Why would you bother to build Vasari Rebel titan? Granted I like that titan. But wait a sec, for the same resource you spent (research, factory and titan), you can build 2 close to fully upgraded Starbase. That is wayyyyyy more powerful than a lvl1 titan. And you can spam those, when you can only build one titan.
Build 3 of them and spam overseers. I just don't see anything can stop you.
But you can't have two starbases pounding at the enemy at the same time.
You CAN, however, have on starbase and one titan pounding at the enemy at the same time.
You can also have a fully upgraded starbase, and another fully upgraded starbase in succession should the other one be destroyed. But the Titan could go with one while you work on the second starbase.
Not to mention the fact that Nano Leech + Gravity Pulse nukes and disables all enemy frigates in range and when you throw in Dissever.. So much death...
The fact is, Titans are moveable firepower that give you great abilities and starbases are just hyped up weapons platforms.
But the VR star bases are moveable as well, thus the nature of this thread.
Not to be Captain Obvious or anything, but you sort of missed the problem. The Vasari Starbase is a moveable weapons platform, and the Vasari Rebels can make it phase jump too.
plus your don't have to level the thing, upgrade is fast and with up to 16 strikecraft... with carriers and overseers. + captial ship like Rankulas Battleship providing support. Jesus....
And only 1800 credits, 275 metal and 150 crystal too, for a fully 8/8 upgraded star base, that only comes to 14600 credits, 2200 metal and 1200 crystal, which is only 5100 credits, 950 metal and 450 crystal MORE than the Titan.
Wait, wasnt the whole point of this to save money?
For titan, you have to build the damn factory first and 4 lvl of research too.
and are you seriously comparing a lvl 1 titan and fully upgraded star base?
You've also got to pay for the Star Base research, as well as the star base contruction itself which is more expensive than a titan factory. Any other special upgrades must also be researched to add further cost.
And no, I'm not compairing a level 1 titan to a fully upgraded starbase, but the titan does not cost you money to level up, unless you lose it, in which case it costs you a lot of money.
Sorry, didn't realize this was only about the vasari rebels.
1 You can level up a titan until it owns starbases.
2 A titan is both faster and has very good fleet-wide abilities that are a must in any battle.
3 You only need to build the factory and research it once
4 Starbases are rather vulnerable against anti-structure cruisers
5 Starbases are rather easy to destroy with bomber spamming (unless you have flak frigates)
6 It would be more effective to use those resources to build corvettes
7 Starbases are vulnerable to multiple kols spamming GRG
8 Starbases cannot disable every single ship in an enemy's fleet
So in conclusion, titans are worthwhile, but only if you can be cautious with them. It's tremendously useful to have a high level titan, but it's not worth it if you lost 4 others before that one.
A titan behind a shield wall of starbases could be very effective, hmmmm...
Quick question, since i've not yet tried out the vasari starbases. How many can you jump into the same gravity well? Can you have multiple attacking a planet at once?
You can have as many as you like in one gravwell, but only one can be active at a time, or so it's supposed to be. Heard there's a bug and they all work.
Even so, it should just be ONE PER GRAVWELL, as stated before, you could have three in a well, and as soon as one gets destroyed, the next comes online and begins kicking butt.
Both Vasari factions seem to have extremely powerful stuff. Hopefully it gets adjusted while we're in Beta.
So, the overall firepower is not increased from having multiple, just the staying power.
That limits their usefulness in combat. you could have 20 starfish with defense vessel escort go right into the middle of them and start laying on the pain.
Personally, i would just get the one starbase, get a titan, then spam caps and frigates. Not bring multiple starbases.
why dont they just make it where you can't jump a starbase to a planet where you already have one? it doesnt make sense for it to sit there like it needs batteries or something
... this post was meant as a complaint of why SB mobilization is stupid OP. If I send 3 fully upgraded SB into your planets. My intention is obviously to finish you off. Not giving you the chance to rebuild and lvl up your titan. And don't tell me you are gonna split up your fleet to deal with my SB simultaneously. It's impossible. If you played the multiplayer mode, the rush is extremely fast. 5-10 mins in the game. You won't have enough fleet to deal with it. Long before you can build a titan.
