I've noticed that weapons sounds in Rebellion seems to be silenced and are lacking in power
I would love to see them buffed, more diversed, louder especially sounds of armor/shield hit.
I agree.
This is an area the game really needs to shine as you spend a lot of time listening to those sounds and it really adds to the immersion.
Especially the laser sounds could use a tune up, so to speak.
Well you can't really hear any of them from a playing distance. Can't see projectiles either, except beams.
but on some of them the sounds are too high unless the devs fixed it in beta 2 (the tec rebel titan scatter shot sound almost blew my speakers)
I'm a sound designer - you can access some videos of my Fallout: New Vegas soundmod here - and I love the hell out of SoaSE. I'll definitely be picking up Rebellion. If people are dissatisfied with the default audio and there's a user base that would like a sound mod for it, I'd be happy to work on one.
The stipulation that there are people who'd want one isn't a vanity thing, it's a time issue. I've kind of got too many sound projects as it is to start another one purely recreationally. If it'd be useful, I'm all for getting a mod started.
It would help much if they'd just increase the sound range.
So..... I couldn't take it anymore and decided to do something about it.
In another thread I was directed to this: https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/406614/
IskatuMesk has already gone through and remastered several sounds and offers them up for all to use pending credit is referred back to him.
I started to try and create an audio MOD but my meager attempts merely served to crash the game, so I just made a backup copy of the original sound folder and the replaced some sound files one by one. I mostly focused on the gun fire from the capital ships as that is most noticeably lacking.
It still took longer than I thought it would to do just that, so I couldn't imagine having to start from scratch with no sounds.
I can upload to some web space if anyone is interested. It's my first stab at it, but I'm fairly happy with the results so far - that and coupled with hardware audio acceleration and this game is finally starting to sound good.
There is a bug where enabling mods in game always causes a crash, even if you don't change anything. You have to manually edit the enabledmods.txt file in your mod folder to get it to load. If all you do is replace sound effects it should never crash the game by fault of your own.
There was another Sound mod that came out early in Sins' life, I think DS or some of the other mods still have it in them.
Thanks!
After googling "enabledmods.txt" I was able to find a page that laid out the correct format and now it works.
