I for one just love having to log into steam every time I want to run Dev.exe .
well, that's all from this side of the wormhole.
You never have to truly deal with Origin when you buy the game aside from purchasing. After that, remove and use some removal tools to get rid of all its garbage and you never have to deal with it again. Even if you have to redownload the game.
Your probaby right on the chances of needing to deal with them in the future, but just having dealt with them once was such a toxic experience that I'd rather miss out on a product than ever risk that chance of needing actual support from them (Which has actually concerned the manager of my local EB Games, considering the amount I spend on computer games every year).
Just one small f***up can ruin a company's reputation with customers forever.
I was going to purchase Sins Rebellion, until I saw that Steam is required. I just uninstalled all the games that require it, and got rid of steam. Not a fan of steam, no sir.
Well once I figured out hoe to play in offline mode it was fine, though its really annoying when I'm trying to reverse tab through my fleet ships to give upgrades or whatnot and the steam window pops up.
Now the Gamestop (formerly impulse) downloader was a mystery. What good is it if I buy the game through your downloader client just to get a link to go download it from steam?
It's possible to disable this:
1. Open "settings."
2. Select tab #4, "In-Game."
3. Uncheck "enable steam community in-game."
4. Shift-Tab all day long.
cheers
P.S. For anyone trying to enable offline play:
2. Select tab #1, "Account."
3. Uncheck "don't save account credentials on this computer."
4. Play offline all day long.
double cheers
Argh!!! damn you Steam *shakes fist menacingly at vacant sky*
For some unknown and god forsaken reason, my Steam client is now refusing to log into Offline mode, it still logs in to the deflaut Online mode, but can't or won't switch over to Offline mode for any of my games. Plus I only have a crappy mobile boardband ISP with limited data allotment, and I don't have the GB to waste this month. Damn living in regional Australia.
Logged a support ticket, but with the holiday, I bet it'll be a full week before I get a response.
That's it Steam, you're going on the LIST!!!
Ok, Anger receeding, Anger receeding, ANGER RISING!!!, Anger receeding, Anger gone..... for now at least.
ps: this post has nothing to do with the post directly above it, it just me venting over the fact that my steam client is being a $#*!@% to use.
...Last night I was unable to play any of MY games just because I had no internet at the moment, and Steam was unable to connect to the server to start in offline mode. WTF?
I've never been able to get Steam to go into off-line mode when, errm, off-line.
Even tried the trick of removing the blob data and that didn't help.
Now I always run Steam in off-line mode, and only enable on-line mode when checking for something new.
That happens to me occasionally; for some reason offline play is periodically disabled, and it's impossible to login to revert the changes.
Here's another gripe about steam: when login fails you are told to visit "www.steampowered.com."
Type that address though, and Steam redirects you to "store.steampowered.com."
That's right. When their service fails and you go looking for support on their website, they try to sell you more shit.
It reminds me of a far side cartoon: in the background is a broken window, in the foreground is a brick with the following note tied to it: "Brick thrown through your window? Call Ed's Glass 555-5555."
I've had viruses on my computer less obnoxious than steam.
Offline Mode. Sucks. You have to be Online to be go Offline. The hell?
Just like you have to be online to create account
As long as your login is saved in Steam client, you can open Steam in offline mode.
I'm afraid I have to disagree here.
I, and others it seems, can only go offline when connected - even with credentials cached locally on the client.
If your connection goes down while Steam is in online mode you're stuck - not good!
If you have the "store credentials" box checked, Steam will place some authentication information on your computer each time you start in online mode. You can restart in offline mode as long as that authentication is valid. It will expire eventually based on the length of time you've been offline and the number of times you've started the Steam client, but if you connect at least once a month it should never time out. What happens a lot more often is that a bad internet connection fails midway through the logon process, which also wipes the authentication. After this, you can't start Steam again without working internet.
What worked for me is to use the "Go Online"/"Go Offline" menu options instead of relying on Steam to fail over to offline mode. I haven't had any downtime since getting in the habit.
