It looks like the latest patch includes a lot of balancing updates, crash fixes, AI improvements, and miscellaneous tweaks. Awesome. I can't wait to see it. Thanks Ironclad. I want to also salute the ones reporting problems and helpful changes.
The opportunity to beta test is an honor so we should continue to have fun with it, but not forget our mission. I've not been able to find very many issues, but I'll keep digging because I want this to be the best expansion to date. Keep in mind that helping produce the highest quality is not just for us, but for the Sins legacy. In so doing, you and I help protect and promote the reputation of Sins, which will bring in new players and keep the ones we've got.
I've seen a lot of people eager to get their hands on the Vasari. Hang in there. It's going to be great, but don't rush Ironclad. I'd rather they take their time and do it right than release something that isn't ready. After details from Blair's interview, I can see why developing and balancing the Vasari race (especially the unique Vasari Loyalists) is no small task.
Normally I don't hop into betas but I thought I'd give this one a shot. The ability to influence the end game has been pretty impressive, which I attribute to Stardock / ironclad. Besides the announcement of the Vasari being released soon, I felt it was close anyway despite people mentioning the 1 race per month coincidence. The last 2 or 3 patches have pro dominantly been fixes / optimization's, now that the 2 races are pretty stable I figured the last race going to get brought in soon. I think the ICO community has grown significantly, but that I attribute mostly to steam. Lastly I see the game maintaining a decent sized community until sins 2 because of how friendly and willing to help older and experienced players are now. I was completely turned off to online play because of how rude and exploitive a lot of players were to inexperienced multiplayers in the past.
Cheers
It's really starting to bother me how they talk up the "behemoth titans" that according to Blair here can take on a fleet. The TEC's Titan sure... but the Advent Titans? meh.
The Advent Titans need a support fleet to work its magic. It doesn't need a very large one though. The Advent Rebels can hold its own once you get a few levels on it. The Advent loyalists can do the same but it's ment for support.
The Advent Rebel Titan doesn't even NEED a supporting fleet. It makes it's own when it kills them. I can go into a pirate base with the Rebel Titan at level 5, level the ENTIRE pirate defense force in 45 seconds, and gain two levels.
If you attack me with my 76% shield mitigation, good luck. I took down three solar systems with 2 SBs with RBs, two waves of pirate attacks heading to those planets, AND blew up his fleet. ALONE.
I'm actually discouraged with how OP Titan Rebel Advents are.
Don't worry, the adjusted the Vasari along the other patches. The Loyalists look ready in 0.90, I will look into the rebels on sunday.
Btw, both Vasari Titans and Tech titans can be parked in a pirate base for leveling as well though the VRT has a much easier time with his 20HP per second drain for all enemy ships in range. Try kill this one with hundreds of HP and AM drained per second... It usually leaves the gravity wells without shields but full HP.
Now, I consider this somehow strange.
First, we paid in advance to get into the beta.
Second, it's not by any means a honour, because in life there are many, many more important things than gaming.
Third, it is not a mission, but an activity we accepted under certain conditions.
Fourth, eagerness is normal, as much as this is and remains a game.
So, if one has gaming as a goal in life, I am sure he will consider this all very important. There may certainly be other explanations of course. But maybe, if this is not the case, the original post may appear as somehow "too diplomatic" towards developers.
They do a good job, we do what we have paid for, and provide feedback according to the more important schedules of our lives.
I'm sorry, 137, that my message rubbed you the wrong way. Yes, we did pay in advance to get the beta. And for me, personally, it is an honor to participate in the development of this game. It's not my life's work nor is it the honor of a lifetime, but it is something that I enjoy given my passion for the game. There are indeed more important things than Sins of a Solar Empire and gaming. I get the feeling that my message made me appear to you as someone without any goals in life. Nothing could be further from the truth, my friend. You have no idea what I have on my plate right now. You are a fan of Sins, but you recognize Sins for what it is - entertainment. Me too. I love the game, but it is just a game... an outlet. I paid for the beta to test it (and to get a peek) so it is my mission or goal to help improve the game when I have time. For those who don't see it as an honor, that's okay. I have friends I play with and they don't feel the same way. This message is meant for those who do.
Your comment didn't rub me the wrong way, but let us for a moment suppose that it did.
Imagine that I said: "Spending time playing this game for playtesting after paying 30$ is a honor, although currently there are people who don't have the money needed to buy their food".
Or that I said: "Spending time playing this game for playtesting after paying 30$ is a honor, although in this moment people are dieing in real wars in other parts of the world".
