Some of them sound like whiney 10 year olds who were told "YOU CAN'T HAVE ICE CREAM," or worse---they sound bitter and angry because they went with the man in the ice cream truck.
Some of the new ones are. The Discord battleship, while an awesome ships, gets on my nerves if its always the unit that gets selected first.
I personally can't stand the voices of the Loyalist Corvettes... It makes me feel like being the emoticon on the right when I build a lot of them:
lol I happen to like them
Some of the older Advent voices sound the best in the game (which isn't saying a lot - the voice acting is pretty B-movie like overall) but the new ones on the corvettes are like anime rejects. The TEC voices and lines crack me up sometimes with how cheesy they are: "Secure the passengers!"
Yeah, the voice acting is badly scripted. I would like to have an option for "informative radio chatter" instead of exact cheesy command-related one-liners. If the game works right and the player can depend on that the command interface and units do what the player wants them to do, there is no need to tell the player that "now we are attacking the ship you just clicked by telling that WE ARE ATTACKING!".
Sci-fi feeling tends to vanish when stupid sounding people say stupid things.
my fav Advent voiceover is the Discord´s: ..."die! DIE!!!!"
The Purge Vessel's captain wants a word with you, OP.
I dunno, some of the quotes are quite memorable. Not in Rebellion yet, but the Vasari had some fantastic voice acting.
"Searching a planet has NOT FOUND ANYTHING!!!" *seething rage, about to push the button to blow the stupid Vasari scavangers who wasted the empire's money to smithereens*
My ears! They burn!!!
I thought some of the alerts for Advent are really well done.
"Heathens are attacking our flagship!" - sounds legitimately scandalized.
"We have almost completed a groundbreaking project." - sounds smug and self-satisfied.
The main issues with corvette build announcements are that they get played so frequently and are relatively high-pitched. Lower the pitch and/or reduce the frequency and they'd be fine.
Sins is a serious strategy game. But not too serious. I like some of those "cheesy one liners" and things like space ponies just to break up all the planet nuking sometimes. When they do it well like with the new space pirate voices its great.
Advent corvette sounds like a whiney preteen attempting to sound badass. Agreed that it's too high-pitched.
No, I know, I wasn't meaning to be too hard on the voicework overall, I've come to appreciate the cheesy TEC lines in a sort of nostalgic old school sci-fi way. I really hope for all the corvettes though that they re-think the way the line triggers each and every time. Maybe there's a short, alternate line that could be used for when building past a certain number?
Yes! The Advent already were a bit anoying to start with, but the newest ships are so much worse. Maby as a secret wepon for the advent you can have it so that your opponants hear them intstead of you. I think even an AI would rage quit .
Might solve the problem of the advent being so weak
Advent Rebel Corvettes are good though.
I agree. The Advent titans are too angry, OP.
III've got your back.
lol @ cheese comments.
I love playing Advent. I just can't stand the bulk of the voiceovers. Then there's the whole "I'm biulding 80 cruisers" thing. You get a constant repeat of the same line. Over. And over. And over. Thats with any race of course, but I wish there was something to be done to tone down how often it fires off. How about first built and last built.
The Vasari have the best lines... My favorite is the bomber squadron "Deeeeaath from ABOVE!!"
I have to love it when the TEC Rebel Titan responds to an attack order with "Eradicate those filthy rats!". The first time I heard that I couldn't stop laughing.
I get a warm fuzzy feeling from one of the ALT's attack quotes - "Their worlds will burn in the Unity's flames!"
I hope that this does not make me a bad person.
It doesn't. It makes you a bad bird with a drill beak.
My Diggle cousins and I shall smite you.
Also, have some karma. It has been awhile since I last laughed.
The Advent are far from weak my good man =]
that warm feeling is from the heat of their worlds burning in the Unity's flames (and I love that quote too).
while the corvette build notices don't seem as frequent, a potentially easy way to make them less intrusive might be to make their volume lower and overlay some static so its easier to tune out.
i dont mind the Discord's voice, but it may just be a pavlovian response to it's awesome debuffs.
Have to add my name to the "who let an Advent Alvin Chipmunk on the Corvette bridge?" complainer list.
I would hazard a guess that the root cause is that someone recorded those voices in a normal voice and then sped up the audio to raise the pitch, resulting in a squeaky effect that sounds childish.
Ear grating - please fix.
No one panic.
I'm on the case.
