During United Planets voting, do the other races "remember" if you cast a vote different than theirs? More simply, does it negatively affect their opinion of you? Just wondering if they hold a grudge when things don't go their way.
A second question, which I asked in TotA forum 3 weeks ago, which got 20 views but no answers-- what's the difference between the Random and Cinematic views during the battle resolutions?
Cinematic view is basically just like Random, though possibly it is more picky about which angles it uses and in which order. Always seems to start out with Top Down, from what I remember.
As far as UP votes go, no I don't think the AI factors it into diplomacy if you don't vote their way.
Actually, from what I can tell Cinematic view is a randomized selection of all other views, whereas Random view is genuinely random.
Thanks, I couldn't see any difference between the two views and thought I was missing some distinctive feature. Too bad about the votes, it would make an interesting factor to consider.

You are right, it would make it interesting factor in tech trading and relationships
I always thought that Cinematic was like watching a movie and takes the camera where the action was.
If you have any other questions please ask?

I believe (can't be sure about this) that they do; other races have immediately had "we know what you're doing-" appear in their diplomacy, and relations generally worsening, after I have voted (especially after a "xxx race should distribute a percentage of their treasury amongst the other race" vote).
Not saying it's impossible, but the " - We know what you're doing" message usually means they suspect you of planning to attack.
I've only seen "We know what you're doing" if I'm assembling a fleet near an alien race's border, no matter if it's at a rally point or even one of my own planets for my own protection. Once I even got the message after a race colonized within my own borders. Bunch of paranoid little (s)uckers. Usually they aren't the ones I'm building up against, but the veiled threat succeeds in making them what I consider a legitimate target.
They'll also spawn "we know what you're doing" if your influence is threatening their planetary possessions.
I've always found the UP to be a rather lame aspect to the game...no real teeth and very mundane topics to vote on. If sanctions were stricter, and topics more interesting (how many times can you vote on morale-boosting games???) the UP would be far more useful, IMHO. Lately, I've taken to playing without being a member. Makes for getting the economy off the ground a bit tougher, but if there's multiple minors around I can trade with them.
I've always found it amusing to get the warning to remove my ships from a civs "space" even though their "space" is well within my own civs boundaries. I usually reply to such nonsense with an array of influence bases to "remove" them from my territory, or stick several more fleets in their face.
