I am playing an AI game on the 2nd hardest difficulty, with one of each type of player, with me being TEC Rebel. I am 4 hours in. Own 55% of the galaxy, have almost all of the tech, a fleet with a titan (level 6) and ALL of the capital ships (level 5-7 each). When even the Vasari Rebel attacks me, I spank him. The TEC Loyalist and Vasari Loyalist rarely come around. The Advent Rebel died a while back, not sure who offed him.
But then I get to the Advent Loyalist... This is where the wheels come off the cart. Around hour 1 in the game, he took 1 planet from me. On his second planet that he tried to take, all of my defenses (including a fully beefed out starbase), and his fleet died. So it was down to his titan (level 8) and me rotating capital ships back and forth from the next system over (to get repaired). I eventually gummed the thing to death. Since this was earlier in the game, I thought, "Wow, I need to upgrade my damage, cuz that thing just won't die". So I avoid him till I finish off the offensive tech tree.
The next time I encounter the beast was when I was trying to retake the world I lost. My titan, all the Cap ships, and about 25 Flak frigates. He meets me with "The Beast", 3 Cap ships, and about 25 cruisers and 40 frigates. He has a starbase in the system. The main defenses he has up are hangers, sans why I brought all the flak. I am trying to fight him at the at the far edge of the system, to avoid the few turrets he does have.
So "The Beast" comes straight for me, while his fleet tries to flank me. So my titan hits him with his shotgun blast that lowers his armor by 7. Then I attack with everything (except the flak frigates and 12 fighters, who are busy trying to shoot down the tons of enemy fighters and bombers). I throw every special power that I have from each Cap ship. This goes on for 2 minutes and he has barely lose 40% of his shields. Anything else in the game would of been toast. I notice that all of my ships have a 40% damage debuff. Hmm, that seems pretty bad. My ships are starting to get pretty beat up, and I have to send 1 back home. I then decide to turn everything on to a level 10 Mothership. Might as well kill something before I have to flee. Do I erase it off the face of the galaxy? Nope. So Mom gets -7 armor and everything except the 1 Cap ship I sent home hammering it for over a minute and it's shields are barely down. Are you kidding me?!? I look at the ship and it has some kind of buff called 33% Shared Damage. So apparently, with -40% debuff, and them having this 33% Shared Damage buff, I have hammer the thing with my titan, all but one of my Cap ships, about 30 bombers, and not expect to even scratch the paint on it. Something is very wrong here.
Has anyone else noticed this?
Ion Blast on your Colony Capital to disable capital ability support and some Ceilo with Designate Target (give 40% damage boost on target). You'll want some corvettes in there to use abilitycrippledefense which can give up to 50% physical damage boost (autocannons and missiles, not lasers) on target (5% per ship and stacks up to 10x for 50%).
You also have your Bonus Damage Research done?
Kill the Advent Subjugators -they have that suppression aura that's debuffing you 40%. Nail the Guardians too. Get 20-30 corvettes on that titan if you are focusing fire on it or whatever else you are singling out for destruction, but kill those utility ships, they're nasty.
Helps to read some of the convert data -abilities, buff effects, etc... so you are prepared -somewhat.
Advent Loyalists are actually considered underpowered at the moment- the advent rebels are actually a lot scarier.
That said, here are some tips on fighting them:
1). Go for the mothership from the start- it's mcuh easier to kill then the titan and does a tremendous amount to sustain the rest of the fleet(it has a fleetwide shield regen ability). Also, make sure to interrupt that fleetwide regen buff(it's a channeled ability that makes the mothership shine with a glowing aura for the duration). A fleet with a Ragnarov and plenty of LRF or bombers should be able to dish out enough focusfire to kill a mothership regardless of all the advent fleet defenses.
2). Don't fight major fleet battles inside Advent Loyal Culture. Advent in general(and advent loyals more so) gain massive combat bonuses while inside their own culture. This is not to say you should never fight in their culture(you have to when invading), but try to win battles on neutral ground to thin their ranks before moving onto home ground.
3). Use Carriers/bombers- Many of the advent damage debuffs don't affect strikecraft.
All that said, fighting a late game advent player with a full frontal assault as TEC is a bad idea in general. The Advent are all about fleet synergy, the TEC about a strong economy and a strong early pressure game. Frankly the TEC fleet IS weaker late game, and it's supposed to be. The TEC is supposed to fight a war of attrition, attacking on multiple fronts to divide forces(these tactics capitalize on the TEC"s strong economy and ability to make even small fleets very dangerous with Ogrovs).
