I don't know if I'm the only one who's been having this problem, but i've been trying to use the TEC Capital ship with the boarding ability, but have never captured an enemy ship. I know you have to activate it and board them near death, and the description says, if they die while boarded, you capture them and they are repaired partially, I've tried it on Pirates, Neutrals, Players, and Computers in multiple games but it has never worked, is this a bug or what?
Not sure. I don't use that capital ship because it's ugly and just as ineffective as you describe. On Tuesday I played a small game and was repeatedly attacked by pirates. The Crosev consistently captured pirate ships when they were attacking one of my planets. I wound up with 2 to 3 light pirate ships. The boarding ability did not appear to work against the heavier pirate ships. I've read on this forum that it's not intended to work in unfriendly gravity wells.
Allow it to autocast and it should work. I've rarely seen it fail until the ship is destroyed by something other than the Boarding Party effect (i.e., if the ship dies to weapon damage first, it will not convert).
Um, are you sure that's a good idea? This capitalship requires a ridiculous amount of micromanagement as it is, if we can't even be sure its signature ability on which most of the others are based on will work unless we order our ships to then pick another target, its just not worth using.
that doesnt seem right. If it is under the effect of an effect... and the effect notes when the ship dies... shouldnt it... go off no matter how the thing dies?
if it doesnt, its a bug. and should be fixed.
Thats kind of dumb :/
Commander Shepard knows that feeling.
I think what he is saying if the ship blows up, while having boarding party, the ship blows up and you do not get the ship. The amount of micromanagement for what ability is not worth its cost. You balance a game around balance, not realism.
Worst ship and techs in game.
While I do see it work on autocast, I actually didn't realize that the ship had to be "killed" by the ability and if another weapon did it, the capture wouldn't work. Since it sometimes sends the boarding party at ships with full health, it won't capture them every time.
So I've been focusing some fire on ships I want and trying to send the boarding party at the right time but they've just been blowing up. I may see if I can then have them focus on something else when I use the ability to ensure a reliable capture for testing purposes.
I do get that there should be some limitation, because the Rapture can reliably capture ships with it's level 6 ability. The Corsev shouldn't be able to do exactly the same thing right off the bat.
(I also wonder if it would be possible to make the ship look thicker and beefier like the other TEC ships. I think that would be sufficient.)
i took the corsev out again last night. tried micro-ing differently and didn't get anything. I left it on autocast the rest of the game and didn't get anything.
It doesn't immediately launch boarding parties at healthy ships like I've seen, but at level 1 it didn't seem like the 35 dps on the targets infocard lasted for the full 10 seconds.
Hi guys!
I posted the same some days ago and tried a lot of times since than!
Before the latest two updates I captured every kind of frigate and cruiser (except heavy contructor)! I shot the ships down to 150 to 200 hull and boarded them under fire from two capital ships and one fighter squad.
Since beta 2 I tried everything and weren´t able to conquer one ship..........................
(see my other post on this subject)
I tried what you suggested but it didn´t work!
Maybe the boarding ability could also put a buff on the target that lowers its auto-targeting priority?
Eilaris, that's a good idea! I mean, it makes sense that when it launches it's boarding pods it would announce that fact to the rest of the fleet. Otherwise, who would ever want to be one of those guys being launched if you're msot likely going to die to friendly fire when you go? If the boarding party fails, then the buff goes away. I like this idea alot!
I agree, and moreover, since it is rather difficult to control the "degree" that when to stop shooting at the target, therefore it makes the ability totally useless. Such a "single target damage" ability is just ignorable in late game.
But the reply can explain why always I just got some small ships, like constructors and trade ships.
This capital ship doesn't need to be fixed.
It needs to be scrapped and hit the reset button, it's ugly, techs suck, why would anyone use it?
It TEC
How about a capital ship that protects its trade ships? Or hunts down others and "checks" it's cargo for contraband?
Increases ship production?
Mobile ship factory?
Has a variation of the pull up to it and blow structures to smithereens like the TEC scout ship?
Well it was actually pretty useful when it could actually capture structures. Also why don't you actually give constructive advice on how to buff the thing rather than just give this rant?
When I created this post i had always manually used this ability, while using this ship by itself and just before firing pod told the ship to target something else, on more than twenty occasions it still did not work, while paying attention to every detail. With most of their abilities being boarding affected, almost all of this ships abilities are severley limited, and ship is ineffective, not to mention not that great to look at.
Bottom line, I agree with reply #17, it needs to be scrapped or extremely revamped to catch up with other faction's new capital ships.
Constructive Rant?
A ship that benefits from my other ships getting blown up is just not fun to me.
I think the techs on this shp are very uninspired.
OT but rebels and loyalist should have gotten different capitals. IMHO