Or finally: "Spending time playing this game for playtesting after paying 30$ is a honor, even though there are many terminally ill people currently, who certainly cannot spend their time this way".
With the second part of the sentence, the sentence looks a bit strange, don't you think? Of course, it was a comment intended to be positive and task-oriented, but really it wasn't. The correct term maybe is privilege, not honor.
As such, your real life and what you have boiling is irrelevant. The comment is a bit strange.
@137 did you come to these forums to just flame people for no real reason? Also the dollar sign comes before the number, like this: $10. As soon as I saw that in your post, I lost all respect for what you had to say. That goes for anyone who puts the dollar sign after the number.
Back to topic.
I look forward to testing the Vasari as most of my friends like them (while I like the TEC). Hopefully they will bring something special to the table for team games. Once all 6 factions are in the game, then the real balancing can begin
P.S. Thanks for the link with the info.
Well, that's an interesting question. Perhaps, you might say. Or perhaps I tend to be critical to strange assertions. Generally, people tend to make a lot of those, without worrying of consequences.
I don't use dollars, so that's the reason why.
Im not sure whats wrong with 137, but im happy with the beta.
Sure, sure.
The truth is that we are all, more or less, happy with the beta, but we could be happier, to different degrees. Invitations to positive conformity are a bit silly, aren't they?
I read my post and your response (the quote above) to several people for objective feedback (most of whom don't even play Sins) and they laughed. From the outside looking in, your response looks pretty strange, but I actually ended up defending you because I understand where you're coming from. One person I talked to suggested I respond with, "Dude, you're an idiot. I just like the game." But I don't see you as an idiot. I see you as someone who cares about the world and has a strong opinion of honor. That's awesome. I too care about the world and share that strong opinion - especially when it comes to respect and loyalty.
I once met the author, Terry Brooks, who I have a lot of respect for and I told him that it was an honor to meet him. There have been other times I've used that phrase to describe something that I'm especially thankful for. However, if it helps, substitute the word "honor" in my post with the word "priviledge" and you will read my message as it was meant to be read.
I've seen this happen on other forums. One person says something that offends or elicits criticsm and it turns into a pretty heated discussion, more people jump in, it gets worse, and the spirit of the original message is lost. I have no issue with you and I'm sorry that how I worded my feelings about this beta came across wrong. I'm going to return us to the topic and if you still have concerns with me then I'd be happy to talk to you about those concerns privately. Just send me a message.
+1 for meh trolling
I did not know that. Wow.
@Dinochimp: You're welcome (for the link). I also prefer TEC, but hope to get good with all three races. I love the challenges in SSE and the new Vasari will add another dimension of strategy.
@Rovert and Fyrstar: Regarding your thoughts on the Advent Titans - are your thoughts still true after the changes they made in the recent patch? It looks like the Loyalist's Coronata Titan and Rebel's Eradica had a lot of changes to balance.
Inform high command, under attack from TROLL$ in sector 137, sir!
This was uncalled for. There brains are merely in a state of desync.
It may as well be a wonderful way of saying, "you're a troll, but oh well".
Not true, but the response is sensible enough nonetheless, not because of the praise (true or false), which is unimportant, nor because of your looking for objective opinions, which would be wonderful if they existed but are not of this world, but because the meaning somehow passed. Actually, there's no reason to feel sorry (truly or not) about how you worded your original post, because the criticism was not intended to make you feel sorry, it was intended to say that:
1) people who don't like the fact that vasari are not yet in the game are expressing their opinion, to which they have right.
2) you won't encourage them not to do so citing "honor" because honor has nothing to do with testing games.
As for the general reaction, I have learned one thing in life: the more people think something, the more it is likely to be false. Which, besides, is a statistical truth every first year university student of any course where there is statistics might tell, if he is just a bit smart.
I agree, they have a right - no one said they shouldn't.
I will continue this conversation with you privately.
It is not privilege either, you dont pay for privileges.
You guys are trying to cross cultural divides and language barriers and not quite making it. I will give you an A for effort though.
Yes, that was after last night's nightly butt whoopin of my son=D
I am still pretty certain. Sure they have changed a bit but their overall roles and capiblities havn't been drastically changed.
I love the game, not sure why some people are pulling apart the OP though. I guess the way i read it was to not pressure the producers to produce something half complete and just be patient. I could be wrong, and if the OP find's it an honor to test in the beta so be it, other's might not feel the same way, that's no reason pick apart the OP.. Such is internet forums though.I for one look forward to the inevitable release of the Vasari
