AAR
So, I was playing a game where I started out pretty close to Gilden and a Wildlands. I make a habit not to enter wildlands at all until I'm ready for them*, so I can't really tell you what this one is called, but from what i've seen of it, it is crawling with shrills. Since I'm an Empire and still getting the hang of this game, Markinn declares war on me. Pretty much everything is quiet on the front-- I make a little raid to take out an Air Shrine of his and defeat a little army he sent out to take out my raiders. Tan-ta-kreet is still too strongly Ominously missing is Markinn himself.
So I basically decide to leave a garrison on my border with Gilden, and go about taming my backyard and finding another place to found a city. Then, lo and behold, an outrageously strong Markinn and 2 more champions come strutting out of the wildlands completely unscathed and take a city.
SHENANIGANS
Given the geography of the game, the shortest path from Gilden to Umber(me) through the wildllands is 6 tiles, and as I'm looking at it, there are 3 shrill armies in that path, as well as a black widow army, all but one of which would either trash Markinn's group or do significant damage before losing. None of these armies are protecting layers-- all but one should have wanted human for breakfast.
Isn't it reasonable for me to expect that a wilderness so dangerous it is legendary is a reasonable guard of my borders? Isn't it reasonable to expect that Markinn's maneuver is not so much risky as it is dropping the soap?
Anyway, I would greatly appreciate it if, in future betas, monsters would attack computer players. If computer players need to be more cautious, so be it-- but when this happens, it's a little ridiculous. And frustrating.
Almost forgot-- the reason I don't enter wildlands is that if I trigger the quest, save, then quit the game, the quest won't still be active when I reload. If I want to do a wildland, I have to do it in one sitting. I believe this is a bug.
There's something really buggy about AI and creatures.
The dont always attack when you pass. If you look at the sovereigns of the AI, they will very often have 5-6 injuries. That means that they do get into trouble somehow and are not "protected" by monsters
I've also come to the conclusion that the wilderness (not just the Wildlands) seem tamer for the AI than for me.
I agree.
I have witnessed an AI hero go skipping through a wildland as if he was gathering flowers for his poor sick grandma. The most enraging thing is that once he had skipped past the numberless ravening hoards he made a new friend in the guise of a neutral hero and then they both skipped back through the aforementioned ravening hoard to safety!
Now, thankfully I had an army waiting outside so their luck ran out fairly soon after that but the point stands... if a hero goes skipping through a wildlands, la-la-laing and wearing flowers in his hair the one and ONLY thing I want to see coming out of the other side of the nightmarish land of horrors is a solitary spleen.... at high speed.
Although I agree that the AI is getting its heroes killed somehow because generally once they declare war I’m assaulted by armies led by heroes that not only have their own disabled parking badge but probably need to be fed via a tube. I swear that some of the AI’s generals have so many injuries that the only way they could be a threat is by aggressively bleeding all over people, or possibly knocking their enemies unconscious with a coughed up lung.
Either job health and safety procedures are not in place or they have one hell of an equal opportunities plan.
... Despite this it’s still a great game that I’m thoroughly enjoying
debe2233 - Thanks, I needed a good laugh!
LMAO I second that.
