Its funny as hell, but its so true and incredibly sad all at the same time
The only inaccurate bit is portraying steam like the little tugboat. Steam is a fucking giant, probably a hundred times larger than Origin.
I spent 8 hours in front of a gamestop waiting for Mass Effect 3's midnight release and ever since I beat it, it's been collecting dust on my dresser. I hate you EA. I just.....I hate you.
lol this is pretty creative! i agree with it..
It's like the Umbrella Corporation guys. You're just, "the customer".
Yea, but the point of that was explained in the notes about EA forcing publishers/developers to release games are origin exclusives.
I think Marx would say that EA is a necessary evil on our path to better gaming companies. I say give them enough rope to hang themselves. Eventually they will lose all connection to their fan base. Then the gaming proletariat will rise up and take down the bourgeois EA gaming company. It would only take one game getting zero sales to wreck such a vile thing as EA.
EA has been ruining excellent companies for well over a decade now. And they aren't hanging themselves they are bringing down the entire industry. They are (somehow) more profitable then ever.
Their business model is extremely simple.
1. Buy out a company for well under what it is worth since investors don't valuable video game companies properly.
2. Destroy that company, milking their existing franchises and name for every cent in that process.
3. Profit. (repeat)
I think its important to note that EA is a publicly traded company. It trades as "EA" on NASDAQ and is currently valued at just over $13 a share.
Having to make a profit for their shareholders takes away some of the freedom a privately held company, such as Stardock or Valve, has developing a game. Giving away a free sequel to a game that did not live up to expectations would probably get someone fired at EA.
I think the real people ruining the companies are the very same who started them in the first place. It was their choice to sell out to EA. But who could blame them with the amount of money flying around. It's like a chef who sells his recipe to McDonalds then complains when they streamline it, stripping it of some of it's essence.
Thing is, EA is trading short term profit for long term profit. They overharvest, they destroy companies to wrench every cent from them.
It appears that as a rule, EA can purchase a gaming studio for less money then they can wrench out of it by destroying it in quick money grabs.
McDonalds has been around since 1940 and makes their profit by making each restaurant exceedingly profitable in the long term, which is a completely different business model.
The thing is, there are only so many A studios EA can buy and put their their slash and burn agriculture before running out.
Maybe companies should be selling their studios to EA as a sort of biological process.
1. Get a good team together and make a solid game.
2. Expand a bit and make a few sequels until the franchise has run its course.
3. Evaluate your people and the games you have made. Move all the prime stuff to a new studio with a new name.
4. Sell the low performing employees and antiquated titles to EA for millions.
5. Use that money and your new studio to think of new gaming concepts and continue your art.
EA is essentially the dung beetle of this equation. Hope someone is watching.
Ozymandias? You out there man?
LOL! That was funny as hell
That maniacal laughing, the cliche games and the marketing battleship = EvilArts
Taltamir is right in what he says about EAs businessmodel. It's disgusting (and apparantly effective!)
I wish that EA would be fooled by something like Seanw3s suggestion.