The only time a TEC fleet should be attempting a direct late game confrontation is when they have already secured a massive advantage from the early game( which is to say have built a MUCH stronger economy and/or have crippled their opponent's empire with early pressure). If a TEC fleet is about the same size as a late game advent fleet, they're probably at a disadvantage.
Thanks for the help, I haven't tried the Corvettes or the Command Ships. I do have my damage tree maxed. I will take your advice and send some small fleets out with Ogrovs. I will avoid fighting him on his own turf.
I am not feeling like I am dominating economically, even though I own over 1/2 of the galaxy and the rest of it is shared between 4 other players. I have upgraded all the planets, and have a massive trade network. It feels like the AI is getting some big boosts economically on this harder difficulty level. I don't feel like the AI is out playing me, there is something else going on that isn't spelled out. I kill a lot of heavily XPed Cap Ships, but more just keep coming along.
Where can I read these?
I don't know how hard that diffuculty is, since I play on normal atm. But when I Invaded the advent, I had a massive support fleet and capital fleet(4 Kol's, 4 dunov's, ragnarov, 2 marza's, 2 of those colony capitals...forgot their name and 2 capital carriers) and a few flaks/command ships/LRM and pretty much the rest was the heavy cruisers. And with focused fire it is alot of damage that I was doing with a 100 heavy cruisers or so that it was. And the titan's snipe ability does alot of damage as well(I like to get 4 snipe/4 damage/4 health/2 overcharge/4 explosive/2 scatter) and I pretty much raped every enemy I came across. Sure you will lose troops, but you can just rebuild them as you take their planets.
And When I'm hunting for their titans only I usually get a 100 or so corvettes, and usually the enemy titan will run, so just need to get a good blockade on the other side of the phase lanes if he jumps there(I've only tried this technique against a flagship, but a titan should do the same I guess)
Just my experiences so far, I might be totally wrong, or a complete idiot in my tactics, but it works if you got a good enough economy for me atleast, But I play against a weaker enemy(My economy is usually so big even if I would lose my whole army I can rebuild it 10 times after I got more than half of the planets)
Repost due to forums going insane...Damn those gremlings
There is trolling or confusion in this post.
Suppression aura is the Coronata's passive ability and can't be disabled.
A late game advent loyalist/rebel fleet is unstoppable with repulse and projections alone. Never let advent reach this stage because they will debuff any upgrades you get off the research trees-even your economy with culture.
Okay, the 4 Kols is probably a bad idea unless you're facing more than 30 bombers and are utterly sick of them. But the 4 Dunovs is probably the best thing to have in this situation. Seriously, EMP is by far the most effective ability the TEC have to hit advent with. An Advent fleet without shields die quick and without antimatter they can' do much without it. Also get at least 1 level of magnetize so you can shut down shield restore/projection and other channeling abilities.
I know trolling, stop it. yeah, interesting Suppression Aura... looks familiar.
I actually don't use kols for fighting strike craft(Well barely, I just train the skill to lvl 1)...I just like their gauss cannon damage and their tank, especially when supported by dunovs sending shields(I always get shield restore to 4 on all my dunovs, I probaly play the game wrong...)
riddle king why are u changing ur avatar lol every 2 weeks?
It's a riddle, bro.
lol u got me! that was a good one
Thanks for the help, the Command Cruiser Debuff and swarms of Corvettes (after bleeding him off in neutral space) is doing the trick.
I am still 2nd place with Credits, even though I have every planet upgraded, trade posts in all of the safe areas, even using Starbases with 2xTrade Post upgrades in areas that don't have a planet (to bridge the trade route). There is some serious cheating going on at the high difficulties.
I hate to brake it to you, but I don't think the AIs cheating shows up in the economy ranking list. You might be able to see it in "Income from other sources" after the game ends, but I don't think its factored into the in game economy rank.
Or have I got this wrong this whole time?
You have unfortunately let the advent tech up way too much and ur fleet just isn't big enough. That 40% debuff could be from the titan or the corvettes it has, or some other ability I have yet to discover or use. The 33% shared dmg is from the Iconus Guardain cruisers. Advent are flimsy early game, but let them tech up and they become massively more durable due to these ships. Plus, a nummber of their support ships can heal each other, the mothership has AOE shield healing, and the subjugator has hull healing. With ur tiny fleet, its no wonder u got ur butt kicked.
