of fresh air.