Off topic: Vasari rebel titan is, of course, extremely valuable. It's the best titan of all factions, IMHO, most importantly because it drains ANTIMATTER. A titan without antimatter is not hard to take down. But this one drains hull, disable ships and practically never out of antimatter. So yeah, I don't care if the Vasari loyalist have the coolest titan or not, vasari rebel has the best titan PERIOD.
Even worse, if you accidentally jump one or more star bases to a planet where there is already another star base, they will be disabled and won't be able to jump back out again until the one that's already there is gone.
Seems it would indeed be much simpler to not allow them to jump to a well where they already have an Orky.
In the post you said it like you were supporting a tactic, not saying they are OP.
Rebel titan is best.
Why would you bother to build one?
You've just survived an early orky rush and want to say "fuck off!"
Seriously, right now who chooses a race other than Vasari rebels anyway? Fuck off is currently a universally useful tactic and everyone makes orkys, so why is it OP if everyone does it?
There should just be an option in the menu allowing you to ban a race if >1/2 of the players vote for it.
It'd be easier to balance probably, if the research allowed Orkulus Starbases to "pack up" like Age of Empires 2's Trebuchets. But I'm not sure if the egame engine allows for animations like that... but it'd have to "pack up" to jump and "unpack" to attack.
Alright, let's have some actual facts here.
First, the Orky phase jump upgrade is a tier 5 military upgrade, so before you can do any of that, you need to build 5 military labs.
68 seconds each, 5 of them, 5 minutes 50 seconds in game and you havent even BEGUN to build your first base, let alone three.
Once that's done, you have to upgrade the phase jump upgrade itself, another 173 seconds.
You are now 8 minutes 43 seconds into the game and you still have not even begun your first star base.
Now it's done, you can, or already have, built your star bases while the upgrade was going. All three of them? I doubt, you've just sunk your entire economy into this project, and you still have to physically FLY the damn things across the map to find and destroy your enemy. Remember, you've only got one minute seventeen seconds to do that to achieve that 5-10 minute rush you talked about. BUT HEY, let's go over the costs of this.
Five military labs, 750 / 60 / 80 each for a total of 3750 credits, 300 metal, 400 crystal.
Then the upgrade for the Orky, 600 / 50 / 100, your total is now at 4350 creds, 350 met, 500 crys
Then the upgrade for the Orky phase jump, 1200 / 200 / 325, total is now 5550 creds, 550 met, 525 crys
Then you have to pay for the three migrators to be turned into bases, 425 / 140 / 50 each, for 1674 / 420 / 150 for the three, your total is now at 7174 creds, 970 met, 675 crys.
Oh but you're not even half done, now you have to pay for the three star bases themsevles to be constructed, at a hefty 2575 / 310 / 325 each, 7725 / 930 / 975 for all three, your total has rocketed to 14 899 creds, 1900 met, 1650 crys.
But let's not forget you're also spending elsewhere, of course, you need ships to colonize, scouts for intel, money to fund colonies, and hey, with all this money going into a star base rush, your economy and military is in the shitter.
Now with all this time and money, your opponent could have three capships and a massive fleet to back them.
They might even be in orbit around your homeworld because you, having spent all your money on star bases, had no defense early enough.
lol, I just had a strange image of the 'ball' separating at the glowy part from the rest of the starbase for the jump after reading that... has some strange analogies: top looks similar to the rebel titan in a way and the separation is like the Enterprise
The orky looks like a tonsil
Now remember, that price detailed above does not even include upgrades for the bases. fully upgrading the bases takes about 43000 credits. And long before you can afford those upgrades i guarantee you it'll be mobbed by starfish.
Yup, forgot to mention the upgrades, the prices already seemed overwhelming.
The obvious answer is invest in one star-bases when you can and move your fleet with it.
DIE BY STARFISH!!!!!! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!
